HP update

Finished The Goblet of Fire.
  • Mrs. Weasley and Bill turned up as Harry's "family"! AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!

  • I couldn't help comparing this one to the movie pretty much constantly because the strange thing is the movie made tons of small changes. It had me scratching my head since it didn't seem like you'd really need to make the changes for plot or location or anything other limits you have when making a movie. Unfortunately, a lot of these small changes (like who said what line) also wound up changing the mythology of the thing. Not all changes did, but enough.

I actually do like the movie - I enjoyed it. But yeah, now I'm scratching my head on the choices made for it.

  • I literally fell asleep when Voldemort was monologuing. XD

Hahahahaha!

I remember walking out of the theatre with a non-book friend, and she was all "Uh, this story was about something besides a dance and a sporting event, right?" and I was all "Uh...yes. Yes it was."

I kind of hate house elves sometimes, but they are SORT OF REQUIRED FOR STUFF LATER, and also BARTY CROUCH.

XD

Man, they really muddled the whole Barty Crouch thing. (Although I still pictured him as David Tennant. XD)

GoF is my favorite of the books and I just feel like the movie cut out some of the little bit that add the charm to the book (like the Weasleys picking up Harry from the Dursleys or the awesomeness of the challenges in the maze).

Also Weasleys = best fictional family ever. :)

I loved that scene! All the Weasleys packed into the fireplace... :D

They really are fun!

I love your icon! It's adorable.

As are the Weasleys.

Say what now? :D

A warning for the next book: I found it a bit whiny and dull, but the end is good. Despite that, it's got very very important story stuff, so please tough it out. The last two books rock.

lol. Yeah. I don't think the movie really ~captured~ CAPSLOCK!HARRY. I mean, I understand WHY Harry is the way he is in OotP, but that doesn't make it less obnoxious.

I finally get to see CAPSLOCK!HARRY! XD

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
So far so good! I'm about 150 pages in and still entertained. :)

[identity profile] typbrunette.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed on that, it was definitely darker and I spent a lot of time wanting to tell Harry to stfu and stop being so whiny. Totally worth it when you get to Book 6, though. And it does have lots of important info.

Wasn't Barty Crouch supposed to be younger? And blonder? :D And good, everyone's warned you about CAPSLOCK!HARRY

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bit fuzzy on the timeline. I know he was supposed to be 19 when he went into Azkaban, but I'm not sure how many years ago that supposedly happened.

And Harry really is PMSing now. XD

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, but he was supposed to be blond from what I remember. :D

Haha, he is at that.

I'm thinking it would've been about 13 or so years before GOF, since most of that stuff, if I recall correctly, is meant to have happened immediately after Voldemort ~fell~ the first time, and that was when Harry was one.

But JKR is not very good with math so her timelines and lots of things related to math don't add up properly, which as you might imagine sent fandom into a tizzy quite frequently.

I had no idea who David Tennant was when I saw GOF back in the day, Having since re-seen a clip of him in it though, lol forever.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. Now that I think about it, I think he was with the group who got Neville's parents, right? So he's with the past generation, but probably on the young end of it.

And I hadn't a clue either - didn't really give him much notice when I saw the film either. And after reading the book, I've no idea why he did that tongue thing in the movie.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-07-26 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah he and the Lestranges got their crazy on together.

I am not sure if the tongue thing would've been him or the director, but it made me laugh in the movie because it was like OH HELLO ANVILICIOUS CLUE. And then at the end of the movie it's like 'SURPRISE!!! Moody is... uh, That Guy! For some reason we never noticed he was out of jail or anything!'

Voldemort may not be THE single biggest Monologue-er who ever did Monologue, but he's definitely a textbook example.

My pet peeve Small Change For No Reason is as follows:

In the book of Sorcerer's Stone, Hagrid bought Fluffy from a Greek chap he met down the pub. This makes sense since Cerberus is a Greek mythological creature and that is what Fluffy is.

In the movie, he says an Irish fellow. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. There is NO REASON for the writers to have changed that. But they did. And it drives me CRAZY.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't notice that - it's been a while since I've seen the movie. But yeah, stuff like that is beyond WEIRD. And annoying.
