That unpopular opinions thing...
Well, this is supposed to be one of those "unpopular opinions" in fandom thing, although some of these probably aren't all that unpopular. I just needed to get up to ten things. *g*
Crap. Was catching up with emails and forgot to eat dinner. :( Wonder what's in the house...
ETA - Apparently some S7 spoilers for Space Race are being discussed in the comments. Granted, they're *twisted* spoilers for Space Race, but there you have it.
Holy crap! It's midnight? How'd that happen? Need sleep.
- I just can't get excited about AUs. *So* not interested the characters' "other" selves. What if this woman was a man? What if so and so had gotten married way back when? No interest. Now this is a hard thing to pinpoint because *all* fanfic is AU in that it's not canon. It's a bit easier to define in the Stargate fandom because AU characters are canon. Confused yet? Yeah. Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I just don't care about Dr. Carter or General O'Neill.
- Can't stand one show being compared to another. Occasionally it's applicable, but it's ever so irking to me when it's said that Show X should/shouldn't do this or that just because Show Y did/didn't do this or that and it sucked/rocked.
- Daniel Jackson of Stargate SG-1 is an actual man. 'nough said.
- Futurama is better than the Simpsons. I've finally come to this realization. More insane, silly and clever. And it has a huge heart - something that the Simpsons hasn't had since the earlier seasons. Futurama's even prettier. Of course, I continue to love the Simpsons and still think that even in its 15th year it's one of the funniest things on TV.
- Seen it on other people's lists, but it really can't be said enough. Using feedback as a threat is BAD. "If you don't send me feedback, I won't write more!" or "Feedback makes me write this WIP faster!" I just get twitchy. Feedback isn't a right - it's a privilege.
- Fandom "meow-booms" are hysterical. They really, really are. It's get out the popcorn time and you'll never convince me otherwise. (Probably because I could give a rat's ass about the "health" of any fandom.) Two or more sides butting heads for whatever reason - everyone spinning their wheels, panties bunching up and *no one* listening to the other side because their side is RIGHT, DAMMIT! Why should they listen to or even tolerate anyone else if they're on the side of right?! It's never a discussion - it's always about proving a point. And whoever's the loudest wins that day. It's a geek-style cage match! Of course, I'm not talking about the hard-core stuff, which isn't funny but sick and sad. That some people would actually think of attacking a person (whether in real life or even flaming) is frickin' insane. Seriously. If someone's doing that, it's time to get a new hobby. And probably a padded cell.
- You don't have to be a fanfic reader to be a writer. I refuse to believe I'm the only one in the world like this. ;)
- Music vids are HARD. They take hours, days...sometimes even weeks to do. Demands or even begging that a "perfect" song be made into a vid makes me want to never ever listen to the song. Recommending a song is groovy, but don't have any expectations.
- If fandom isn't fun, why be in it? If a show isn't entertaining, why watch it? A show owes nothing to me and I owe nothing to it. There really are better things to do with my time than to watch a show I don't like, even if I at one time loved it. I have no desire to "stick it out" when it comes to television. If I don't like it, I'm gone. I've done it many times before and I'll do it again.
- Always feedback feedback. Someone took the time to send feedback. Doesn't matter if the entire message is "Cool fic!" or if it's a twenty-page essay on your story - at the very least say "thanks." Like I said above, feedback isn't a right, but a privilege.
