Question on Sherlock fic. Who the hell is Bill Murray? Other than the guy in Caddyshack. Lots of fics have him in and I have no idea why. Stop confusing me, fandom! Also, was Victor Trevor really Sherlock's boyfriend in the original or is this some kind of mutually agreed upon fanon?
The Torchwood Miracle Day featurette surprisingly made me squee. :D :D Even that little Torchwood sound at the end! :D I had no idea I'd be this bouncy about seeing it.
Victor Trevor was mentioned in the story "The Gloria Scott", which was Holmes' first case, and a story that is told in his own words, rather than Watson's. Victor was a school friend with whom he went home on a holiday, he showed off his observational skills to Victor's dad, who promptly attempts to have a heart attack. Turns out that Mr Trevor was being blackmailed for something or other that Holmes figured out at first go, and Holmes goes on and on about how horrified he was that he had brought on such a reaction, omg, etc. And then Holmes proceeded to have a special hatred of blackmailers for the rest of his career.
But sure, Moffat, he's a sociopath with no empathy, whatever.
*squishes Julie and RTD * I will be increasing my cable bill just for this. I can admit it, I squeed when Julie came on. *sigh* How sad is it that Torchwood will now probably make more sense and have more compelling characters than Doctor Who? (Moment of silence for my beloved Ianto...) Moment over..SQUEEE! Julie and RTD!
The promos for "Miracle Day" running on comcast's ondemand and these little teasers/inside looks are getting me more and more excited for it =D With Breaking Bad coming back too, July's looking like an awesome month for cable TV.
1. Bill Murray seems to be an old army buddy of John's. We never meet him, but we see John emailing him and he's one of the frequent commenters over on John's official blog. Also, can I just say that is John is supposed to have people following his blog like people followed ACD's Watson's stories in the strand? They really really need a better blog writer. It's pitiful.
The fact that he regularly comments on John's blog, and that's the main way we have any concept of the existence of this character, makes it really weird how many people write him as someone killed in Afghanistan who John couldn't save. Blogging from beyond the grave, I suppose.
Victor Trevor was Sherlock's friend from uni, I think they met when Victor's dog attacked him. Fanon turned him into a boyfriend, because it is patently impossible for any two people to be just friends, ever.
HA! Well I've seen more than a few fics that describe the sociopath thing as being Sherlock's pet self-diagnosis in order to act like a tool rather than something fact. XD
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to watch it through the Netflix site where they stream the Starz channel live. Hopefully! But I was squeeing at RTD and Julie too. Probably more than any of the actors. :D
IDK I like that they're not really well written. ACD's Watson actively published his stories, but John's just posting a personal blog. Could it gain a big following like Watson's stories? Sure. But it's just somewhere John could rant about his crazy flatmate right now.
Sherlock stuff - heh. I mostly ignore the names that keep popping up, partially because I'm really bad at remembering the names of tertiary characters anyway, and partially because I figure they get pulled from the books. Which turns out to be the case. :-)
Yep, at one point Sherlock says his grandmother was the sister of french painter Vernet, who was a real person so kind of a RPF crossover. Also I think a few times he speaks flawless french and impersonates a french peasant.

Fandom is funny sometimes with fanon lore.

Well, of course! Two people with working genitalia need to use it at all times! Or at least have the ability to use other's.
