When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not.
Okay, I'm finally going to do it. Netflix, baby. So hit me with which two classic Who episodes I should get first. Anything that's "this first! this first!" (FYI - have already seen Pyramids of Mars. Oh, and that movie. Heh.)

Ranedom fact: Richard Hatch who plays Tom on BSG was the original Apollo. Ahh old school BSG I remember thee.

Even if my brain wants me to write Doctor/Shmoo fic?
Yes it was the first one. I have watched a few arcs of the First Doctor. I am trying to go in order. My favorite so far is a reconstruction. I wish I had seen the original.
Nice that they're doing that, though.

Yup. Love that he's been a recurring character on the show.

Hand of Fear (Doctor #4 and Sarah Jane Smith).

Thanks!! Wouldn't mind more SJS, actually.

Hmmmm.... Since they haven't yet released the rumored Keeper of Traken/Logopolis/Castrovalva box... Out of what's on DVD, I think I'm just going to have to second both of these.
With "Curse of Fenric" as alternate. More vampires (sort of), Ace blows shit up whilst bearing an eerie resemblance to Ingrid Bergman, and Seven plays chess with Death (or a reasonable facsimile thereof).
Other alternate = "The Five Doctors," for it is On Crack but still a necessity.

Creepy is good. Love the creepy. And gotta see that Dalek one - probably will be towards the top of my list!
And icebluenothing Made this essential viewing list. So there's always that to fall back on.
Oooooooh!
Thanks!!

The Five stuff on DVD, alas, isn't necessarily the best, except maybe "Earthshock". But I actually recommend holding off a bit on that one until you've had other exposure to the companions involved.

*great big stupid g* I avoided mentioning this one, only because I have no objectivity on it as it was the My Very Firstest Doctor Who when I was 7.
If you want more Sarah Jane, I'd say "Genisis of the Daleks" because...well, Daleks.
Also, bloody effin' brilliant. Anvilicious Nazi metaphors and all.

And if you haven't seen it already, City of Death! Four and Romana II running around Paris, and John Cleese doing an art critic thing over the TARDIS! (I think I rec'ed this to you already. Consider it doubly rec'ed.)
Or anything from the season with Romana I is good, too. My favorites are The Pirate Planet and The Androids of Tara, but that whole season is something of an arc, and is probably best watched in order.
Re: Someone above mentioning Genesis of the Daleks
I've tried several times, but I can't finish that one. It's a six-parter, and it needed to be four, or possibly three parts. God, it drags.
Anyway. YAY, OLD WHO!

Oh yeah? The new stuff?
I think the last time I watched was when I was about 15 and my sis and I used to stay up till midnight to catch it on PBS. But good choice on the Netflix. It's great for when you want to watch episodes of fave tv show.
Yeah, it should be good. I plan on checking out a few shows.

Bwahahahahaha!! (and wow - don't think I've ever even heard of Harry before)

I remember you gave me a youtube link or...something. I did see that tiny John Cleese snip, but not the episode. Classic!

I'll have to be careful of that one.

I secretly have not seen part six of Genisis of the Daleks. I fell asleep. Also, Davros always creeps me out, because I can never tell if he's a puppet or a man in a suit. Or both.

Harry didn't get much development, and he was only on for a season. He and Sarah are funny together--she's the poster child for women's lib, and he apparently grew up in the Old Boy's Network. He keeps calling her "old girl," which ticks her off to no end.
Uh oh. Maybe I can do my nails or something. Heh.
I'd recommend it, especially when you get to your thirtieth shot of Sarah Jane Hanging From Scaffolding, Again.

Oh really? (See, I *knew* she'd knee Jack in the balls (http://mrv3000.livejournal.com/417722.html) for some reason. I just didn't know *why*. ;) )

She started out really, really women's libby--her first episode, "The Time Warrior," with the Third Doctor, is excellent. She's in 1300 or something, dressed as a scullery maid, lecturing the cook on how women should rise up against their male oppresors; I think her exact words are something like, "We're not int he Dark Ages anymore! ...Oh." Fab. But she got less and less independent and spunky and whatnot as her tenure went on, which was rather sad. :(

*chuckle* Errrr... not so secret anymore. *g* I always watch it in one swell foop and don't pay attention to the episode divisions, so I'm not sure what you missed.
Also, Davros always creeps me out, because I can never tell if he's a puppet or a man in a suit. Or both.
Man in lots of prosthetic makeup. And a rolly chair.

Harry = Old Skool Mickey. Er, sort of. Except that he was a UNIT doctor, and never anyone's actual boyfriend that we saw. But the "rather short-term companion" and "very ordinary guy who discovers reserves of heroism" elements apply.

I'll grant that she got less mouthy about it. Which, honestly, I was just as glad about, only because I was watching her much later. The kind of assertions that were revolutionary and actually needed to be said in 1973 sounded tediously obvious and hamfisted in 1982. (Albeit not as much as in 1996, when poor Amanda Tapping was getting saddled with them...)
But I've never seen her as getting any less assertive in general. She's still perfectly happy to tell off the Doctor or total strangers, just not always in terms that make it overtly about "UR oppressing me cuz I'm a woman OMG!!"
Forgot to add...

Poor, poor AT. But at least she got to mock herself in Moebius. :)
