MWAH. My flist is turning into a long line of "You are about to view content that may not be appropriate for minors" LJ cuts. I'm guessing it's because I don't have my age listed in my profile? (I had to click through a "yes, I'm over 18" thing where it said something about avoiding it if I listed my age - I think. I wasn't paying that much attention.)

I suppose I *could* list my age... But this way my flist will be very tidy! ;D

Yeah, I went and put the year in (still kept it as only showing month/day), and the cuts went away. Totally threw me off, though. Why? Because the entry I wanted to look at was A CHRISTMAS GREETING MEME. Yeah, because that's adult content.

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I clicked on a link like that I still had to verify if I was at least fourteen.

[identity profile] earenwe.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think I have my age listed, but I'm too lazy to check even my profile. Wow. In any case, LJ has just opened up a new can of worms for themselves.

But, you're right, boy would that trip down viewing your friends page if you went away. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Because the entry I wanted to look at was A CHRISTMAS GREETING MEME.

Well, you never know! There could have been talk of decking the halls! *wiggles eyebrows*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
How would it know if I'm lying? It's a bit silly and a total CYA thing.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'd either be finished looking at the flist in no time, or it'd take twice as long as I'd be far too curious without clicking each and every one...

[identity profile] littledivinity.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, LJ.

Sometimes it makes my head hurt a little. ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Yeah.

[personal profile] shaela 2007-11-30 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I wish they’d think a little more before they just went and did stuff like this. Honestly, it’s like my school district’s recent decision to block all webmail sites. Never mind that a lot of students email assignments to themselves so they can print them out in the library. Bah. *hugs NetNewsWire*

[identity profile] hyari.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Wait... you're not fifteen years old???!?!!! But don't you ship Doctor/Rose??!?!?!!! I AM CONFUZZLED AND CONFUSED!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think a lot of times they throw out the baby with the bathwater.

SHHHHH! DON'T TELL ANYONE! (It's better to maintain the myth.)

*looks innocent*

(So what was the reasoning behind the weird censorship/cuts? It's a little Victorian-maiden-aunt if it cuts my friend's music meme response, in my opinion.)

You I-D-IOTS!!!

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Now they're treating US like children. I'm a frakkin' adult but I have to play their silly reindeer games.

And they wouldn't even let me list my birthday at October 14, 1066. I had to settle for D-Day...

*eyes you suspiciously* William?

.oO(can't edit, since I do the 'free account' and realized I was thinking of the wrong ruler, even if it fit better w/the whole Dr. Who thing) ;)

That was the first thing I thought when I saw Saxon... Doctor Who.

But i seems you need to use a 20th century birthday. Bwahhhhhh...

This rating thing is fucking annoying. (Does "fucking" need to be flagged?) Really shows who they think their prime userbase is, though. Grrr.

Re: You I-D-IOTS!!!

[identity profile] velvet4269.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. RTD had to do the whole 'Harry Saxon' thing on purpose. "His name is what? You're joking, right?"

Mmhmm.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm flagging this entry so that innocent eyes will be averted from seeing such flithy filth! :)

But we all still stay and put up with it...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're right. It is treating everyone like children.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I finally put in my birthday. Yes the flist was very tidy, but it was annoying.

Re: You I-D-IOTS!!!

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this "Protect the children at all costs" thing has gotten way out of hand. It seems the more they try to "protect" the little darlings, the ruder, and cruder they get. Tell someone they can't do something and they go out of their way to do it anyway...

I'm too lazy to go check, but I think at some point I erased the month and day so it wouldn't show up in birthdays, and put in the year so I'd be counted as a grownup in the stats that consistently say their users are kiddies.

Um. The font in my drop-down list of icons has suddenly changed. Weird.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's to cover their asses as far as content. And if a journal's default setting is "adult" (or whatever their ratings are) it'll cut everything if you don't have your birthday listed in your user profile.

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, is there anything more appealing to someone under that age than being able to read something that isn't "appropriate" for them? All this is doing is earmarking content so that the very people they're trying to protect from it will be able to find it that much more easily. And do they think that having to click a link would actually stop someone who *wasn't* of the appropriate age?

OY VEY!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Totally. It's a very big "WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T PUSH THIS BUTTON!" And of course you push...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I did erase my bday, just because of the flist guilt, but they now have an option to hide it from everyone, even if you have it in there.
