  • So much fun! Okay, yeah. Much of it was completely ridiculous and the director is way too in love with that slow-mo filming style, but still. I laughed a whole lot and I actually liked this plot better than Sherlock's The Reichenbach Fall. (The acting still goes to Sherlock though. The ending of that was heartbreaking and very well done.)

  • And since I'm on the comparisons, I liked this Moriarty waaaaaaay better than Sherlock's Moriarty. You get the sense that he really is a match for Holmes rather than simply an unstable nutjob.

  • MARY IS AWESOME. I CANNOT SAY THIS ENOUGH. AND THEN SHE HELPED TO TAKE DOWN MORIARTY BY DECODING THE CYPHER. CLEARLY SHE NEEDS TO NOT DIE (per ACD canon) AND TO JOIN HOLMES AND WATSON IN FIGHTING CRIME IN THE FUTURE. AND SOME DAY ALL THREE OF THEM CAN RETIRE TO SUSSEX AND KEEP BEES.

  • Mary with Mycroft was hysterical. XD

  • It was so amazingly nice to have a female character who wasn't a love interest. Yes, women can actually have another purpose and existence outside of romance and/or sex! And can even interact with men without wanting to jump them, or using their bodies to get something! SHOCKING, I KNOW!

  • lol Watson's wedding. It was perfect that they showed up like they did. And Mary just raised an eyebrow. :D

  • This really was Holmes/Watson, wasn't it? XD But I loved Mary so much that I really would want to see the three of them together in the future. Well, if Mary doesn't die, Holmes will simply move in with them no matter what. I'm pretty sure I read a fic like that where one night Watson reached over to cuddle Mary and got an arm full of Holmes. Watson was all !!!!! while Mary simply sighed, and Holmes really had no idea why Watson was flailing about when everyone should be sleeping. Yup, that pretty much sums it up. XD

I laughed so hard at the naked!Mycroft scene xD Mary was inwardly freaking out and yet trying to be polite, and Mycroft was totally oblivious. I can see Watson/Holmes family dinners being very exciting xD

And movie!Moriarty was way more menacing and evil than Sherlock's Moriarty. They were both equally brilliant, but with Sherlock Moriarty I just want to give him a teddy bear and convince him it's his new best friend than run screaming in terror.

You can imagine the Christmas dinners, indeed! XD

HA! Yeah, BBC Moriarty just needed a good therapist.

I remember reading the books and hating how Mary (who I loved) just vanished off.

Plus: threesome. The film basically begs you to ship it.

I really hope they don't kill her off in the movies. I mean, they've already done so much different and they don't really need to for any reason.

Let the three of them live together forever in this universe! :D

I need to see these movies, methinks...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I really did enjoy it. Probably more than the first one, even. :) But be prepared for blockbuster-type over-the-top ridiculousness.

Oh I got that impression from the commercials/trailers! Can I pretend that Sherlock is an early ancestor of Tony Stark?

Woot!

It'd be pretty sad if they killed off Mary, she was so great here! As far as I can tell having read the canon, Irene wasn't out-right said to die in her single story and they seemed to kill her, so canon is only loosely followed. Technically it's not out-right said Mary died, it's just assumed, and considering how rarely she was in the stories after Sign of the Four, it was just expedient for ACD to get her out of the way so they could live together again.

She's totally marrying Holmes as well as Watson now, and they all can bounce off each other so well, it'd be nice to see her have to deal with their codependency. I'd love for her to have to deal with Mycroft again, too (Fry was the PERFECT choice!)

*CROSSES FINGERS* Mary was so perfectly cast, IMO. She's the perfect compliment to this Holmes and Watson.

TOTALLY. XD

Absolutely! I like him, but I really wasn't sure about him playing Mycroft when I heard about it. But he was great!

IRENEEEEEEEEEEEE

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I knoooooow. I prefer to think she outsmarted Moriarity and is off living the high life somewhere. Recent interpretations of Irene have been letting me down, I tell you what.

[identity profile] firstofoct.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Assuming they can get Rachel McAdams to be in the 3rd movie, I don't see why they wouldn't have her come back. Real movie deaths in movies like this are LAME. And she is way super smart, so I don't see how they couldn't spin it a bit.

And I'm not sure if I'm just so fond of Irene or if it's because it's Rachel McAdams, one of my most favorites ever.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
POOR IRENE.

In more ways than one. Two adaptations now that don't seem to really know what to do with the character. Bah.

Oooh, man, I have seen blurbs describe the ladies in the movie like, "Irene Adler dying to make way for new love interest [Noomi Rapace's character]" and, seriously, the fuck movie did these people watch?

These movies really are such a fun adaptation.

They are!

I really disliked Irene "dying" (no body, no death, but carry on), but that is not what happened. Sheez.

And Mary just raised an eyebrow That is because she is recovering from her own hangover, having been dragged off to play highwayman with Irene all night (Irene not being dead, Idc what anyone says). Mary insisted they couldn't rob her wedding guests. (Mary, of course, has a good hangover remedy recipe that she might one day share with John)

I'M USING THIS TWICE IN THE SAME POST. I DON'T CARE. BECAUSE THIS IS TOTALLY HEAD CANON NOW.

Stanley, where are you going!?

I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I love Sherlock Holmes as a character forever, and while I feel like RDJ and BC do him so differently I ADORE them both. It does help that I am in love with both these men and so their different Sherlocks make me all wibbly. I do like RDJ better, just because that's me, so my BFF and I have decided when it comes to Sherlocks, she can have BC and I'll keep RDJ.

I saw this in theaters three times. THREE. And I can't wait till I'm un-broke so I can go buy my copy so I can watch the beautiful hilarious bromance and amazing MARY AWESOMENESS. LOVE.

STANLEY. How is a guy just standing there so funny? XD

They are completely different animals! But yet I like them both! For some reason I have no problem accepting both of them as Sherlock Holmes.

I never made it to the theater for some reason, but I've been waiting and waiting for the DVD to come out. :D

STANLEY. How is a guy just standing there so funny? XD

I think it's just that he is this ancient creature, who is just fluffy and adorable! My sister saw the movie before me and was like "Watch out for Stanley; he's my favorite character in the whole movie." And I love Sherlock's line "Stanley... you haven't aged a day."

And I have been waiting for the DVD to come out for AGES. Usually movies that come out over the holidays come out right around my birthday in March (aka why I have ALL THE DISNEY MOVIES) but this one, they were like "LOL NOPE. No can has sexy Sherlock times." Me: :C

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It did take forever to come out on DVD! I wonder why.

[identity profile] nicachick007.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
My guess is it's one of those things where it was like "We'll make them wait and then they'll want it more." Absence makes the heart grow fonder!

This. A million times this.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
There's really no comparison, even.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much the only thing I truly disliked about this movie was that one slo-mo scene in the forest. Only time I checked my watch while watching in theater. :-)

Also, I agree entirely on Mary's awesome, which is why I have trouble reading movie!Sherlock fic that isn't trio fic. I even think Holmes may be starting to agree with us, once he can get around his jealousy.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that forest scene was when I decided that they really overdid it with that camera stuff.

I read Holmes/Watson movie fic, but that was before I saw the movie. Now I'm definitely going to want Mary. :D

Ugh. If Moffat writes her, I'm sorry but she will pretty well suck. She'll either be oversexualized or needy or both. He really could take a lesson from the movie, but...he won't. And to top it off, he'll just end up fridging her anyway.

And HA!!! Mary would totally acquire a Sherlock when she marries John. XD

[identity profile] intrikate88.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
ALL OF THIS EXACTLY. I just get the strong sense that Mary is quite aware that while she is technically marrying John Watson, she's actually marrying Holmes&Watson. That's just all there is to it. Mary is awesome.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-06-13 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* Like she said at the end, "he'd want to come with us." XD
