More Pretender Stuff

  • I've decided to rename The Pretender to The Ms Parker Show.

  • After seeing how many eps of Jarod saving the world, I'm reeeeeally craving a story where Jarod screws up big time. Not just that he couldn't save someone (I've run across an ep like that) but one where he actually messes up. I can't remember if there are any like that down the road, but this show needs that.

  • Am still way more interested in the Centre stuff. I just saw some eps where Ms Parker & Co find the creepy basement of horrors. I can't even remember what Jarod was off doing, but obviously it wasn't as interesting.

  • Jarod really does become a completely different person around Ms Parker. Both personalities seem just as real, for some reason, but I prefer messed-up sharp-as-a-knife Jarod as opposed to what-is-this-world-around-me Jarod. (Especially when it involves sobbing at a one-night stand.)

My favorite episodes are the ones where Jarod and Miss Parker work together. You're right about Jarod being more interesting when he interacts with her. He becomes someone you believe is dangerous to the Centre, instead of some manchild vigilante. There's actually tension there, a possibility he's fallible, because when they're in the same place she's smarter and more capable than he is. He has to rely on luck to escape her, instead of forethought puppet-master machinations, which always fail him when they're face to face.

"Bank" and "Keys" will always be my favorite episodes. In Keys we see that other side of Jarod for the first time, that dangerous side, because it's the first time they're together on screen, and then in Bank they have to work together, but they never lose that fractious edge.

OMG, listening to the commentaries with Weiss and Parker are FANTASMIC. They make fun of each other a lot.

In other news, did you know that Jarod and Ms. P share less than an hour of actual face time for the whole four seasons of the show?

Also: Ms. Parker remains my favorite, and should have gotten an Emmy for keeping a straight face through the entirety of season 3.

I just watched Keys and it's like "MORE INTERACTION, PLEASE." I love that edge he takes on - like you said, you see that he really is dangerous when he's around her.

And I love it when we see just how smart Ms Parker is. The show is mostly focused on Jarod, but she could do some serious shit (or more serious shit) if she felt like it.

I've never heard the commentaries! (A sad side effect to watching on Hulu. Or Netflix, etc.)

Ha!

Jarod does get more dangerous and less naive as the seasons go on! Which is good, because the wide-eyed innocence does get old quickly.

But yeah, the Ms Parker show is the bestest.

If I were to do a The Pretender remake, it would totally be the Ms Parker show. With lots of creepy Centre-driven plots. And no full names. *nods*

I remember a handful of Jarod's plots, mostly the ones that involved Jell-o.

I'd love to see this show again. :) I've forgotten so much of it!

I've skimmed past a lot now. I just couldn't get into Jarod's week-to-week stories. :D
