Right. See you all next week! Stay out of trouble, and all that.

ETA: I have an external battery I can plug into the portable DVD player to give it extra life and just noticed the tag on the cord. "WARNING! Connect only with correct polarity." Of course, now *all* I want to do is to REVERSE THE POLARITY.

But before I go, I'm posting a DVD commentary of my Inertia fic. Hey - this thing consumed my life for the last three months so I'm allowed!

Intertia Commentary

Chapter 1 - For the life of me I could *not* think of something cheesy that the Doctor could say that had been "brilliant." Or his version of brilliant. [livejournal.com profile] elismor came up with the line. Martha was originally this Aeryn Sun-type chick, but then they announced that she was going to be a med student. And suddenly Martha is a soldier *and* a med student. Heh heh. imadork.

Chapter 2 – Bleh. More exposition. Originally I had a lot more in here about Rose going out to the pub with Mickey and Jake and happy to have two guys with her so she wouldn't get hit on. But it sidetracked and was relatively pointless, since I think you get where she is in her life without all that. Introduction of the slugs. The damn slugs. And now they won't be mentioned again until 50 pages down the road. Mwah. Also, the looking at her as if she was alien was my dorky attempt at foreshadowing.

Chapter 3 – Aww, Doctor. Choosing which books and DVDs Rose should have in her house in his mind. To me something like this is more touching than if he was sobbing in the corner of the TARDIS. But he desperately wants her to be content and happy, a sentiment that Rose echoes for him about 40 pages later. Plus the Mickey the dog joke, which shows up again right at the end of the fic. Martha is sarcastic, which I was more than pleased to make her. Pretty much everyone in the story is sarcastic at one point or another. Heh. The reveal of New Earth – wonder if anyone thought he wound up at Torchwood for a moment.

Chapter 4 – I had fun twisting some actual lines from the show in here. Ah, the AU Doctor - I'd written most of this scene before really understanding that Time Lords existed outside of dimensions and so there couldn't be an AU Doctor. However, I did figure out a way, and a way that would get you to the Ninth Doctor. But you don't find out what that is for about 50 pages. But in understanding that there couldn't be AU Time Lords, I decided you couldn't have AU Daleks. Daleks *could* show up in AUs, but wouldn't be in the same places or the same Daleks. So the Emperor couldn't have been hiding out at the game station in the AU since there's only one Emperor. Scene that got cut:
Yeah, careless. Right. Rose suddenly thought of the game station. "Doctor!" she said urgently. "There are Daleks hiding in the year 200,100!"

    "Right. Got 'em."

    Rose frowned. "Seriously? How?"

"Got hijacked by a game station. When I figured out what was going on, I hopped in the TARDIS, took her for a spin in the time vortex while I made a Delta Wave, and hopped back about thirty seconds after I left. Bye bye Daleks."

"Oh. Yeah. That would have been a good way to go."

"What, isn't that how he did it?"

    "It was...similar."
Chapter 5 – Never really cared for the dialog in this scene. But I just couldn't think of anything better. The only point to the scene was to get down into the cave and sparkling dialog is hard with a semiconscious dude in a tank.

Chapter 6 – Poor AU!Doctor. My intent here was *not* to say that the Doctor would be this poor, miserable creature if he never had Rose in his life. But rather, I wanted Rose to start seeing that there were differences between the Doctors since she's got a wicked problem with AUs. Ah, the superphone - needed Rose to use it since it becomes key later on. Also in here I wanted to show that it wasn't just the Doctor that she loved, but also that whole life. Traveling on the TARDIS had really become her way of living and she was ecstatic to get back to it. Heh - laser blasting the tribbles.

Chapter 7 – One of the heavier chapters. Ten relives the Time War. *pets* Plus the couple of discoveries about Rose. This whole fic really came out of many different episodes. This scene obviously from The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. One of the last lines in that episode is the Doctor describing himself and Rose as "the stuff of legends." That combined with the supposed "legend" involving the Face of Boe in New Earth made my brain start ticking madly. Way back in the plotting stage of the fic, I originally was thinking that the writing and the legend would simply be about Rose and Bad Wolf. Period. But then after thinking a while, it seemed like I'd be falling for that newbie trap of cutting out the past. So I switched the legend to be about the Doctor's life, and I think it works a lot better and makes it more poinent. You know, it *always* bugged the shit out of me that the Beast in "The Satan Pit" gave a prophecy of Rose's death because...it doesn't work! Bah. So I threw in a mention of how the Beast could have said that.

Chapter 8 – Very briefly skirted a line between AU!Doctor and Rose in here. Briefly. I just wanted to show that Rose would naturally click with the Doctor and that it probably would be easy to slip into that life with him. But I never had any intention of going down that path with them because one of my pet peeves is AU-replaceable-character syndrome (i.e., Jackie getting together with AU!Pete in Doomsday.) BAH. And that's why the chapter ends with Rose hauling out all the things about *her* Doctor and that this one wasn't the same.

Chapter 9 – Yup. I did it. I did the old "Rose will regenerate" thing. You can shoot me now! :D You know, my original thought process behind this wasn't that I thought Rose should be this higher being. Quite frankly, I could care less about her having super powers or whatever the hell Time Lords have. I may *never* regenerate her in the sequel(s). Much of this stems from my own "external force" trauma from Doomsday. If the Doctor and Rose ever do separate, then I want it to be their (or internal) decision, rather than that pesky death thing. Heh heh. And this is Michelle-world, after all. Maybe in a couple of centuries they'll take a 50-year break from each other. ;) But in doing the tired old regeneration thing, I was able to stir up some issues for this and maybe future fic(s). One being that most consequences of the Doctor's actions, he just flies away from. This one he'll have to live with. Another being Jackie's reaction to this all, which I'm semi-plotting already. Oh, and a bit of backstory on Martha here.

Chapter 10 – Ah, the drinking scene. Nothing like putting one cliché right on top of another. Honestly, I needed to hit the fast forward button on getting the AU!Doctor and Rose to talk about deeper things. Plus, Rose mocks Doomsday canon in her drunken state. *is smug* And I threw in the reason why Torchwood exists in the AU. Can't believe I'm filling in their plot holes. But back to the drinking – Rose really sticks her foot in it here. Love Rose, and that includes her faults. She's still very young and prone to doing stupid things.

Chapter 11 – Pretty much a filler scene. I needed to show some sort of spinning of wheels, otherwise the Doctor would have found the sphere way too easily. Puka shell lady is [livejournal.com profile] elismor, by the way.

Chapter 12 – Heh. Watch Rose backpedal. Plus she talks about what was shown before – that she loves this life. Even if she can't have the Doctor, she still wants to be there. But had the Doctor bring up the "running away" thing so that I could eventually get Rose to a place where she' thinking about how her mum's been seeing this the last couple of years. Yeah, she's young, but she's smart enough to figure out that maybe her constantly running off has been hard for her mum. With a push first, that is.

Chapter 13 – JACK! There's nothing like a gay(omni) man scorned. In this scene I brought up a couple of points that have made me twitch. One – the whole thing about having to "need" the Doctor to be around him. Very popular fandom concept. It's nice and all until you think about it – what an utterly craptacular life for the Doctor if all he does is fix people and then they're out of there. And two – the Doctor's knee-jerk defense mechanism of "Don't get near me! You'll die!" but at the same time wandering around being "Woe, lonely me." You know, the two concepts *really* don't go together. Hence the Jack line of "You wanna be the lone wolf? Fine. But you don't get to use the choice as an excuse." Heh heh. WOLF. Poor lone wolf needs his Bad Wolf. *pets* This is also part of the reason for the Rose regeneration thing – to put a stop to this one aspect of hurt. The Doctor's gone through enough trauma in his life, that the least I wanted to do was let him have someone he loved that loved him right back who wouldn't disappear after a few years...or even 20. And you already know that Rose would love nothing better than to spend forever with him. Although I do think her concept of "forever" is pretty limited, being human and young and all. But I still think the sentiment is genuine.

Chapter 14 – Couldn't figure out an actual plot for Rose and AU Doctor to do, so I sent them to a party. It's beginning to ramp up towards the resolution, so I'm picking up with the Jackie thing. Also, AU!Doctor alludes to his kid(s). Awww.

Chapter 15 – I probably cackled for a good five minutes visualizing Ten singing "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." Yeah, the Doctor did get the sphere back pretty easily, but I didn't want to drag it out unnecessarily. The ginger cat is also Elis'. The Doctor is starting to get back to his old self here, before this whole legend thing started, since he's getting close to getting back to Rose. More flippant. More sarcastic jokes.

Chapter 16 – Okay, I loved having Rose calling the Doctor a dork in her mind. Because really, he is dork of all dorks. Both Nine and Ten. And echoing Ten earlier, poor Rose really does want him to be happy, no matter what. At this point, I think she'd even be thrilled if he went back to Reinette. Bit different from the Doctor thinking of her in more selfish ways earlier. But then the point was that his selfishness was what led to the Rose regeneration mess.

Chapter 17 – Wild, cracktastic explanation of what the sphere *and* the void ship from Doomsday is/was. I was pretty pleased with it because in my mind, it works. The Doctor's very much back to his normal self in this scene, because he's finally got a way to cross over. A brief mention of *why* there's an AU Doctor. The concept makes sense to me. :D Also, I snickered at the idea that the Doctor would be pretty cranky and very snarky about having to call Rose instead of having this wonderful, romantic reunion. Any time I can take something potentially "romance novel" and turn it on its head while still keeping it shippy, I'll do it.

Chapter 18 – Bwah! The messages. Doctor, Doctor. He really *is* the dork of all dorks. And aww. The reunion. *pets them* In my mind, when Rose still keeps a hand clutching his coat, the Doctor's also still hanging onto Rose in some way. But I just couldn't write that in any way that didn't sound cheesy. I'm thinking for the first sequel, there needs to be some aspect of post-separation trauma for a while, probably in the form of always needing to be around each other or something. Of course, how would that be any different from before...HA! But I'm still batting that all around.

Chapter 19 – Finally, the goddamn slugs. I spent way too much time thinking about their chemical composition and what would kill them. Finally, I made something up. But this was the very last thing I wrote in this fic and by this point I wanted the whole thing to be DONE. So it's probably way too short and somewhat of a slug letdown. Ah well. Here the Doctor is thinking more about the AU situation and the AU!Doctor's on the same page. Because they really were the same person. None of this AU crap! I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a little Doctor jealousy, even if it was very wee. During S2, you never really saw the jealousy come up like in S1 – the Doctor was too sure of himself and *knew* how Rose felt about him. However, the Doctor would probably find *himself* to be a bit of competition. *snickers* Also wanted the Doctor to reconnect, however briefly, with Mickey and Jake.

Chapter 20 – Ganging up on Rose over the "lower" companion status. I wanted her to get to a place where she'd be more accepting of Martha. Poor AU!Doctor really *was* Rose's walking therapy session. *pets* And yeah, AU!Doctor did leave all alone. I was going for an echo of the theme introduced with Jack, that to be alone or not be alone is really a choice of the Doctor's. AU!Doctor's been cutting himself off. Probably not intentionally, but aside from Rose, he's made no active choice to have people in his life for a while. And this is sharply contrasted with the 542 people our Doctor winds up with at the end of this fic. :D

Chapter 21 – The Doctor and Rose go into full-blown cute mode. The blue suit – the whole point really was to mock the suit after the promo shots came up, because the blue does *not* look good. But after it was mentioned in my journal (and I looked it up) that blue could equal mourning, I threw that in. That was before I heard some people were being...weird about it. *eyes*

Chapter 22 – Even though the Doctor and Rose are now together, I'm still flopping POVs, depending on who I think needs to be telling the story at that point in time. Obviously, you really needed to see Rose's reaction to getting the news. I think she'd be pretty much creeped out by it. But through the last part of S2 she was *so* focused on the Doctor not being lonely and having someone with him, that I could see her quickly moving past the creepy to thinking that this is the answer to that problem. Plus, you know, she loves him.

Chapter 23 – And the Doctor fairly quickly starts cracking jokes. He's never really been one that can stay in some sort of personal issues state for very long. He'll deal with them, reluctantly, if he has to. But he'd much rather spend his time having fun. And with Rose back and that whole situation more-or-less "fine," he's free to get back to his ADD 5-year-old self. ;)

Chapter 24 – When Rose left this time, I wanted a good talk with Jackie since Rose has often treated her like crap. I wanted this departure to be a lot healthier. Not perfect, of course. Hate perfection. Also, Rose is somewhat repressing the whole regeneration thing, which was intentional. One of those doors left open for future fics. The Doctor gets to be cute in a couple of ways – babbling to Rose in her room and freaking the hell out over visiting once a month. *pets*

Chapter 25 – Fully in humor mode now. Elevator scene. Heh. The Doctor is wholely unsettled in AUs and won't feel fine until he gets Rose back to the right universe and the TARDIS. And so he attacks the elevator. *snickers* First line I ever wrote on this thing is in here, before I really had a plot even: Bloody. Hell. His TARDIS was not a love shack for the dimensionally dispossessed. And then it ends with EVERYONE going back to the TARDIS. HA! But the most important thing is that Rose is back, dammit!

Take that, Doomsday!
