Word/Excel Question

Hey, does anyone know if there's a way to change the default "paste" function into Word or Excel or both? I am *forever* having to do "paste special" to choose unformatted text. In fact, I really can't think of the last time I've actually wanted what I'm copying to be in html or what ever other format Microsoft decided it is. Yaktype or something. Who KNOWS.

Anyway, I would like for it to paste in unformatted text automatically. And if I want any other type of formatting, I'll let it know.

Oh man...the eternal question. I am curious myself. There is NEVER a time when I want it pasted as is...too much reformatting issues later.

Exactly! I'll do my own formatting, thanks.

I do not believe that you can re-set the default paste command to do so automatically, but you should be able to record a macro to paste unformatted text.

Oooooh. Macros! It's been forever since I've actually done one, but you can make buttons for them! Forgot about those!

What version of Word/Excel? If you're using 2007 you can go to Word Options, Advanced and there is a section on Cut, Copy and Paste. You can choose "Keep Text Only" for several different pasting options. There does not seem to be a similar option for Excel, but you can always right-click and choose paste-special that way. It is a bit faster.
I hope that helps.

Hmmm. Can't find that in my options - this could well be an older version - it's some kind of network version of Word, since the copy of the program isn't stored on my computer's hard drive.

But I have figured out the macro thing, which is FAB. Now I just have to click a button and POOF.

I hate that they made pasting formatted text the default. But you can definitely change the keyboard shortcuts—there’s some decent instructions here, if you’re curious. On the other hand, I see that you’ve already got a macro set up, so you should be good to go.

Oooooh. I wonder if it would let me change the Ctrl V shortcut...
