  1. Am off to see a play in a few minutes, so I won't get to chat today. Note to self: try reinstalling AIM because of the crashing every five minute. Isn't there some kind of IM program that works with AIM that's actually better? Called...I forget. Hmm. It's probably some Apple thing that I'm thinking of, and so the Mac geeks will wander by and mock me, won't they?

  2. Have gotten sucked into more of those Nancy Drew games. I bought a 5-game bundle of the first five games. I wouldn't recommend the first game - Secrets Can Kill. It's short, the clues really aren't worked into the story. Wait, did I say story? There really isn't one. And you can tell it was made in 1998 - the graphics and sound aren't all that great. So far my favorite - Secret of Shadow Ranch. Oh, and the 5-game bundle came with a free Nancy Drew book - looks like a newer book. Aww. I might read, just for the hell of it. I'm feeling all Nancy Drew nostalgic lately.

  3. Rose was special! Mwahahahahaha! *RUNS LIKE HELL*

Oh gawd it's been years but I think you're talking about ICQ.

ICQ - OSCAR protocol

Looking below, I think it was Trillian I was thinking of.

Oh Trillian. That's right! Like I said, it's been years and we use something completely different at work.

Are you thinking of Trillian?

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking of Trillian, too. It works fairly well, although I am as yet unclear how to find a group chat room without being specifically invited to it.

You have to invite yourself in.

I've been using it for the last few weeks... finally got sick of AIM. So far I like it... it's pretty non-buggy.

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I second that you probably mean Trillian. But even if you don't, you should try that one. A lot of people like it.

2. I bought a two-pack of those Nancy Drew games and finished them both in 24 hours. They're sort of crack. I think the graphics are....comparatively not wonderful, but they're mostly not bad. There are some moments, though, when the camera will ZOOOM into a set of lifeless eyes, or someone will be wearing a foam gold miner costume that will suddenly make me shriek and have nightmares. (And the puzzles tend to make me simultaneously feel very smart and very stupid).

3. Totally special!

[identity profile] velvet4269.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I love Trillian, but I'm still using the old Trillian 2.0 Pro. Most of the stuff in the newer version is stuff I just don't need, but I love having all my IM stuff in one spot.

Another friend of mine also recommended Pidgin, but I didn't like it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm going to have to try that out.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I think I will play with it today.

2. OMG. Total crack. Really wouldn't recommend the earlier games though. I'm on #2 now and it's so tight as far as doing exact things in the right order that if you don't, you wind up screwed down the line. I think I might ditch it and move on to #3. There was an improvement from #1 to #2, so hopefully it'll get up to the level of the later ones soon.

HA! Yes!

(And the puzzles tend to make me simultaneously feel very smart and very stupid).

That's it *exactly.* Most the stuff you can figure out with a little bit of brain power, to which you feel all "I RULE!!!" But then there are a few other times where... *points to icon*

Oh, no. I bought #4 because it was only 10.00, but it seems like they were still working on the interface because the controls are massively frustrating. Sometimes the "go back" arrow won't appear when you're checking out evidence. I spent forever trying to find that tiny margin where the arrow would appear instead of the spyglass before I hit the text box*. And then I cried.

There are certain types of logic puzzles that I am just crap at. But most of my real head-desk moments are because I just didn't understand what I was supposed to do in the first place. #...12, I think, you're given a word riddle, which I solved, but the game kept saying, "Nope! Better luck next time!" but it wouldn't let me change the answer. Several minutes of frustration later I realized I failed because it was a book of word riddles and I had to turn the page. Oy.

*= I think what I love about video games is that they make you type sentences which, in the real world, sound like crazy talk.

Yes. BAH. And #1 was even worse than #2 and #3.

Awwww.

Totally. :D

If you don't want to install a program, there's Meebo, which is a web-accessible interface to various chat programs. You can sign in for your particular chat client, or if you get a Meebo id, you can then sign in to all your chat clients. I use it, and it's been great.

Ooooooooooooh!

Pidgin! Used to be GAIM. Is very like AIM, interface-wise, only without the ads and the crashing all the time.

[identity profile] fakymcfakerson.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I also use Pidgin. I like it better than Trillian. More stable & uses less RAM, IMO, at least the versions I compared. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I might try Trillian first, and then give this one a shot if it doesn't work. AIM is basically unusable for me as it kicks out after a few minutes while in chat.

There is a website called meebo that links several of the most commone IM programs without you having to download them onto your hard drive (like if you want to chat at work but can't put them on you computer).

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have to check that out sometime.
