PTB's Guide to Fandom

nandamai, I'm prepared to offer a Fandom 101 course to all PTB everywhere.
Fandom Rule #1: 99.98% of your show's fandom will be insane. Keep this in mind if you actually do cons.
Fandom Rule #2: Every last character, and in some cases inanimate objects, will be having sex according to fandom. Familial relationships will not stop them. If your characters have any sort of genitalia...or mere holes...fandom will write porn. Ignore it all.
Fandom Rule #3: Wars will break out in your fandom that you will not be able to comprehend. See Fandom Rule #1.
Fandom Rule #4: Any statement you make concerning the show will cause massive outrage, no matter the subject. Be prepared for letters on "I hated your use of the word 'is' when you said 'Actor A is a nice guy!' What about 'was'?! You're totally saying he was an asshole in the past!!!"
Fandom Rule #5: If you're planning any drastic changes to the show, don't hint about it before the fact via interviews/blogs/etc., as it will push your fandom's insanity level from 99.98% to 99.99%. And that's the danger zone right there.
Fandom Rule #6: Burn all fanmail the second you receive it. See Fandom Rule #1 and Fandom Rule #2.
Fandom Rule #7: And finally, stay a thousand feet away from the internet at all times. Thar be dragons. Engaging with fans on forums, blogs, etc. will only end badly. Do not be lured into thinking that you alone will be the exception to this rule. YOU WILL NOT BE.
