I like this part: Anyone caught outdoors is urged to lie flat in a ditch or other low spot and to cover his or her head with their hands.

I understand the logic of that and the 'better than nothing' sort of deal, but I can't help but think, "Yeah, like that will help if a tornado tries to suck you up."

Meep! Be safe!

*represses urge to giggle* It's only a watch. I've had watches that lasted all day and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

And plus, the odds of there being more than a waterspout or an F1 in a location that rarely if ever receives tornadoes or the threat of tornadoes is so miniscule on top of the already teensy chance of one even happening...

I'm not only a weather-aholic. I'm also a member of the Tornado Alley club. Well, close to tornado alley. Close enough for my blood.

Yeah, they had some statement from the Red Cross this morning. What to do in case of a mud slide: Get out of the way. HA!

Up here in Portland OR/Vancouver WA we have tornados ever two or three years.

It always confuses me (and it's not a little freaky to see it on the news). This sure as hell ain't Kansas.

Maybe I should invest in some ruby slippers just in case...

What a world, what a world!

*dances*

Yu say portato, I say por-tah-toe

I need a first prime temporary tatoo...

And I live in the #1 ranked state for number of killer tornadoes per square mile! Despite the low population density!!!! Hooray for us! We're number one!

Watch out. Those things don't come off for a week.

Ha! And MEEP. That would freak me out. Of course, it probably is all about what you're used to. Earthquakes? So not scary.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

MEEP, MAN!

That could be embarrassing at church...

Absolutely. I grew up with tornadoes, and the kids know in tornado season to keep the Gameboys and flashlights near the closet where I make them hide when the tornado sirens go off. For all that, I've never been in a building that was hit by tornado. Ever. Just seen the effects. *will never live in a trailer 'cause they get dribbled like a basketball, OMG*

Earthquakes cover such a big area, and I have *no* clue what to do in an earthquake. Earthquakes are *very* scary.

But tornadoes have witches in them! And an earthquake is pretty easy. 99% of the time you don't do anything because by the time you realize "hey, this is an earthquake" it's over. Things have shaken around, maybe something fell off a cabinet, otherwise not really much to do. The 1% of the time, which I've never experienced even though I've lived all but 4 years of my life in So. Cal., I suppose you're boned anyway, even if you would crawl under a desk.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's OKAY. *SLOBBER*

(But now I really want to see that ep of AD.)

I figure the 1% earthquake is probably like the F5 tornado, which I simply do not worry about since it is so rare. But in the back of my head, all earthquakes are the 1%, probably like the F5 tornado is all tornadoes to you - bend over and kiss your butt goodbye. (The lie down in a ditch thing actually works unless it's an F4 or F5 tornado, which almost never happen. Most people are killed by flying debris, not by being tossed miles into the air, and the lying down in a ditch is safer, really.)

Tell me about it! There was a tornado in Palm Springs this weekend while we were 20 miles away. They showed the funnel cloud on the news.
