Countdown to Christmas: 4
Last time on Doctor Who...
The Doctor lost Rose.
And then he un-lost Rose.
And then he was completely hot.
Rose agreed.
And now, The Parting of the Ways...
I'm not really a CE or DT fangirl, but sometimes they do things that are very "RAWR!" This is one of those times. RAWR.
The Doctor zooms over without a word and pulls Rose into a hug.
Just AWWWWWWWWWW! To me this little scene showed just how much he cares about her.
Once he's hugged it out, then he can go back to pretending everything's a lark.
Awwwww. Rose and Jack hug.
Doctor: 'sup, bitches?
Oh, Doctor. He's barely keeping it together. You know, this is exactly why he needs people around. Could you imagine him facing this on his own? It would have looked very differently.
Rose: YO. MY TIME LORD. GET YOUR OWN.
Oh, Jack. Never stop being you. XD
Jack: So, threesome before we do this?
Rose: Seriously? Erm...well...
Doctor: There's not a chance in hell. Off you go then!
Rose: *is naturally awesome*
Doctor: *is still seeing hearts and ponies around her*
Betrayal in 5, 4, 3, 2...
1.
Rose does not approve.
This scene gets me way more than even his regeneration scene. Telling her to have a fantastic life for him makes me sniff.
Rose gets ripped a lot for this scene - that she's being selfish and needed to think of her family and just GO HOME. That meta makes me blink a LOT. Show me a person who has refused the perfect job offer across the country, just so that they could stay with mom and dad (barring health issues), and I'll show you a person who's not very well adjusted.
There seemed to be a thought that in order for Rose to grow up, she needed to go back to Jackie. And...that's such a huge disconnect from life, reality, and everything, I don't even know where to begin.
Universe: GET IT?
Rose: Oh hey!
I love that Mickey and Jackie are the ones who ultimately help (and convince) Rose she needs to go back. Yeah, they want Rose to come back and have a normal, safe life, but ultimately they realize that's just not her. And they do what family is supposed to do - support each other.
And the Doctor can't kill everything again. There are times that I can't quite get my head around this and the somewhat similar attitude in "Journey's End." Yes, the Doctor is ANTI GENOCIDE. And that's very very good. But...when faced with the inevitable results of inaction (barring any deus ex machina), it doesn't make a lot of sense. Other than the Doctor is really messed up when it comes to this.
In the end, it seems a very selfish act. The Doctor doesn't want the responsibility on his shoulders and so chooses death to avoid it. If there hadn't been that little deus ex machina, the Daleks would have wiped out the universe. So...I have a hard time getting my head around the Doctor's thought process. Like I said above, I guess he's just really messed up.
DEUS EX TARDIS. :D
Rose: *GLOWS AND FLOATS*
Doctor: OMG, YOU CAN DO THAT? Hmmm. Must remember that for myself...
"I want you safe, my Doctor." This is something I could probably write a giant meta on. *pets them both*
Ruh roh, Raggy. It seems many times in New Who there's a cost for doing something. Here the cost for saving the Doctor is to doom Jack.
"I think you need a doctor." HEE HEE! That's so cheesy and perfectly the Doctor. XD
*sighs* That kiss. I've heard it said that that kiss was about the Doctor letting go of the Time War. Although over the years we find out that the Time War hasn't let go of him. Maybe it'd have been different if he'd been able to hang on to Rose, but...
Awwww! So tender!
So typical of the Doctor. Something's wrong and he's telling jokes.
I love his parting "you were fantastic and so was I" line. :) :)
*KERSPLODE*
Hello! I still remember thinking he looked so terribly goofy and was really hoping he'd be decent at it. :D
