You know what I think some of it is (beyond the irrational age gap)? Nine in S1 really did NOT come across as someone ready for a sexual relationship. He was so contradictory about his feelings for Rose and seemed to fight (and feel guilty about) his attraction to her. It's not really a good place to start a sexual relationship, so I think I've subconsciously filed it away in my head as something that would have been Bad Things for them at that time. Maybe part of MY ick-squick is because I sensed some of that same sentiment from Nine.
Oh, my personal canon definitely does NOT put any kind of a sexual relationship in S1. And there were very much the things you mentioned going on, like Rose not really completely falling for him until the end of S1 and the Doctor generally being neurotic about it all. But I guess I don't mind it in fic if the author sells it.
But I totally know where you're coming from. There are a few things that I have a Do Not Want about, even if it's just fic. Like Doctor/Doctor. AAAAHHH! (Oh, you just KNOW there will be loads of Ten/Five fic now.)
Ha, guess WHAT? I seem to remember Jacob(what do you mean, which Jacob? There's only one in the context of Doctor Who) is a Six-fan. And thinks he's hot. Unless that was a joke...but no. He is SRS BZNS about Doctor Who. I'd say this fits in very well with his Bizarro-vision look at the show.
