Meh.

I think the TMJ and wrecking my shoulder are taking its toll. I'm tired of hurting all the time. And this is more a whine than a need to be petted, which is why I haven't really mentioned this a lot before.
  • Last night's 24 was okay. Not much I feel the need to talk about.

  • Think Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars are off the TV rotation for now. Just wasn't motivated to watch last week and not motivated to watch this week.

  • Think I've decided to play pick-and-choose with DW's S3, which will be easy to do with reading people's spoilers ahead of time. If something looks good, I'll probably watch. If I'm rolling my eyes, I'll most likely skip it. Not sure if I'll watch the one episode that's related to a novel...not that I'm wiggy about the Doctor being human and engaged to this woman but doesn't remember being the Doctor (although, that whole plot - giant mound of crack) - but when I saw this spoiler I'd just watched The Aztecs where the Doctor accidentally becomes engaged. Okay, so that's mildly amusing. But then he proceeds to use her and eventually brush her off, leaving her heartbroken. Sweet Lord. In this novel, it's not really the same scenario (something about being a different person - again, giant mound of crack), but *another* woman ends up being jilted. Combine both of them, and it was all feeling rather crappy. Don't know if this S3 ep will be a sequel or an adaptation of the novel, but I have absolutely no desire to see the Doctor ultimately ditching some woman for whatever reason. And if the patronizing words of "you'll always have a special place with me" would be used, I'd probably go really nuts. Heh. So that episode could very well be skipped.

Sorry you're feeling poorly, hon. How'd you manage to wreck your shoulder?

Last night's 24 was okay. Not much I feel the need to talk about.

Yeah. I was a little surprised at slimy Chief of Staff guy getting Karen out of the way so fast, and the fact that Jack's brother was revealed to Jack and Jack's daddy to be a bad guy instead of just colossally incompetent so soon. Otherwise, ho-hum, filler episode.

Having not seen the Aztecs, I managed to miss that one. But yeah, if he actually says something similar to that, I'd hate it. It would strike me too much as one of those tired "babe-of-the-week" things that you get regularly on other shows and that I'd rather not see any of at all. Bah.

It was stupid - reaching for something in a weird way and I heard a crack. OW.

Pretty much. But I guess they can't all be action-packed episodes. Sometimes you gotta stop for some expositiony stuff.

Right. Maybe I can just empathize too much with the women. Not that I've ever been jilted from an engagement. And maybe it's because, at least with The Aztecs, it's more of a "well, the Doctor's the Doctor and so what happens to him is way more important than some random woman's feelings." It's so casual. (Okay, can you tell I was a little cheesed at The Aztecs?)

Also, I find the novel deeply weird in that the Doctor became human in order to experience feelings? o_O Um, I'm thinking he's pretty good at experiencing feelings. And then the whole part about abandoning being the Doctor (even mentally) while learning of these feelings, which seems counterproductive - wouldn't you *want* to be able to relate these supposed new feelings to being the Doctor? Wouldn't that be the point?

I *really* hope this is a sequel to the novel instead of an adaptation. I just cannot see the Doctor giving up who he is now, unless it was an accident or something.

Um, I'm thinking he's pretty good at experiencing feelings.

However, *expressing* those feelings? He's a dipshit. *snickers*

*laughs* No, I can't tell at all. But I can see why you would be. *sniffs* The Doctor's sooooo special, who cares what happens to this silly woman. Bah.

Yeah, that's really freaking strange. I, too, hope this is a sequel rather than an adaptation. Or even an adaptation where he becomes human by accident would be better. But on purpose? Eeek. I can't even see a devastated, immediately post-Time War Nine wanting to do that, even if he didn't have to remember anymore.

*snerk* Very much so.

Yeah, I don't think so either. It's almost like suicide. No, not *that* drastic, but to erase who you were? It's getting pretty damn close. Plus the whole last of his kind - and *especially* in the Runaway Bride where he said the name of Gallifrey lived on - well, it has to live on through him.

I *really* hope this is a sequel to the novel instead of an adaptation.

Last I heard, the major connection was a girl with the same last name as the woman in Human Nature. There are several ways they can go with that, but at least you can rest assured it's not an adaptation.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
A DAUGHTER!

Although, wiki shows the woman's name as Joan in The Family of Blood, and I *think* Joan was the name of the woman in Human Nature.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Family_of_Blood

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Joan was the one in Human Nature as well.

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I was under the impression that the names were different, or that the connection was more subtly, but I suppose that's what I get for trying to avoid spoilers, but not fan reaction to spoilers. The Wiki article really does make it sound like a direct adaptation doesn't it? That would be...that would sort of suck for a lot of reasons. Though I am cautiously optimistic that they wouldn't blatantly rip off one of the books. It's a Paul Cornell episode, it has to be good! *clutches at straws*

I'd almost think that wiki could be wrong (wiki? wrong? NEVER!) but they have actual cast lined up with full character names. So it seems pretty valid.

That would be...that would sort of suck for a lot of reasons.

Yeah. *sighs* If they managed to get past the Doctor wanting to become human by making it an accident, you're still winding up with this ickiness at the end with, "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to break your heart. But you'll always have a special place with me..." And if they avoid the human thing altogether (which is messy in so many ways anyway), well, then the Doctor really does cycle through love interests like companions.

Heh. I'm in a MOOD today. A mood, I tell you!

Though I am cautiously optimistic that they wouldn't blatantly rip off one of the books. It's a Paul Cornell episode, it has to be good! *clutches at straws*

Well, Paul Cornell was the one who *wrote* this original novel. He may just throw the whole thing at Ten.

Yeah, I may be skipping this one.

"Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to break your heart. But you'll always have a special place with me..."

Or, I suppose, they could go the high-ground route with the Doctor asking her to come with him, but gets shot down since this person is not becoming a regular cast member. In which case...Christ. The Doctor *really* needs to go through another emotionally wrenching deal this next season, EH?

ENOUGH ANGST ALREADY! I'm starting to wish to see the Doctor playing chess with K-9 for an hour.

Poor MeRV. You need a nice relaxing day at the spa, with a handsome masseuse.

Just what The Doctor ordered.

Well it took you long enough. Although I've heard some good things about the new GG episodes. I just don't care anymore.

I know. I just kept watching for some reason. But...meh. I've got a DVD in right now and just have no urge to flip over.
