Things today that are making me ask 'why?'

  1. Why does our moon have no name other than The Moon? Of all the completely lame-ass names.

  2. Why are all big blockbusters usually sci-fi in nature, but sci-fi on TV can't find a big audience?

  3. Why after being filled in on last night's Veronica Mars can't I stop saying "WTF?" ETA: Spoilers in the comments.

Uhm...

1. It does -- its name is Luna. Which is where the words lunar, lunatic and lunacy all derive from.

2. Because movies have much bigger budgets than TV, and more folks than not don't want to watch cheap SFX. It's all about the bling.

3. Can't help you out here... Veronica Mars never made it into my "to be watched" list.

And apropos of absolutely nothing, don't you hate it when random readers of your journal have too much time on their hands, and clearly no idea whatsoever when a rhetorical question is asked? ;)

1. Not according to wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon I want a proper name, dammit!

2. You're probably right.

3. Ah well.

Absolutely not!

What part of VMars?

I did like it better than last weeks.

The part about the roommate giving the pregnant woman the morning after pill because she wanted her to have a career. Seriously, what woman would do that??! O_O

[identity profile] stephdub.livejournal.com 2007-02-07 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Probably because when they first found out about it, it was the only moon they knew about, waaay back in caveman times. Then we found out other planets had moons too, so they got names. That's my guess.

2. No clue. People need to get better taste in tv.

3. Because WTF is the only appropriate response. Seriously, WTF?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-02-07 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
1. :D I love that - the cavemen named it!

2. Obviously!

3. I know! *flails*

1. A proper name? How does Arthur sound? Arthur the Moon. Or, if you like french better, Arthur la Lune.

2. Wow, I don't hear that very often.

4. Yeah, that's deep subject.

Oh, good. :D

Arthur! Yes! Arthur the Moon!

No idea. She apparently had her "good interests" at heart.

But there was lots of V/W so I'm good with it. :D

It wasn't the morning after pill, it was the one that makes the girl have a miscarriage, RU-486. Someone posted a big bitch about it in [livejournal.com profile] veronica_fans, trying to start a letter campaign. And people where like "Did you even watch the episode? It wasn't the morning after pill."

*rolls eyes*

Heh heh.

What was the bitch about? Seems kinda like splitting hairs a bit. Okay, so a *contraceptive* pill was given to a pregnant woman. By another woman without her knowledge or consent. It makes me flail!

1. Sparkly Wonderous One! (possibly made of cheese!)

2. Because the SciFi channel insists on producing/airing really bad scifi movies/minis?

3. Because it's the only normal reaction to have! Seriously, OMGWTFPOLARBEAR.

The bitch was that she didn't like the fact that they portrayed the morning after pill as the one that causes the miscarriage. Which isn't what they did. No one on the show called it the morning after pill, they all said RU-486.

Yeah, it made the girl given the pill flail too. It wasn't given a positive light.

This one was all about the woman's right to choose. I think that it makes a statement that women have the right to choose to *have* the baby as well as abort it. This girl took the other girl's right to choose out of her hands. I like that it played both sides of the issue. I think you'd have to see it to really get it.

Hmm. Perhaps. Although I'm still in a state of WTF that I'm not sure I want to.

1. Okay, I changed my mind. The name needs to have cheese in it somewhere.

2. Shhh. Julie will hear you.

3. :(

You totally should. I think it was very well done.

1. Because we are the center of the universe.

2. Attention span?

3. Because it was HORRIBLE. I will have NIGHTMARES.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
1. Oh right!

2. Perhaps. Or perhaps it's the over-use of AU plotlines. AU plotlines lead to madness.

3. It just sounded so...ACK!

[identity profile] cheekygal.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Let's call the moon Bob.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Bob would be a nice sensible name. Bob sounds manly but yet accessible - someone you could have a beer with and watch the game. And the other planets would have no reason to mock. (Saturn, I'm looking at you!)

[identity profile] hyari.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
But...but!!! Then we wouldn't have moonpies, and mooning, and cows jumping over the moon, and !!! Just, !!!.

IT IS AN EFFING GREAT NAME!!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
But it could be BETTER! ARTHURpies, ARTHing and cows jupming over the ARTHUR!!!

Oh, and *this* is the dreaded fish of doom that A.j. fears.
