S6

I finally got a look at the DW S6 trailer.

Ooooh! It looks like there could be some fun stuff in S6! My interest level just went from Indifferent to Cautiously Interested. I might even watch that prequel thing that's floating around.

  • Nine-Ten TARDIS interior? HMMMM. Looks like something dire is happening, so maybe the TARDIS is cycling through her screensavers? Because of...drama?

  • Okay, honestly I don't really care about Who River Is. Basically she's had just as much characterization as anyone else in S5, even though they keep trying to tell us that she is a Mystery. I just... I'd call it beating a dead horse, but I'm not sure there was a horse there to begin with. (General wish for River: more competent kick-ass River and less Sweetie Darling River. God, that grates on me when she's in that mode.)

  • Creepiness! I really hope Moffat has gotten his creepiness mojo back. Sorry, but nothing in S5 was even remotely scary.

  • General note to Moffat on S6: please to be not writing the same things over and over, thanks. This includes anything solved because a future character told him/herself to do it (massive, massive, MASSIVE Writing Cheat For Dummies), and re-using villains. Daleks and Cybermen are reluctantly excused. iDaleks are not excused.

Lol EVERYTHING NEEDS MORE DALEKS.

And I am sorta excited by this trailer, ngl.

Although if there is more timey-wimey shenanigans, I WILL HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS. And you know there will be.

MAYBE THEY CAN ROLL AROUND IN THE MUD FIRST.

I'm even interested!

I will be suffering eye strain due to the rolling. I'll also be hurting if there are more recycled plots.

IA. The first time that I really found myself genuinely enjoying River was in The Pandorica Opens when she escaped from prison and left that cheeky lipstick doodle and when she was pretending to be Cleopatra. But everytime she says "spoilers!" or "hello sweetie", it's like nails on a chalk board to me.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there are moments where I'm like "YAY RIVER!" but then there are other moments...

[identity profile] orange-crushed.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I am always amused when somebody pretends to be Cleopatra! But really, I agree with all of this. Sometimes River is amazing, and then suddenly I find myself shrieking A CATCHPHRASE IS NOT CHARACTERIZATION until somebody shoves popcorn in my mouth.

Internal conflict, I have it.

The trailer definitely piqued my interest. Fear me...I have killed many many time lords. Doctor: Fear me, I killed them all.

What prequel do you mean? The CIN mini-episodes? Can you link me?

That's a great line. :D

It's not the CiN episode (thank god), but I don't have a link for it. People were linking it a few days ago, so I might have to go hunting.

Oh don't go to any trouble. I am sure I will stumble upon it.

And just because my pain pills kicked in: ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!!!!!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
XD Go pain pills!

You are my Canadian hero. This is so weird but I don't think I have you friended even though we talk in everyone's LJs. May I friend you?

[identity profile] papilio-luna.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
lololol your icon. That might be my favourite picture from the ~experience~.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It totally was my favorite in Opal's post! XD

[identity profile] orange-crushed.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I just had trouble with the opening line. You know, the one that went: "He alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires; to rise above the height of all your fathers since the days of Elendil, or to fall into darkness, with all that is left of your kin."

I may have gotten that last bit a little confused, but. Yeah. I am Cautiously Something.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's... Yeah.

[identity profile] orange-crushed.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahahaha this was my response exactly when I heard it the first time. I facepalmed a little, like, Oh No. I always have the same reaction to the fire and ice and rage at the heart of Sainsbury's speeches. Please let's not talk about him like this. He has such a big ego already. In his last body he made himself Lord of Everything No Take Backs and made time itself eat a dirt sandwich for a second.

It makes me wish there was a trailer that was like, "The Doctor, he's not really all that impressive" and then he could act super offended about it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why I MUCH prefer companions who keep him humble as opposed to put him on a pedestal. :D

[identity profile] papilio-luna.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
lol I want to frame this comment. Though I am such a sucker for that sort of epic speechifying, so to me that was less caution and more AWESOME. HE'S LIKE FIRE AND ICE AND THAT THING OVER THERE HELL YEAH!

[identity profile] orange-crushed.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
lololol look up.

Okay, I have to admit that those speeches give me a little thrill, too, but mainly they make me go, "oh my God, he can't even drive, remember?" XDDDDD

[identity profile] katesutton.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't want to get my hopes up! But it does look fun, except for the usual part where Moffat continues to overcook the River mystery(really, it's his greatest moment AND darkest hour...because it's the day he finds out WHO SHE IS ZOMG). Also, maybe I am being ridiculous, but Matt's delivery of the killed them all line was kind of too flippant. I cannot believe the Doctor would ever talk about it that way. But! It does look better? I really hope for more than season five gave us.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
really, it's his greatest moment AND darkest hour...because it's the day he finds out WHO SHE IS ZOMG

*snickers* Unless she's Romana in disguise and it all ties back to the Time War... Not so much.

Also, maybe I am being ridiculous, but Matt's delivery of the killed them all line was kind of too flippant. I cannot believe the Doctor would ever talk about it that way.

A bit more context might help. Nine could get flippant when he was covering up things too. Ten, not so much.

[identity profile] katesutton.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I did wonder if the River VO needs more context as well. They always go for the !!!!! with the trailer.

The BBC promo department really does crack me up. (When I'm not fist-shaking.)

[identity profile] miiro.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Until the whole end of s5 for the marriage question at the end, I was thoroughly convinced Moffat was going for the...

RIVER: "Now, sweetie, don't make me spank you because in this form, dear, you're definitely still young enough for me to do it!"
DOCTOR: "Now?"
RIVER: "Don't tempt me, young..."
DOCTOR: "What?! Wait, you mean you didn't mean it... that way...?"
RIVER: gags, chokes, splutters. "NO! Why would you think that?"
DOCTOR: "Well, the whole sweetie thing... wait, wait, wait... my mother always called me... OH BY THE HAIRY BALLS OF RASSILON NO!"
RIVER: "Don't make me wash your mouth out with soap, young man... because I can, and I will if I catch you using that language in front of me again..."
DOCTOR: "Mother?"
RIVER: "NOW YOU FIGURE IT OUT!!"

Or she was a female-Jack... or Romana... but I was cycling through those three. The whole way she acts around him screams less lover/wife and more mother, except in s5 where it started to stray into lover/wife.

But in Silence in the Library, I was swearing up and down like a crazy banshee telling my husband that she's the Doctor's mother, surely...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

[identity profile] typbrunette.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Please no more adults meeting little kids who they later make out with due to timey-wimeyness. It's happened like 3 times now. It skeeves, Moffat, it skeeves.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's not exactly something that makes my Good Ideas list.

Abigail and Kazran from A Christmas Carol maybe?

Oooh yes! Forgot about that! Was mentally searching for a little girl not a little boy XD

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, other than continuing to love Matt Smith ridiculously so this didn't excite me more or less. I'll watch it (see: LOVE MATT SMITH RIDICULOUSLY SO!), but I don't expect it to be any better than series five, and unable to touch Rusty's stuff (for the most part -- Vincent and the Doctor was pure magic).

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hopeful that it'll be more interesting than S5, although I'm pretty resigned to thinking that it'll be forever lacking in any real character depth.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Since Moffat = lacking in any real character depth

Yeah, I'm thinking so.

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
It looked cool! I have so little hopes for things like River's mystery~ finally being revealed, though, no matter what they tell us. THOUGH IT DOES SEEM LIKE MAYBE MOFFAT IS GETTING SOME NEW PLOTS? I like to live in hope. The music was also very razzle dazzling.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? It's encouraging!

[identity profile] maypanic.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
That is really a rather fantastic trailer. My squee factor ramped into high gear! I really liked the way he delivered the "fear me" line so offhand, it's the perfect flavor of bravado covering deeper emotions for Eleven. As you said, very like Nine in underplaying serious matters at times. Very not like Ten, ever. :P

Although, creepy sad clown in lonely hotel room? I'm not even coulrophobic and that gave me the screaming heeby jeebies.

And dude, they're actually recycling costume pieces both from last season and in multiple episodes. Shocking!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The clown thing? *shudders*

And at least they're not using bubble wrap on the monsters. XD

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I want to see a trailer where it's all "This is the Doctor's BRIGHTEST/HAPPIEST/SILLIEST/SOMETHING-NOT-DARKEST hour!" But yes, I think it looks like it could be good.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoy!

I thought I read somewhere that there aren't going to be any Daleks in this season.

Hmmm, people are saying that the prequel seems kinda creepy. I thought it was a bit dull myself.

I'm excited about the title of Neil Gaiman's episode. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering if the title of his episode isn't even referring to the Doctor. They'd pull something like that.

The old TARDIS! Awwwwwww! I wonder if they had set pieces still sitting around or if they CGIed it.
