When will man learn that all races are equally inferior to robots?
I spent far too much money on smelly things at the Yankee Candle shop. Well, I needed refills to the plug-in thing that I picked up when
poohmusings was out. (These plug-ins last, unlike the Glade and other ones you can get at the store - the thing was near empty but still smelly from when I plugged it in in early December.) Plus they were having a sale - $8 candles! And I needed to pick up a bday present. So...there. Plus, I'm on vacation. I needed a souvenir or two to remind me of my time sleeping all day.
And onto Doctor Who since what's vacation without Doctor Who?

The Moonbase
- Okay, so this *wasn't* the first Cybermen episode apparently. Ben and Polly were talking like they'd seen them before. I suppose I could look it up, but where's the fun in that? ;)
- Part of this was a reconstruction and I'll be frank, it was pretty painful. You have to admire people for putting these things together, but the picture quality was so bad, most the time you had no idea what you were looking at other than black and white blobs. Also, no descriptive text of the action. So there'd be long pauses between dialog where *something* was happening, but you had no idea what. Still have no idea what happened to Jamie in getting hurt. If parts 2 and 4 hadn't been the actual episode, don't know if I could have made it through this one.
- Hadn't seen Ben and Polly before. Ben's pretty generic. But Polly - for some reason I had a pretty much instant reaction of "young Jackie Tyler." It was odd. I think because they look a bit alike and so I could see Jackie doing similar things - before life made her a bit bitter.
- The Doctor talked about getting a medical degree in the late 1800s, however I think I remember him saying later (with Four?) that the title was only honorary when asked if he was a medical doctor. Weird. But I guess his medical knowledge can come out whenever it suits the plot - like in "The Empty Child" - while making it clear that the reason he's called "the Doctor" is not because of a medical degree.
- Everyone was pretty moon-crazed back then weren't they? :) And aww - you could see the wires on the spaceships. *PATS*
Spearhead from Space
acciochocolate was telling me that with the start of Three and this series, new PTB came on board who used to work on The Avengers. You can tell it's a completely different style than prior stuff. Kind of a "New Who" already there. It's slicker, more polished, more "grown up," and the Doctor's even more debonair. (And that has to be the nudest the Doctor's ever been onscreen. HEH.)- The Nestene Consciousness and the Autons! Had no idea they were in this episode. (It's been kinda fun just throwing things in the DVD player without reading the summary ahead of time.) Finally nice to see them to tie them to "Rose." Kinda interesting they were in the episodes where both times Doctor Who pushed off in a different direction. Wonder if that was deliberate on the part of RTD et al. But anyway, some fun shots with the Autons that were very Night of the Living Dead/zombie flick.
- I'm glad I saw "Inferno" before this episode, because while I had major Liz love in that episode, I really didn't like her in this one. She kinda annoyed me.
- The Doctor shaking down the Brigadier for things was great! "I'll take a lab, and equipment, and Liz, and...a CAR. GIMME! Or I won't help you save Earth ever again!" "Well..." "Let's go pick it out now!" *SNORTS* But you gotta give the Doctor *some* toys if he has to be stranded on Earth. Otherwise he'd just start taking random things apart. Things you need.
- I couldn't quite figure out how much the Doctor was faking with his "amnesia." He seemed to know the Brigadier, that he kept the TARDIS key in his shoe, that he was the Doctor, etc. Didn't seem to be a whole lot of amnesia going on. (Grabbing and sleeping on his shoes? Just so oddly funny. :D)
- Think I'm going to have to wait until I've seen most of the episodes, but right now Three is edging his way up to favorite Old Who Doctor.
- Oh, sorta still related to this episode - I love that in New Who they're using a lot of the old sound effects, like the Auton's hands opening. That's just really, really cool.

Oh, Moonbase!
Yeah, I think there's, like, two? Maybe? episodes with Cybermen before this (Tenth Planet, mebbe? Or War Machines...). And I'm rather fond of Polly. *happysigh*
What's even more interesting about you noting the Autons being used to usher in change is that, when Liz is suddenly gone and Jo appears, it's also an Auton episode. RTD may've actually done it on purpose. Hah.
Damn. Now I want to watch Spearhead (it's been a good long while since I've seen it)...

Eventually I'll get there! :D

From what little I saw, I liked her. She was unique in the midst of Susan/Vicki/Zoeness.

Oh really! Interesting. Maybe trying to start a new tradition - like how the appearance of the Daleks often signals a shakeup of the TARDIS crew.

Doooo it! I'm loving these Three episodes.

I think because they look a bit alike...
O_o....They do.

Whoo-hoo! Three is currently my favorite Old Doctor. I am finally watching Inferno, and this is the first time ever the idea of a seven episode set has not filled me with dread.

You know, they make lighters nowadays... ;)

He's just so cool! And never once with Inferno was I "end already!" about it. Loved that one.
