Say what now?

So I was going through Netflix, deciding that I'd like some One DVDs. And then I ran across this:

Dr. Who and the Daleks

I *never* hear about this movie. I mean, even the Eight movie I heard people talking about before I saw it. Is this something that's pretty well dismissed outright? Not only does it sound like the same plot from the "The Daleks" but the Doctor's an Earth scientist? And Barbara's his granddaughter in addition to Susan? Why would someone feel the need to make this movie using the same plot but with those changes? o_O

*laughs* Here's the story I like to tell. :) Friends had been telling me about this show called "Doctor Who" for a while; it sounded interesting, but I didn't get around to watching it. Then I was at a SF con, and hanging out with the then-bf, who wanted to watch all the old movies in the movie room. I was going to go check out the dealer's room, when this film started up with a weird flying saucer spaceship. Then something happened and the film stopped, and wasn't going to start again for a while. We went to the dealer's room, and came back to see that they were restarting the film. So, we watched it. It was that first Peter Cushing Dalek movie (I am a Hammer film fan). It took a couple more years before I was convinced to watch any of the TV show! *laughs* It's a wonder that I ever became a fan!

I can only compare this experience as something similar to someone who has only seen the "Buffy" film and has never seen the TV show. Two different creatures, no real relation.

You can watch the Cushing Dalek movies, but don't think of them as having anything to do with the TV show. Especially not that bumbling cop guy! *shudders*

Ha! How funny! :D

And that's probably a good analogy - the Buffy movie and TV show. At least from what I'm gathering.

I may watch the movies someday, just out of curiosity.
