DW: The Keys of Marinus (One, Susan, Ian, Barbara)

Couldn't resist a screen cap with this one...

  • These One episodes seem to be getting progressively better. This is the first episode that, even though it was 6 parts, it didn't feel like it went on too long. It had the same sort of premise as the Key to Time arc - there were keys that they had to collect, each resulting in its own adventure in very different settings.

  • The Doctor was still a secondary character and even disappeared for a couple of parts. Side note - William Hartnell was only 55 when he started Doctor Who?? He looks...80. And acts 80. I can see why they made the Doctor "younger" in later incarnations. The very nature of the show is action-based and if your supposedly main character can never participate in the action...

  • The Doctor went to sleep for the night. But then, One's already a well-known napper. I wonder when the sleeps-rarely-if-at-all thing popped up. And why. Maybe to give *some* differentiation between Time Lords and humans? Since they look exactly alike, there have to be other things like two hearts, rarely sleeps, psychic, etc. But anyway, back to the One sleeping thing. I'm getting the feeling that I'm really not going to be able to get a whole lot about the Doctor's character from One, just because he's written *so* differently at this point. Maybe later on.

  • Finally, a screen cap.
