About half way through The Half Blood Prince and have a few thoughts.

  • CHEST MONSTER!! XD XD I'm snickering every time it comes up.

  • I've now read the infamous bird scene between Ron and Hermione. They're obviously not the perfect couple at the moment, but I don't think it necessarily dooms them to a life of cop calls for domestic disturbances. (Not that I'm now waving the Ron/Hermione ship flag since I'm still not caring that much about any of the ships.)

  • Thought it was a bit interesting that at first both Harry and Tom thought their respective dads were totally awesome (without actually knowing), but turns out they weren't. They both didn't even seem to consider that their mothers could be powerful. Huh.

  • I now see what people mean when they complain that Ginny went from zero to awesome in 3 seconds, but...I'm really not having a problem attributing it to Harry's POV. Harry often needs to be bashed with the obvious stick before he notices something, which means there's a lot of stuff (especially the more subtle character stuff) that goes missing. It's sometimes a bit frustrating, but... Eh. I'm fine with it for the most part.

  • The Tom Riddle stuff is only mildly interesting to me. I'm way more interested in Harry's parents & co.

  • McGonagall rules all.

Michelle stop being so coolly rational and calm about everything. PART OF ENJOYING HARRY POTTER IS GETTING INTO CAPSLOCK MODE ABOUT HARRY POTTER GOD.

You're just trying to start ship wars now, aren't you?

SHE'S LIKE A SISTER TO HIM, FRANCES.

Now you can descend into crazy. Aren't you glad I'm here for you?

And as a Hufflepuff, I think it's PERFECTLY OK TO ENJOY THE SERIES WITHOUT GETTING ANGRY.

OH, MCGONAGALL! I am SO GLAD Maggie Smith survived the filming process!

Harry is just such a moron that sometimes not ever the obvious stick is enough.

I was thrilled when the birds made it into the movie, because I really did like that scene a lot. I am a fan of casual magic and how Hermione rocks it, and then it was funny!

PFFT YOU ARE NO LONGER COMPATIBLE WITH MY RAVENCLAW

Harry really IS kind of oblivious to a lot of things. There's a pretty specific example in HBP I'm thinking of but will refrain from saying in case it's a spoiler ro something, but yeah, it wasn't ever that hard for me to believe Ginny had been off being awesome for a while while Harry was oblivious.

And I mean, really, the trio are massively cliquey -- there are like, what, 40 kids in each year at Hogwarts, and by sixth year Harry and Co are STILL meeting new people? lirl

Ever since that 10th Doctor: the Musical! vid, all I can think of when I hear this song is Martha Jones.

She really did it perfectly, I think. :D

True.

I was thrilled when the birds made it into the movie, because I really did like that scene a lot. I am a fan of casual magic and how Hermione rocks it, and then it was funny!

Was it in there? I really need to watch that movie again. I swear it took me forever to remember if I'd actually watched it or not, but too much is familiar in the book for me not to have seen it. I don't really remember much about it though.

See I love book six for all the crack assed Riddle backstory...

or maybe that's because we took turns reading the book aloud at four am while we were buzzed on alcohol?

I DON'T CARE I LOVE THIS BOOK.

Also? Hardcore Ron/Hermione shipper here. ;)

There had been mentions of it before, and I probably only noticed because I was looking for it. Like Fred or George saying something like "holy crap, Ginny can do awesome things!" a couple of books back.

And I mean, really, the trio are massively cliquey -- there are like, what, 40 kids in each year at Hogwarts, and by sixth year Harry and Co are STILL meeting new people? lirl

YES! I swear there was someone in Gryffindor even that Harry was like "who the hell??" XD

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAHAHAHAHA! Now that's how to read HP! XD

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-07-28 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed it more on the re-read I did before DH, because by that point I was looking for it too -- or, well, maybe not consciously looking for it, but more likely to notice, just like I noticed the Department of Mysteries mention and the Lovegoods in GOF etc. There's just a lot that happens off screen that Harry isn't privvy to, I think.

LOL YES. like Romilda Vane. And I don't think I could even name any Ravenclaws in Harry's year. um... terry boot? Maybe?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That is one advantage in knowing all these spoilers before reading the books - things are jumping out at me that I'm sure I would have skimmed over otherwise.

And is that Ernie kid a Ravenclaw? But yeah. There are only 20 boys in Harry's year. You'd think a name or two would stick. XD

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
NO. NO. NONE OF THAT HERE.
