The Lodger
BWAH! That pretty much sums it up. XD
This episode was fun and light. Originally it was a Ten comic where he crashed with Mickey, which was Mickey's personal hell. (Mickey, PLEASE tell me that you and Martha bitch about the Doctor a lot. XD) It could have been hilarious if Eleven bunked with Rory, but this guy was cute. (Craig, was it?)
There's nothing really deep to say about this episode, but I do have a few questions.

- THE DOCTOR CAN FRICKIN TALK TO CATS??
- THE DOCTOR CAN HEADBUTT HIS MEMORIES INTO PEOPLE??
- SOMEONE'S BEEN BUILDING A TARDIS?? DO WE GET TO KNOW WHO??
- NO REALLY. THE DOCTOR CAN FRICKIN TALK TO CATS??

THE DOCTOR IS A MAN OF MANY TALENTS, MICHELLE.

Hmmm. Maybe the cat in Fear Her was taunting him. :D

There were some cute moments, but overall I found it disappointing. I know I'm in the minority on that, but I'm in the minority on a lot of things (not in Who fandom specifically but in general *g*) so it doesn't bug me. *grin*

It's just...I'm not one of those people who'll say RTD did nothing right. He did, after all, create several characters whom I still love beyond all reasoning (and some I don't, but that's true of any writer) and there were more than a few episodes he wrote that I *did* in fact enjoy very much. :-) (And one or two Moff eps that I hate to this day. *coughGirlintheFireplacecough*) But I think things got so dark and depressing (IMO) towards the end of his run that I really *needed* the lighter touch; the more fairy-tale-like vision of the universe; the more well-adjusted Doctor. Does that make sense? :-)

(Although so far I'm finding S5 at the other extreme and I'm having a hard time really getting into any of the characters.)

I can't even say if it required more inference than RTD's characters because it just felt *that* clear to me. And nothing that happened over the rest of the season really upset that conclusion, so I'm assuming that means I got it right. ;-)
I *did* feel the characterization in the Christmas special wasn't what it could've been, but I don't want to say more than that for fear of spoiling. *g* But then I've always been a bit off on the Specials anyway: I LIKED Voyage of the Damned.

IS THAT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HE CONCENTRATES REALLY HARD ON NOT GROWING A BEARD?
Time Lord evolution clearly took care of the important issues.

And besides all the excellent one liners, there were two screencaps of when he head-butted with Craig you might be interested in:

"These, these are your keys."
"I can stay?!"
"Yeah, you're weird and you can cook. That's good enough for me. Right. Outdoor, front door, your door."
"My door. My place! My gafe! Haha! Me with a key!"
"And listen, Mark and I, we have an arrangement where if you ever need me out of your hair, just give me a shout. 'Kay?"
"Why would I want that?"
"In case you want to bring someone round, a girlfriend or a… boyfriend…"
"Oh, I will. I'll shout if that happens. Yes. Something like, 'I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS!' By the way, that - the rot. I've got the strangest feeling we shouldn't touch it."
This entire episode. Gah. I adore it.
The whole "Doctor tries to act human" thing is simply inspired, because the more I watched the episode, the more I realized, it's not so much that Eleven doesn't know how humans really act; it's that he kind of just doesn't really care. He's so wonderfully oblivious and flippant and meddling and I just adore him! The entire episode was comedy gold, along with a few touching character moments. And Eleven conversed with a cat. And told a customer to hold because he had to eat a biscuit. ♥

And I thought the whole key thing was fun! For once the Doctor gets keys to somewhere instead of handing them out!

LOL. WHATEVER WHATEVER. IT'S HILARIOUS. It's the first episode where I was really fond of Eleven.

With this episode I was just growing more fond of Eleven every second, and I really needed an episode like that.

I just went to check and see if the writer was a one-off, but he's actually written several DW eps and a lot of SJA eps, so I don't even know where the above came from.
I wasn't sure about this episode on the first airing, but on reflection I like it quite a lot, despite (or maybe because of) the major ridiculousness of it.
