Things I've learned from recent discussions with people:
  • [livejournal.com profile] nandamai: I like it when the world makes sense, which is why I always think someone's having a big old joke with stuff like this.

  • [livejournal.com profile] poohmusings: I will probably like North and South and should watch it. It's not about the American Civil War, right?

  • [livejournal.com profile] manticoran: I'm not really interested in Jack/Rose or Jack/Doctor, but I could read the occasional Doctor/Rose/Jack. Because Jack can come and play. If he's good, that is.

  • [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar: I can have a breakthrough in understanding certain things in DW fandom, but at the end of it all, it still makes no sense.

North & South is the BESTEST THING EVAH!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw people posting about it a while back, but it's one of those things that doesn't register until after a while. (July 2005: Oh, hmm. People have been talking about this Doctor Who show. Maybe I should check that out.)

[identity profile] soniag.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I'm going to have to watch it again this weekend! Can't wait to hear what you think!

[identity profile] poohmusings.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I've been telling her!

[identity profile] soniag.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, we could duel with Thornton icons!

HEE!

I saw that. On the one hand, it's refreshing to have wank that's just 100% crazy. On the other, that's really kind of scary. Eek.

manticoran: I'm not really interested in Jack/Rose or Jack/Doctor, but I could read the occasional Doctor/Rose/Jack. Because Jack can come and play. If he's good, that is.

Heh. Well, truthfully, I have trouble with most Jack/Doctor stories (because they don't deal with the Rose issue well enough for me), and Jack/Rose works better for me only because for most of them, they'd really prefer the Doctor was there, but he can't make it for some reason. Or is being stubborn about acknowledging his feelings. :-)

It was the 100% crazy that made me all, "No way. This can't be real. Nope." :D

and Jack/Rose works better for me only because for most of them, they'd really prefer the Doctor was there, but he can't make it for some reason.

Dear Rose and Jack:

Got caught up in a bloodless coup. Probably be a day or two. I'm sure you can entertain yourselves.

*snerk* Pretty much, yeah. Or Jack accidentally gets stuck in the same AU as Rose, or Rose makes it back and lands in Cardiff, but no one has the Doctor's phone number to let him know. And when he finally shows up some time later, he asks why they didn't just let him know, and they remind him he's not exactly in the phone book or anything.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose: *twiddles thumbs* So.

Jack: So.

Rose: I suppose I could help out at Torchwood while we wait.

Jack: Or we could have sex!

Rose: You sure we shouldn't be saving the world or anything?

Jack: Sex! Sex!

Rose: *sighs* Fine.

C'mon. Patrick Swayze in tight pants is totally hawt.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I worry about you.

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the truly great miniseries. They don't make them like that anymore. Roots, The Thornbirds, Shogun, Lonesome Dove and North and South. They were legnds.

well actually

[identity profile] pittsburghgirl.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
North and South is kinda about the civil war-or at least two families during the time of the civl war.

Re: well actually

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? The BBC's North and South?

Re: well actually

[identity profile] pittsburghgirl.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
oops!

hehe-thought that you were referring to the John Jakes novel North and South which has to deal with the American CivilWar.

Re: well actually

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh heh. No. This one's different. Although my mind did go there at first. :D
ext_5608: (madness)

[identity profile] wiliqueen.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not about the American Civil War, right?

Oh, thank heavens I'm not the only one. I started seeing the squeeing this morning, and was all "???? Okay, that's the second post. Can't possibly be the one with Patrick Swayze from 20+ years ago. They wouldn't remake it, would they? I NEED CAFFEINE TO MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE!!"

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the first thing that popped into my head too. :D

[identity profile] poohmusings.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops. Sorry. That was probably all me. :) I'm a wee bit obsessed with the series at the moment. Give me a couple of week -- I'm sure the obsession will pass.
ext_5608: (laugh)

[identity profile] wiliqueen.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, the obsession is adorable. Especially now that I know it's for a shiny new Beeb thing and not what I initially pictured! It was just the interim confusion that was...confusing.

[identity profile] poohmusings.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
What you initially pictured appealed greatly to me when I was 12. Now I've moved on to less cheesy ither things. :D

[identity profile] aj.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
aj sez: I like disco music by gay men. It's like... everything right with the world plus leather.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
And now I've learned something else new!
ext_18985: (coy)

[identity profile] aj.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And thus my good deed for the day: accomplished.

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I can have a breakthrough in understanding certain things in DW fandom, but at the end of it all, it still makes no sense.

Yep! I think I need to stop stepping outside my warm bubble. Out there leads headaches and madness. *sucks thumb*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's something in the water. *runs for the bottled water*

[identity profile] marble-rose.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have to know what this big breakthrough in understanding fandom is. I'd like to share in your newfound wisdom (even if fandom still won't make any sense afterward).

<i.I'm not really interested in Jack/Rose or Jack/Doctor, but I could read the occasional Doctor/Rose/Jack. Because Jack can come and play. If he's good, that is.</i>

YES!

I like the occasional R/D/J fic but mostly it's R/D all the way!!!

Can't stand J/D fics - never have :\

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not actually read any pure J/D fics (well...you can't count the crack!fic I wrote), and I'm sure there are good one out there. But it's all about preference. Just have got no interest in J/D or J/R. It's like trying to read a gardening magazine when I'm looking for recipes.

[identity profile] debs7.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've only ever read J/R when it's a procursor to a R/D fic.

There's an absolutel brilliant set of 2 fics written by [livejournal.com profile] sc_angel which is set Post doomsday that is first a Jack/rose but ends up being a Rose/Doctor fic that usually ends with me in tears :)

but yes definitely about preferences - that's why I cannot read a fic that is Doctor/anyone that isn't Rose. Doesn't do a thing for me.

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
These are very wise ponderings.
