Am doing a rewatch of Once Upon a Time. What's Rumpelstiltskin's deal with babies? What would he do with them if he got his hands on them? Maybe I shouldn't ask...

To be fair to him, most of his deals do not involve babies! There were three baby deals we saw so far and in two of those cases we know exactly what he would do with them - find them homes. For a price of course. (That would be James - who is the adopted son of a king, and Henry - who is the adopted son of Regina.) We don't know in Ashley/Ella's case but he does mention a family waiting for the baby so I'd say adoption in that case as well. People who want a child badly enough and can't have one are certainly desperate, making being a baby broker good business. *g* (Also, I don't think he wanted Ella's baby - he was just trying to push her into a corner.)

I may have thought about this a bit...

:D I get the Mr. Gold stuff - that makes sense. It was specifically in the case of Ella that I had just watched. And in old fairy tales, didn't Rumpelstiltskin also go after babies? What the heck does he want with them???

Ella's deal is odd all around. He's upfront with everyone else but he keeps her price a secret. He has her sign a long-ass contract where all his other deals are verbal. And then he signs the second deal knowing she is not on the level. I just don't think that deal was ever about a baby.

As for original flavor Rumpel, he DID like babies but we never find out why. With this version it may be a Bae guilt thing but I think think mostly it's that they are VALUABLE and precious and there are people will pay anything (his favorite word) to have one.

*nods* I'm now onto "The Sheppard" and I forgot that Rumpel gave Charming's brother to the King, to raise as his own child. So you're probably right - it's a sort of currency with him.

So long as that gets the babies out of my way... Why must you look a gifthorse in the mouth?

:D I don't know, reading the comments has me thinking that maybe it is a combination of guilt and value.

IT MAKES ME WONDER. :D But in the case of OuaT maybe it's a guilt thing? Or something?

I think it's a guilt thing, that he wasn't a good enough father and so now deals that involve babies and perhaps trying to redeem some of that with placing children in what he thinks might be better situations. Doesn't mean he's right, but he does have a real lack of judgement when it comes to kids, I think, because his perspective is so skewed.

Yeah, I could buy that. His perspective is pretty off-kilter on things, that's very true.

I just rewatched "Dreamy." Really disliking the Blue Fairy right now. :/

WHY DID AN EPISODE ABOUT A DWARF BREAK MY HEART???

ETA: Not sure about Rumple's deal with babies, unless he's trying to find some replacement for Bae. And even that doesn't make much sense to me?

Much I remember of that episode is that dwarves come from eggs. XD

Do you remember the fairy tale?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-09-16 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it involved getting someone's first born, but I don't remember specifically. :D

He would grant a wish if you promised him your first born. I believe the story entailed giving a princess the ability to weave gold to save her kingdom. You could send him back to the underworld or wherever if you could guess his name in three tries.

I wonder what he wanted with it.

It's probably best not to ask with him. XD
