Okay, what is up with Vinylmation? It looks cheap and weird but yet it seems like they're pushing it even more than pins.

CREEPY. DO NOT WANT.

But awwww. All the Halloween decorations will be up by this weekend. I think I might love their pumpkin decorations even more than their Christmas decorations. Well, except that giant Christmas tree > giant Mickey pumpkin.

I WILL EAT YOUR CHILDREN.

But hee! Jack-o-lantern lanterns!

RANDOM NON-HALLOWEEN HIPPO.

What the hell is that thing in the top pic?!!?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Vinylmation. Beyond that I have NO idea.

JESUS WHAT THE HELL

I miss Disney. World, anyway. We used to go there every other year or so when I was a kid but I haven't been since 2003.

JESUS WHAT THE HELL

Disney's latest answer to "collectibles."

I miss Disney. World, anyway. We used to go there every other year or so when I was a kid but I haven't been since 2003.

Awww yeah. I had an annual pass to the Cali parks for a few years and finally gave it up last year.

Disney's latest answer to "collectibles."

WERE THE PINS NOT ENOUGH? At least those aren't creepy. (lol. Also, my aunts and cousins obsessive collect and trade pins. It's kind of funny.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I never got into the pins, thank God. XD

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-09-13 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The best ...collectible... souvenir type thing is clearly the pressed coins.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
lol. I had a friend in high school who collected pressed pennies and when we went to Disneyland together, we'd run around the park, so that she could get all the different designs she wanted. It was pretty fun, actually. Plus, they're cheap!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-09-13 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a collection somewhere. They were cheap enough that my parents did not mind buying them, lol. I remember saving up shiny pennies.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
VINYLMATION SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF ME. ALSO, THEY ARE STUPID.

AND THEY'RE EVERYWHERE. Ugh. They were even all over Downtown Disney. HATE.

I hate the ones that are blank. Things without faces are scary. See also: Idiot's Lantern, The.

GAH.

Also, you can always post here to talk about Disneyland! I love Disneyland and I miss it! D: But I suppose that's what I get for going overseas to do my master's degree. Also having an annual pass got way too expensive.

I have ~mixed feelings about Halloweentime. Idk. I just prefer Disneyland at Christmas. It's very nostalgic for me and makes me think of happy times hanging out there with my bff in high school. Halloweentime is too new (I think it started my freshman year of college) to have those happy associations for me.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
See? Faceless things are NOT OK.

Also, there are ones where the eyes are off kilter so that the painting will match the character it is modeled after, but that doesn't jive with the Mickey that it is being painted on, so it just looks weird. (see Buzz in the picture below)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-09-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The Toy Story ones are less terrifying than the Tinkerbell one though. GOD WHY IS HER MOUTH IN HER CROTCH? WHO THOUGHT THAT UP

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No. No. Nonononono.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! The blank ones are like...WHY??

I miss it too (haven't been back since last year when I got vertigo), but I still lurk on blogs and forums. :D

I do love Christmastime as well. It's just so happy! But the last time I was there the decorations were starting to look pretty worn, which is part of why I like the Halloween decorations better.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Vinylmation are modeled after Asian vinyl toys, although as someone who likes and mildly collects such toys, they're doing it wrong. I wasn't impressed with the ones I saw at Downtown Disney last year.

A good US purveyor of this type of toy is KidRobot.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Bleh. I know that Disney is one big money-making machine, but this feels too much like "give us your money for crap, please." And it's not even cute crap.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They definitely seem to have been designed by someone who was shown some examples of Asian vinyl and told to design stuff in line with them, but the designs are uninspired, and the excessive specificity of the shapes means that the figures end up looking bizarre.

I've seen cute Disney Asian vinyl toys - designed and executed by Asian companies. They need to go back to Kubrick (et al.) and let them do their own thing and sell them in the States.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Disney give up control? Nevar!

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The lips...the lips should not be there on that Vinylmation...thing. They just should not.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe this comes from their Adult line?

Before I read the comment thread, I was assuming it was a sex toy.

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are Tinkerbell's eyes below her arms? And what is her mouth doing below the waist? That is just wrong on so many levels...

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's FREAKY and SCARY!

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Darn right!

WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY IS THAT FIRST THING OH MY GOD I WANT TO SLEEP TONIGHT.

Disney will eat your soul.

[identity profile] leighleighla.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a face.

On a micky-shaped doll's ass.

What?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It's artsy! Apparently.

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. That's...ugly. I used to collect pins back before they had the huge pin thing and they were actually hard to find and worth collecting. I stopped getting Disney pins when they made it a big deal, though. The pushiness of it was annoying. These new collectibles look kind of disgustingly warped.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, to me collectibles are...not mass produced and marketed as collectibles. Reminds me of the Beanie Baby fad.

Plus the ugly. :D

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, I started to type, "I don't understand and I don't like that top picture," when suddenly part of the "Kill the Beast" song from Beauty and the Beast popped into my head. Consequently, "I don't like what I don't understand because it scares me!" is my response. What on earth is going on with that thing??? (My Robin Hood icon is going to protect me).

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think in this case it's a perfectly acceptable reaction. XD

[identity profile] nicachick007.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, what is up with Vinylmation? It looks cheap and weird but yet it seems like they're pushing it even more than pins.

That is also what I thought when they first came out too... and some of them, especially the one you picked to post, are creepy and cheap and weird. But then some of them are kind of totally awesome. I don't think I would have ever started buying them if they hadn't made a  Jungle Cruise one. But the thing about them is that they're so fun to buy. If a little on the expensive side for being little pieces of Mickey shaped... vinyl, I guess. But they really are fun to collect because they come in sealed packages and you have no idea which one you're picking or are going to get. You can choose from which set you want, so you know you could get one of like 14 or whatever, but YOU DON'T KNOW! So it's an adventurous surprise when you open it! Sometimes you're happy, sometimes you're disappointed. Sometimes you end up with duplicates or triplicates and that's when I knew that this was going to turn into a trading thing. But I stopped buying them when I miraculously managed to find a Jungle Cruise one. Total count at this time: 8. UNFORTUNATELY, a whole bunch of new sets have just been revealed that look kinda awesome, like a Nerd set and a Star Wars set and a Disney Afternoon set, as well as a 9" one that is the original Jungle Cruise attraction poster SOOOOO I'll probably be buying a few more. Blast. You can look here to see all the cool new ones coming out. And yes. Some of them are creepy and weird.

And yay for Halloween! I'm really excited, my family just planned a trip for the first weekend of October, and we've never done Disneyland at Halloween! Hooray! So excited.

Sorry for the longness. :S

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, the Jungle Cruise one is still a bit strange. :D

I did see one in the shape of a honey bear that was cute, but... XD

Ooh! I know you'll love all the Halloween stuff! Check out all the jack-o-lanterns along Main Street! Tons of pumpkins everywhere!

[identity profile] nicachick007.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, well, I couldn't help it. I pretty much need to own every piece of Jungle Cruise merchandise ever. Except I'm really upset that I won't be able to have  THIS. Because it's not coming out until like two weeks after I get there. Plus it's like 200 bucks. :C Sadness.

But unfortunately, I'm addicted to the Vinylmations, dammit.

I will! I did Halloween at Disney World last year when I was doing my College Program, but I'm very excited to do the things that are different, like Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Holiday! As well as the Halloween Screams fireworks. YAY!

That is the creepiest Tinkerbell.... thing..... EVER.

I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN WORLD OF COLOR. AND I HAVE AN ANNUAL PASS. WHAT IS MY EXCUSE??

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I DON'T KNOW! I've seen some videos of it and it looks amazing!
