I rewatched The 10th Kingdom.

  • I'd sort of forgotten how cheesy it could be.

  • I'd also blocked some of the more troubling things (there are a lot) with a LALALALALALA. (Wolf is a bit Twilight on the stalker angle.)

  • The first part is a bit cringy, even. I'm not sure they really knew if they were a parody, a comedy or trying to play it straight. (See Once Upon a Time for how to do fairy tale mashups right.)

  • Despite all that, I really wish there had been more. Virgina's voice over at the end indicated some big problem they came back to, which would have been interesting.

  • This was actually the first show I wrote fic for back in the day. I've unintentionally lost it though. But speaking of fic, I think I might re-read this fic to see if it was as good as I remember. (It was THE fic way back when.) I remember it being epic and plotty, so we'll see.

I love 10th Kingdom.

I always took Wolf to be a very damaged character when we first met him. His parents death, being part wolf and being in prison and that his journey in the miniseries was really healing for him.
Wolf's journey was to figure out who he was and who he wanted to be. Virgina's journey was to forgive her mother and stand up for herself.

I always wished we had gotten a sequel. I miss getting awesome miniseries and fun Saturday night family movies during the summer hiatus on the basic stations

And oh God I loved that fic.

*nods* They're definitely meant to be very different people in the end as compared to the beginning. I would have liked to have seen more of who they wound up being.

And it seems like no one really does mini-series any more, except for UK shows with short seasons. :D

I loved that movie/mini-series and always wanted there to be a sequel.

It seemed like it was set up for a sequel, but they never got a chance to. *sniffs*

That's what I thought too, but alas we never did get one :(

I have this on my Netflix queue. I remember watching the beginning back when it first aired, but then for some reason, I never finished it.

It's kind of a parody, right?

Sort of a parody, I think? :D

I recently re-watched it, too, and I have to agree about the troubling bits. And Wolf. I mean, wow.

I do like how silly it was, though--I'm a fan of cheesy.

I liked that one too, as cheesy as it was and as stalker-y as Wolf was to begin with. (Although I don't think he in any way approached the level of creepitude that Edward did.) I felt like it was begging for a sequel, too.

Ooh, it's on Netflix! I might have to rewatch myself.

It was fun to see it again. (I did the Netflix thing too.) It's crazy how into it I was back then. :D

My sister and I loved this. She even bought the tape set from NBC (note, tape). I haven't watched it in years but we wore the tape out so I did of course enjoy it. I put it my netflix queue so when I get the time, I'll eventually get to it.

I have the tapes too!! Shame they're basically worthless now.
