Since there've been loads of new people floating around recently, and even for people I've known for six years...
Comment and tell me: what is the one thing I should think of when I see your (user)name? Or, what is one thing I should know about you? It can be silly or serious, a one-liner or an essay; just tell me something about yourself!
And I've had a thought about the filters I use on LJ. If ever you want off a filter, just let me know. I won't be offended. Maybe you're not into DW anymore. Maybe you don't want to hear about it until Christmas. (Wouldn't mind if you want off now, but want back on later.) So, yeah. Just poke me so your flist stops getting spammed.

Heh. I did a nose count and I'm at about 125 people in the Crazy (meta) filter and pushing up to 100 in the Squee (D/R ship) filter. My super stringent qualifications to get in them? Crazy: Say you want on it. Squee: Like D/R and say you want on it. (Sometimes I'll automatically add people to them when I friend if it's super obvious, but not always. I don't want to presume.)

Oh, and as I told [livejournal.com profile] featherjean, when you see my username, please think of cornbread.

ETA: Since people are giving histories of their user names, my user name is actually a take off of Mystery Science Theater 3000. And now you know.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Since a lot of people are confused by my username: [livejournal.com profile] principia_coh originates from my first/main character on City of Heroes, Principia. I wanted just plain 'principia,' but it is unfortunately taken by some Russian-speaking person who isn't a paid account and doesn't seem to have posted since... ever. Slightly frustrating that it hasn't been wiped and made available yet, but there it is.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I hate when that happens. You think of the perfect user/community name, and it's taken by someone who created it two years ago and has never used it. Bah.

And then crazy people.

And then I start having flashbacks to the war.

You know, that's pretty much the same for me when I see your name. Although I have one additional step after the war, which is basically "PONY!! EEEEE!"

I just think of Doctor/Rose... or Eggnogg Latte... when I see your name. *Grin*

I don't really have anything odd about mine because it's just my name. *Snicker* Though, before I was born, Mum was sure I was going to be a boy. Apparently, I kicked like a rugby player. She wanted to call me "Andrew".

Well, seeing as my username is a bunch of random syllables I strung together 'cause the one I usually have was taken by someone who posts about once a year....

So, you should probably think of Oregon, land of rain and pine trees.

That or Anne of Green Gables. Her personality and mine are pretty similar...

Strangely enough, I've never thought of cornbread when I've seen your username pop up on my friends list. When I see [livejournal.com profile] mrv3000, I think "Hysterical funniness ahead!"

And for me . . . well, I can't think of anything interesting, so I'll share the story behind my username, which is over ten years old and, as far as I know, still unique on the intrawebs. When I got my first real email account, as a bright-eyed college freshman, I could change it from a boring string of numbers to a name, but I'd only get one chance to make said change. So, I thought long and hard. Because I was a huge X-Files fan at the time, but I wanted a username that wouldn't be dated or embarrassing. So I took two X-Files catchphrases, converted them to acronyms, and voila! [livejournal.com profile] dettiot was born. Which I pronounce det-EE-oat, in case you were wondering.

And if there was ever any doubt just how big a nerd I am, that question's now been answered. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] manticoran is not my first LJ. I had another one, but RL circumstances intervened, and I had to abandon it. I had to come up with a new, yet totally different, username fast. I thought of [livejournal.com profile] manticoran because I liked David Weber's "Honor Harrington" series, and the folks in that SF tale come from the Star Kingdom of Manticore. Also: manticore, although I dislike the picture there.

what is the one thing I should think of when I see your (user)name?

EMO FANGIRL.

When I see your username, I think "squee", because I'm mostly here for the crazy D/R-ness and I like to fangirl vicariously through other people.

I hate other people harshing my squee. I think it's more rewarding to laugh and be entertained than it is to be Serious and Meta in fandom, which is why I liked LOTTL. It made no sense and had the most bizarre messages, but it was hilarious and absurd, and therefore good.

Also, I stalk people lurk. Chronically. Talking to people scares me! So I just read quietly most of the time.

Mwah! And yeah, I get the whole strong aversion to the harshing of the squee thing. Seems some are never happy unless all of fandom is Very Serious and/or squeeing should be squashed because it's squeeing about the wrong thing. *rolls eyes*

I can't imagine wanting off those filters. They keep me entertained at work! (Yes, including the picspams. At least they're work-safe pictures!)

As for me... Hm. Well, looking at my username one could think that "Jean" is my real name, and it's not. It's the American version (or a shortened version) of my middle name, Janina. Online, I think of myself as "feather." I like feathers, and I tend to take seeing them on the ground as a sign of something (what, exactly, depends on the feather and the state it's in). I might be a tad superstitious...

I'm also a hopeless shipper, but that's not uncommon around here. ;)

Ooooo. I wants to be on the Crazy and Squee filters! I LURVE D/R. And I love that D/R is like DR, which is like DR. which is like DOCTOR!

Um...anyways. *hushes self* Cornbread, huh? I will do my best, but I tend to think "Awesome Doctor Whoness Ahoy!"

I lucked out with my username, [livejournal.com profile] frenchroast, in that it was exactly what I wanted, and that it's fairly applicable to me. I was originally "musemuffin," but there were dramah issues (long, complicated story, I'll spare you). So I decided it was best to move to a fresh, un-dramah-filled journal, including a separate one for writing, [livejournal.com profile] ladixon.

So, um, anyways, when you see [livejournal.com profile] frenchroast, think France, b/c I've lived there and speak the language fluently(studied it for 11+ years now, and working on getting a teaching degree), but also think Coffee, b/c I'm addicted. And you can think Alabama if you like, as that's where I'm from, and Writer, b/c that's what I like to do.

And Velociraptor, because they are scary but way cool, and thus, I likes them.

Put anything in front of my nose that has text on it and I will read it, obsessive-compulsive behavior of mine. I'm a Swede so thereof my perhaps odd online times - ie. I tend to miss out on all the fun since it happens when I sleep.

Guess I'll do as most people have; the history of my username is mythology. Cerridwen is the name of a Welsh deity. She is the Welsh version of the Greek Hecate. I'm totally a religion/mythology/history nut. X3

My response to this will be pretty boring. kb91 = my initials, plus the year I got married (and thus became KB instead of KZ. :)) My real life email address is the same except with my first and last name spelled out. (I also have a fandom email that I put on my stories/on my LJ, with my first name and last initial; how creative is that? *g*)

I've never bothered too much about keeping my real name secret online, mainly because it's a very common name and if someone googled it, they'd have to wade through 500,000 responses before they'd get anywhere close to me. *g* (Somewhat frighteningly, googling my name with "fanfic" gets an immediate hit, but I rely on real life people not knowing to do that. ;))

As for what you should think of me when you see my screen name? "Stay at home mom, professional volunteer, ridiculously busy." Yep, that about sums it up. *g*

When you see my user, greenpear you need to know it originally was PearVert.

It's a medieval heraldry joke on how to describe a green pear. But if you look at it too quickly it looks like Pervert.

I quit using it cause way too many people thought I was writing pervert instead of pearvert!

Yeah, I could see why you'd want to change that. :D

Erm. Hum. My username is an old childhood nickname and I've often wanted to change it...but I can't come up with anything better! lol.

Other than that can't think of really what to tell you except the boring stuff. I'm a NorCal college student. A very new Who fan - I watched the DVDs this summer and it stole my soul in a very bad way. lol. I'm having fun getting into a new fandom though!

I'm enjoying your posts though, so thanks for letting me on board!

Man, it really does steal your soul, doesn't it? Takes it and then smushes it, but doesn't give it back!

When you see my name, if you think of nothing else, WON'T YOU PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!?!

No idea how I came across my name- I think I was having a moment (er, a series of moments that hasn't yet stopped) of stunning unoriginality. I heart both D/R and Craziness, which is why I friended you. Er, about me... I'm a grad student studying urban planning and about as boring as boring gets, and occasionally whiny. On the rare occasion I'll be funny, but that's usually an accident. I'm neither tall nor ginger, sadly. :(

I also apparently enjoy the word "er" quite a bit.

Er.

When you see mine? Think of ALIAS back when it was good. Season 1. As that's what it's from.

Mo... M< o > <--- see? I'm clever, right?

And since Donovan (Vaughn's dog) was Rambaldi, and I'm obviously Rambaldi since, HELLO! (see above), then Rambaldi + Donovan + Mo = Ramdonomo. :D

You know, I think I do think of Alias when I see your username. :D

Vaughn's dog was Rambaldi?
