And we have a winner for "Dumbest thing I've read on the internet today"!

Seriously, did you watch Alias? Garner is TERRIBLE AT ACCENTS.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She'll probably be a young, hip Marple who's a Californian and has a boyfriend.

I AM FULLY COMMITTED TO HATING EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS.

The icon says it all

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Agatha Christie will be spinning so hard in her grave it will be likely to cause temporal distortions all across that part of the hemisphere!!

Re: The icon says it all

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The icon is perfect. This is Hollywood at its crapiest! Poor Christie. :(

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's completely missing the point!!! Ugh.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2011-03-29 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not very familiar with Miss Marple and the only Christie book I have read was Poirot, but like... what I don't get is... if it is Hip and Cool bb Marple, what... makes it... different from any other generic Hip And Cool Detective story?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
People recognize the name and so will watch it! Or something. BAH.

[identity profile] raysgal.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
When I heard about the whole Miss Marple thing my mind immediately went to Catherine Tate, but I blame that on Doctor Who.

Anyway, Jennifer Garner is totally wrong for this. It's just wrong period.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
SO WRONG.

Catherine Tate could be awesome...in about 20 years though. :D

Oh ffs. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] chiroho Sherlock is kickass and updating Miss Marple could have been good but not if you change the basic traits of the character! She is, as you say, a little old lady [from England] who knits and solves crimes. This should not be changed!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. It's going to be unrecognizable. Part of the charm of Marple (or any of Christie's detectives) is that they're set in an age before lots of forensics. Her stories are psychological, which really only works if you don't have CSI flying in an solving everything through science.

BLECH. THIS WILL BE SO BAD.

[identity profile] maypanic.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This is obviously an April Fools prank story, accidentally published a few days early. Eddies in the space-time continuum or some such.

A stupid prank, I tell you. NOTHING I EVER HEAR OTHERWISE WILL EVER CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
APRIL FOOLS! YES! THAT'S WHAT THIS IS! LALALALALALALALA.

Of all things good and holy...

If any role was perfect for the older actress THIS IS IT! I've always been in love with her novel And Then There Were None, but I must confess only a passing familiarity with the Miss Marple stories. Still, I must agree that casting Garner is just terrible. I wouldn't mind if it was someone who could actually pull off the accent...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I was never terribly wild about the Marple books (*loves Tommy & Tuppence*), but I've absolutely loved the various adaptations of them. And I want someone old, British and awesome!

[identity profile] nicachick007.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD. Has Disney LOST THEIR MINDS?!?

I would love to have Disney do Agatha Christie films, but only if they did it right. There is no WAY they can make Miss Marple young. And most definitely not Jennifer freaking Garner. I can't really take her seriously as an actress.

This will probably go under my list of "Disney movies I will refuse to ever ever see" along with Mars Needs Moms.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Just...NO. NO NO NO NO NO. WAH.

I hate when they screw over literary canon, but I can't help but to be a little excited for JGar. She is my favorite ever.

SORRY. :(

Indeed.

Let's chalk this up to "One More Thing The Americans Will Butcher!"

Haven't we done enough damage to well-done British material (I'm lookin at you Syfyilius Channel's Being Human)...

I saw this yesterday and couldn't quite believe it. The entire point of Miss Marple is that she's old and uncool and NO ONE SUSPECTS HER OF BEING ABLE TO SOLVE THE CRIME.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. There's so much wrong with this whole thing, I don't know where to start!

MAYBE IN FIFTY YEARS and with fifty years of dialect coachingI WOULD ALLOW IT
