So Dr. Whale = Dr. Frankenstein! Bonus points to whoever called it. :D

But super creepy that Regina's Daniel is now the Monster. This might be the thing that gets me to feel sorry for her, because DAMN. It would be one thing if Daniel was simply alive again, but we all know that the Frankenstein story doesn't work that way. *shudders*

Also, a surprising amount of blood and body parts for what has been a fairly PG-rated show so far! Not that I'm complaining or offended, just a bit surprised.

Well, it' the Halloween special so... what happens at Halloween stays at Halloween? XD

I didn't even think about the fact that it's Halloween! I'm a bit slow today. :D

I hope it'll be interesting!

Given what they've done to the other stories, it probably won't bear much resemblance.

Okay, I get calling Frankenstein sci-fi (it was required reading for my into to science fiction class) but... fairy tale? This might be stretching the genre a little bit, even for OUaT. :D

[identity profile] queenrikki-hp.livejournal.com 2012-10-26 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really think it's stretching. They aren't doing only fairy tales. They've done fairy tales, Greek myths, Arthurian legends, 19th century novels. I think because many of them were Disney related, no one thought too much about it.

They seem to be branching out a bit? You do wonder where he was pre-curse though, since no one knew where he was. So...maybe there are different areas of "fairy tale land" that don't overlap or something?

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2012-10-26 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good point, I guess I fall into that group.

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2012-10-26 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
They do seem to be, but like [livejournal.com profile] queenrikki_hp said, because of the previous non-fairy tale stories utilized were DIsney related there's a possibility that people didn't balk so much, I think that really does apply to me. I was cool with other non-fairy tales but I did balk at this one. :D

You do wonder where he was pre-curse though, since no one knew where he was. So...maybe there are different areas of "fairy tale land" that don't overlap or something? This brings to mind the idea that Aurora and Mulan are still in FTL, so there's gotta be non-overlapping lands, right? Otherwise everyone would've been cursed.,,, And now I want a map of FTL.

Oooh yes! A map would be good.

Much like the map in One of Our Thursdays is Missing. I studied that map for a while. :D

I remember last year when they brought up King Midas I paused for a minute because I was still thinking it was just going to be fairy tales (or Disney movies). I actually find this whole thing interesting. I wonder if the sheriff had been Sherlock Holmes like they originally intended, would people be balking at Whale being Dr. Frankenstein.

I've seen people try to argue their way out of him being Frankenstein or that they were intending him to be someone else originally. I don't really think that's true since he's been named Whale since he came out (Whale because of James Whale the director of Frankenstein).

I never knew that about Frankenstein's director, I was wondering how the writers connected the two. I wasn't really focusing on spoilers last year and I'm not even sure when we were introduced to King Midas, everything kind of blended together, the perils of marathoning a show for half the season and watching the rest live. :D
