Oh, the HORROR.*

S3 spoilers for DW:

*Horror not actually felt, but rather was used with a great amount of sarcasm.

I was actually going to put in something like, quelle horreur, just to be really sarcastic, but I wasn't sure I was getting the French right so I ditched it. Honestly, some people get so caught up... *shakes head*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the fancy stuff will trip you up every time. You need to go for the raw sarcasm. ;)

And now I have a sudden urge to go hunt down this terribly cute picture of the Doctor holding SJS's hand, but can't remember what episode that was from.

We should do old and new, just for compare and contrast. Honestly, some people. And as [livejournal.com profile] mcamy pointed out, the Doctor was holding Rose's hand from day one, before he even knew her. Of course, I'm sure some people would see that as indication of their soulmatiness, or something. ;-)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh heh. Well, you already know my opinion on that. Relationships taking time, blah blah blah.

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope it is okay that I replied in that thread.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, sure, not a problem!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh ha! I *was* thinking about an old episode with the hand holding thing, but he was holding her hand in School Reunion too! It's. What. He. Does.

It was pretty common, especially with Four, who was more tactile in general than Three.

Even in rather awkwardly posed publicity stills. *g*

Three did the grab-the-companion's-hand-to-run thing some (I suspect a statistical analysis would say that it was mostly with Jo, due to the RL explanation that Katy Manning was so blind without her glasses she was known to run smack into trees), but Four did it a LOT.

Okay, that is pretty awkwardly posed, but it still makes me "aww!" :)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

but Four did it a LOT.

Bless.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yeah. When I can stop laughing long enough to actually think about it, I suspect much if not most of the Three/Jo shippy vibe can ultimately be put down to Jon Pertwee trying to keep Katy from breaking herself IRL.

Which is, really, adorable in and of itself.

Four and his tactileness are indeed adorable in general. Much, much more adorable than a 6'4" crazy man has any right to be.

Then you have the Five situation, where the Beeb reportedly strictly curtailed any form of touching female companions on account of Peter being all young and cute, and them not wanting crazy people like Mary Whitehouse anyone getting the wrong idea. Except for the part where, in practice, they got around it ALL THE TIME. Is hilarious.

Oh, damn! Not having seen Five yet, but knowing vague character traits, I thought sure he'd be a big hand holder.

He so should be. And if I hadn't mentioned this, dollars to donuts you'd come away from his stuff swearing he was.

He's in my head forever as "the huggy Doctor" because Peter somehow managed to convey that impression so well. I'm repeatedly surprised when I look back at eps where my memories from when I was a kid have WAY more physical contact than actually existed.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, yeah. Not seen anything of that but I *still* have the impression of the huggy thing.

Probably doesn't hurt that many of the favorite iconable moments are the ones where they got around the restrictions. *g* "Oh, but see, Nyssa HAS to be clutching him for dear life in that cute little flapper dress there, seeing as how he's just rescued her from Certain Death on a rather precarious rooftop. You couldn't possibly make us cut THAT."

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee I ahd to go and comment. I am no longer a member of [livejournal.com profile] tennant_love but I swear all sides just amuse me. I am giggling at the people who are unhappy with the hand holding and I am laughing that I could guess who would be the first to show up and lay them out.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's just so... I mean, I have a faint *scratching* of older Who, but even I knew about the Doctor's hand-holding quirk. Quite frankly, it's adorable.

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep and even if that didn't exist, the fact is Rose is off the show. Things are going to move on. But to be fair, I do understand to an extent. I am a big couples person and always have been and it can be hard to make the break right away. And I do think many of the members of the comm are young girls.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Maybe that's it. I mean...hand holding! Come on! :D

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason Hands Across America just came into my head.

[identity profile] makesometime.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That actually makes me a little sad.

Damn, now I feel like one of them.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Truthfully? When we first learned about Martha a few months ago, and I thought about all the things she'd get to do with the Doctor that Rose can't anymore, including handholding, I got a little sad, too. But the handholding is just something the Doctor does. He's not going to stop now.

[identity profile] makesometime.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't really thought about DW for a while, to be honest, so I wasn't expecting to be sad. I reckoned I'd moved on, heh.

Never mind, I'm sure Martha will be very worthy of the handholding, I'm looking forward to it.

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay I wasn't thinking about all that until I raed this. LOL

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwww. *pats* But he did this all the time! It wasn't just a Rose thing. :-\

Hang in there. I'm sure the batchippers will take a rest and let the Crazy Du Jour swing back to the hardcore asexualist jihad any day now. :: sympathetic pats ::

Oh some of the old schoolers will being their own brand of crazy before it's through. They wank just as much as anyone.

Alas, all proper fringe goes around all the edges of an item. Or at least across both ends. Why should lunatic fringes be any exception? *snerk*
