Went to Disneyland on Saturday.

Finally went on the Tower of Terror. Okay, whoever designed that was sadistic! HA! I thought it'd be a straight up and down thing, but there were a lot of false starts and stops and we went up twice. I have to admit a moment of LET ME OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW when the elevator car pulled back from the entry bay, probably because there was nothing to hang onto.

Let me say right now that I will *not* admit having grabbed the guy next to me's leg as we dropped. Nope. Not at all. Okay, maybe. Okay, yes. Yes, I grabbed a complete stranger's leg in a Disneyland ride. I will probably now be sued.

Moving on...

I had never been on the holiday version of the Haunted Mansion before. I *loved* the holiday overlay of the ride. Loved, loved, loved. They went all out with the decorations and the music! WOW! The best new part was the stretching elevator room. This is *very* cool and actually slightly creepy. From the shattering stained glass to the child singing an off-tune Christmas carol...ooooo. I pretty much went through the place with a big, stupid grin on my face. I ended up buying the CD just for the audio ride-through of this. Heh. Of course, I adore The Nightmare Before Christmas so that probably helped.

Quite a few rides were down for maintenance, so I ended up doing a lot of people watching. It was really relaxing – getting a cup of coffee and sitting by the river, watching the crowds go by. It's nice having an annual pass – I don't feel like I have to go from ride to ride to ride. It also lets me leave whenever I get tired of it instead of staying until closing to get my money's worth.

I love going here. It's where I can decompress and completely relax. Some people have a park or a certain spot on the beach or a tree they go read under. My spot just happens to be littered with mouse ears. (EW!) I love taking people to "my spot." I'm sure it will never having the same meaning for others. I have a lot of memories with this place – my very first was of being terrified to go on Adventure Through Inner Space because I thought it would actually shrink me. Heh heh. But that's probably what keeps me going back – it's a world that exists somewhat outside of reality where fantastical things are the norm. And occasionally we all need an escape.
