More GoT

  • So the red-head gives birth to sentient tar? I...what? These Light people were already a bit annoying and now they're shooting out tar. SOMEONE WAS SMOKING WHILE WRITING THIS.

  • I don't understand what was happening in the place Arya was taken to. Why were the people (that group of mostly kids headed for the Wall) taken to some burned out village? And then why were people questioning them as if they knew anything about the burned out village? I WAS SO LOST HERE. Was it a training camp for torturing?

  • Why was the non-Stark son sent to live with the Starks in the first place?

  • What was that thing that one cowardly lion dude gave that daughter-wife? It looked like a bit of plastic, but was Very Important.

Dude: Take this. It belonged to my mother.

Woman: Erm...a piece off some luggage? No wait, one of those cabinet stops. Hmm.

Dude: Keep it safe for me! I will return for it!

Woman: A suppository? Help me out here.

  • I have another very big WHAT question, but I'll save it since it looks like I'm nearly caught up. It's confusing me though, and hopefully the next few episodes will address it. I'd rather not talk about it until seeing the rest though. *shifty eyes*

Theon was a hostage, sent to Winterfell from the Iron Islands to ensure his father's good behaviour.

Ah. So when he's rejecting his son because of it, he's being a dick.

Doesn't Arya's traveling group get captured by Lannisters looking for Gendry?

They do, but then I was confused about the torturing since it didn't seem like they were asking about Gendry. It was a "what is the point of this, and are these people all idiots?" thing.

I have no idea what this sentence means LOLL

BAH. YOU EXPECT ME TO USE NAMES?

Oooh, this place has pictures, which is way more helpful than "this person is that person's son."

http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters

Ha! The dude's name is Samwell! A hobbit name!

Okay, so Samwell gave...I CAN'T FIND HER... something. What is that something?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2012-05-07 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL OH

Yeah it was a thimble I guess. TBH I don't pay a lot of attention to Jon Snow's scenes because fuck Jon Snow and his scenes.

Your grasp of names is about equal to Hannah's.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
HA! I'm usually interested in his scenes, but not because of him. It's because sometimes there are zombies and other weird crap with him.

[identity profile] muneca-brava.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was one of those things you put on your thumb when you're using a needle for sewing but it was weird anyway. I liked the moment but they could have used a prettier object, come on! I think the Importance is mainly that he promises to come back for it/her.

And yeah, the Arya plot got condensed and therefore makes little to no sense anymore :P Basically, her group was captured by people working for the Lannisters who were looking for Gendry, but they are more interested in torturing than anything else. They think they killed Gendry, and now they just want more information on other 'rebel' groups who are travelling in the area.

Oooh, okay. And it will probably wind up biting him in the ass, won't it?

Huh. I wonder why they think this group would have any info about the rebels. They're obviously just passing through.

[identity profile] muneca-brava.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, in the book they think they're part of the village so it's a bit weird on the show because they're clearly just passing.

URG. CONFUSING.

Yeah, they did not do a great job of translating that bit to film. I'm assuming that a future episode will provide a bit more exposition, but there is a marauding band of anti-Lannister ~rebels in the countryside that are being looked for. The villagers being tortured were being asked about whether or not they were supporting those rebels. Arya and Gendry's group was taken there just because that's sort of where everyone was being taken so that various cans of whoop-ass could be opened upon them from a central location.

It was his mom's thimble. Sam's whole thing is that he was just really close to his mom and kind of a sissy boy and unfortunately his dad is a Big Manly Man of Manliness who simply could not tolerate having such a sissy boy as a son. So the connection to his mom is kind of a Big Deal for Sam.

And they just decided to torture them right along with everyone else. Man, yet another reason I need to rule them all and make them much more efficient at torturing the right people.

Awwwww. Thing aren't going to go well for Sam, are they?

Why was the non-Stark son sent to live with the Starks in the first place?

You mean Theon? Basically his father (Balon) staged a rebellion ten years prior to the start of the series. Balon was defeated and to ensure his future good behavior, Theon was essentially taken as hostage. If Balon tried to start anything again, Theon's life would be forfeit. This is why it was especially dumb for Robb to send Theon to Balon (which is what Cat is trying to tell him) because once Theon is back on the Iron Islands, Balon has no reason NOT to start another war.

ETA: Oh. I thought I was answering a question no one had answered yet because apparently I somehow missed the first comment in this post.

Oops. Oh well. Carry on.

Wow, that is pretty dumb to send him back there then. Balon is a dick.

Although it is a bit amusing that at least someone is all "you all go fight over there and we'll take everything over here!" :D

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Balon IS a huge dick and uuugh. ROBB SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO CAT. Like, sure, Robb sees Theon as a brother, but Cat knows how strategically dumb it is to send Theon away and how untrustworthy the Greyhoys are. ROBB NEEDED TO LISTEN TO HIS MOTHER.

She does seem like one of the saner people at the moment. And she is getting to witness a lot of insanity at the moment.

Balon is a dick, but I have a begrudging respect for the Iron Islanders--they know who they are and they live life accordingly. Screw this "game of thrones" shit--we take what we want, people.

Yeah, I liked that bit. Finally someone who doesn't care about the Iron Throne.

Much like Samwise Gamgee, dude is going to step up to the adventure. :)

Awwww! That's good. He's one of the few characters I'd be disappointed to see die.

[identity profile] josephides.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I am just slightly ahead of episode watching than you but - mostly - I spend my time with my mouth open going 'WTF?!?!' and 'WHO THE HELL IS THIS PERSON?' and 'WTF?!?!' and then 'OMG THAT'S DISGUSTING'.

Also - I google frantically different characters trying to work out who they are.

Truly awesome TV.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. Pretty much this exactly! Although I'm mostly too lazy to google characters. Instead they are usually "some dude." :D
