Today I learned
  1. [livejournal.com profile] woodface does not want to reproduce with me. :(

  2. I still hate the TV network Lifetime. You know, the "Television for Women" that's into "Celebrating women every day." I'm not sure who these women are that watch this station, this station that seems to think that women spend their days either being a victim or going shopping. Sometimes both. Today's lineup (I kid you not):

"A Mother's Justice" - A daughter is raped. The mother probably shops somewhere in there.

"Against Their Will: Women in Prison" - Women prisoners who are undoubtedly raped by the guards. (Encore probably airing on Spike.)

"Silencing Mary" - College co-ed is raped by a football star. May not include shopping, but will probably have cute clothes.

"Murder at 75 Birch" - First break in the rape marathon as this is just a murder. Although there could be rape as the description doesn't really say how this person died. Anyway, I'm sure there's lots of shopping.

"Fatal Reunion" - Old boyfriend turned stalker. The show/movie most likely to include both shopping *and* rape.

"Strong Medicine" - Someone gets raped and the guy is acquitted.

"Missing" - Human smugglers and a kidnapped daughter of a senator, which means a sex ring!

Hey Lifetime! Quit saying you're "television for women!" In fact, please stop referring to women in general as it takes my gender's name in vain. What the hell is Lifetime smoking?

But 2 of those films DO have Teryl in *G*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? HA! Hmm. Wonder if she does any shopping in them.

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL indeed.
I should be worried I knew that.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't have any giant Teryl posters in your room, do you?

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*whistles innocently*

[identity profile] vicki595.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs*

That's exactly what I was going to say!! *g*

Bwah, my genes are probably worse.

[identity profile] suzvoy.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Lifetime sounds exceedingly twisted.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww! You Teryl minions are so cute! :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah but you're a pure-blood European! I am just an American mutt.

"Silencing Mary"

But ... two Corin movies within 16 hours! And Teryl! Twice!

However, I must share what someone wrote in IMDB about this one ...

Here we have a grown up college girl going to a big frat party with lots of college men around. She uses no good judgement and winds up getting soused in her excitement over being a big college co-ed. Her common sense further erodes as she is easily led up 2 flights of stairs to a secluded room by the university's big shot quarterback. There, to her shock and dismay, she was longpoled by Senor Stud. Horrors! She didn't know the guy wanted her favors? Probably thought he wanted to show her his collection of cabbage patch dolls. What a moron. The next day she is all whiney and moany over the supposed loss of her virginity. Yeah, right. Then in steps her cutsily adorable roomie to set things right by taking on the evil, male dominated, money hungry system which controls the entire university. Yaaawwwwnnnn.... This bilge was more predictable than yesterday's ballgame as we are expected to believe most women are downtrodden saints, and nearly every man either an unfeeling jerk, a backstabber [of females, of course], or a wimpy waterboy. This feminist drivel should be silenced right along with Mary.

Yowsah!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really bizarre. But then I get annoyed whenever anyone tries to say that women should think and act and like all the same things.

*clears throat*

I am a woman! And I don't particularly care for sad movies!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good Lord.

This feminist drivel should be silenced right along with Mary.

See, it's things like Lifetime that make people think this kind of crap equates to feminism, when it's just, well, crap.

They run really bad movies that seem to showcase a twisted version of a woman's world. I would use "outdated" but was this kind of thinking ever the norm? Probably not. It's simply the stuff dreamed up by third-rate romance novelists.

Yup.

It's simply the stuff dreamed up by third-rate romance novelists.

See, I think this is the real problem with Lifetime. Third-rate romance novel stuff is what they're all about. Now, on the shelf, only die-hard third-rate novel readers will seek out such. But on TV, it's out there for the whole world to see. Warped no matter where it is, but at least on the shelf it doesn't have the same exposure.

It's obvious they've gone and hired Gail Delaney.

[identity profile] jemster.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't they? Think we could pimp them out?

I know! We can make a Made-for-TV movie and I'm sure Lifetime will pick it up!

[identity profile] josephides.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahahahahaha!

hey

[identity profile] pittsburghgirl.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
you know-i never noticed that the channel for women always shows women getting banged up, abused, left, deserted, betrayed-what is up with that?

life time for women-my Aunt Sally Sue!

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hubby refers to Lifetime as "The man-hating channel". Which is totally true. Since they stopped showing China Beach, there is nothing there worth watching. *sigh*

Tell me about it!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems like they're basing their programing on an outdated stereotype of women. Weird.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of them. Other side's from England. So I'm all kinds of white! (I can't dance either.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Just as long as there's no rape involved!

Eeeek! A full blooded white!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
HA!

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Very. And when they first started they used to show some decent stuff. Makes me wonder about whoever took over the programming there....
