If you use an air purifier and swear by it, could you pass along what kind it is?

I've been thinking about this for a while since my bedroom window is right next to the parking lot of the complex. And add to it the bad air quality we've been having lately after the fires, AND the fact that I just got new neighbors - three of them who all chain-smoke out on their patio which is across from mine. Seriously, they're out there all the frickin' time. I went out this morning and the whole front of the place was this haze of cigarette smoke. *GAGS*

You know, I'm sick to death of the smell of smoke right now.

It's slightly noisy, but I actually like it partly for the white noise, which helps me sleep at night. I have asthma and cats, and it keeps the bedroom livable. I spent quite a bit of time huddled in front of it during the fires.

Consumer reports is crazy about this one, which would make me consider it if I were buying a new one now.

I have two Oreck tabletop purifiers, and I swear by them. Now, mine are older models, but from what I can see they are still largely the same. I like mine because with the exception of the charcoal post-filter that needs replacing, like, twice a year, the filters are washable. I just wash them in the sink with some dish soap, rinse them, and they're good to go.

I also like they have different power settings; there's a "quiet clean" setting that, while perfectly effective, is almost silent. And on the high setting, well, it's kinda loud, but it WORKS. They're not cheap, but they're very well made.

I'm finding that I *really* need to get the washable kind of filters. Otherwise I could be spending over $150 a year just for those things.

And holy crap! That wee thing says it cleans 600 sq ft in an hour! Most the other ones - that are way bigger - are talking about cleaning 250 - 400 sq ft. *impressed*
