Hmm.

I'm contemplating getting a Wii. *ponders*

[identity profile] boro-girl.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. Maybe one of those Wii fit ones. Should maybe try and get healthy...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been pondering that as well.

[identity profile] boro-girl.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who's fitness level is... well, shite ...I've heard pretty good reports about it being a good way for someone like me to raise the bar.

[identity profile] katesutton.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the Wii Fit looks pretty nifty. I find it hard to do regular exercise because it's so BORING and that looks like fun.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I'm with you. I find exercise incredibly boring. I walk, but it's not always great weather, plus living in the city I hate breathing car exhaust all the time when I'm doing it.

[identity profile] unfolded73.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so funny, we just got Wii Fit YESTERDAY. Only my husband has played with it so far, it does look pretty cool. Combining that addictive reward system of gaming with exercise can't be a bad thing. I may try it later today.

Overall, we like it. My 6 year old can operate it on his own, which is nice. The Wii sports games are fun (and I think have actually improved my son's hand-eye coordination) and Guitar Hero III is fun, of course. (My band is called Tiemtongue, btw.) We also have Lego Star Wars.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh. I've watched a couple of youtube videos of people playing, and it does look like fun.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard that too - they did a radio piece on it on NPR the other day.

[identity profile] boro-girl.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm already checking out prices... Apparently I can save a small fortune by buying from the French Amazon site...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Combining that addictive reward system of gaming with exercise can't be a bad thing.

That's what I'm thinking. :D

My band is called Tiemtongue, btw.

BWAH!!

We also have Lego Star Wars.

Is that any good? If I get it, I'd like to get some actual games to go with it - not just sports stuff.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh.

[identity profile] boro-girl.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Only they have no stock...

Hmm... I have no money but I need to do something about my fitness and weight. Which to choose?

[identity profile] unfolded73.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
My husband and son both like it. The little Lego Star Wars people are unbelievably adorable, I have to say. It seems like mostly just running around and killing stuff and picking up little tokens, but I assume there's more to it that I'm not aware of.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds pretty typical of a lot of games. :D

[identity profile] makesometime.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I loooove my Wii :D I got the WiiFit a month ago and I've lost 8lb. It's fair to say I'm in love with it!

[identity profile] grbggrl.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I was one of those crazy peeps who camped out overnight for one when they were first available....and I LOVE THAT THING. I've had plenty of systems in my life, and in the year and a half I've had this thing I've collected way more games than I ever did in the past. It's just awesome...I could give you a very long list of recs. And the Virtual Console is awesome 'cause you can buy a lot of those really great old games. Plus, they've started putting out Wii Ware titles which are download only and are at most 15 bucks and are total crack.

Seriously, you should get one. They rock.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. Wiiiiii. I've not gotten Wii Fit yet 'cos I've got a gym membership, but it looks like a great exercise option. As would be Dance Dance Revolution.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's impressive!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. I wouldn't mind hearing your list of recs!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard about Dance Dance Revolution, but I can imagine that'd be a calorie burner!

[identity profile] makesometime.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The best thing is that it doesn't feel like work. Earning points and praise from a virtual trainer feels far less strssful than actually going to a gym. I'd highly recommend the whole system :)

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pretty much why I haven't gotten one. That and we have a PS3 and Xbox 360 already. Last thing I need is another gaming system to eat up my money. LOL

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
*wants it a bit more now*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never had a game console (well, there was an Atari in the house when I was a kid) but I'd probably not be so willing if I'd already thrown a lot of money at something.

[identity profile] zoecorkhill.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Get one. And Wii FIt, and the Zelda game, and Mario Kart, and Mario Galaxy...

I might be a little addicted! It's fabulous. Brilliant fun. I have the dancemat game on its way to us at the moment, and plan on getting lego star wars at the weekend :D

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, between the hubby and the kids, the consoles are a given. That Wii Fit looks really fun though. It's definitely something I'd be interested in if I didn't have a brand new 2 yr contract with the gym.

That Lego Star Wars IS really cute. The kids have it for the PS3 and they play it all the time. I'm not sure why, but they seem to prefer the original trilogy as opposed to the complete saga.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooooooh! It does look pretty addicting. :D

[identity profile] kitsune17.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it! Dooooo iiiiitttt!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
There are some school systems that have purchased DDR as a gym class activity, if that's any indication for you.

I'm given to understand the Wii version also incorporates the controllers, so you're getting both upper and lower body at once.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Because your children have discerning tastes? XD

Lego Indiana Jones is due out at the start of June.

I like the sound of that!

So funny, my husband and I were just in Best Buy trying to decide if we should get one. First, there are none to be found anywhere on the Western Hempishere and the wait lists are so long. I really want the Wii Fit but that would mean buying the Wii console, then the Fit board and then the Fit games/excercises. Aaah! But the Wii is one of the best group/team entertainment console out there and the graphics are amazing!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know - you really would be shelling out quite a bit of money for the whole thing. I might do the WiiFit later or something, because I think Lego Star Wars is calling my name first. :D

The actual consoles are still hard to get? Wow, I'd have thought it would have died down since it's been out for about 6 months now.

[identity profile] shionthekid.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I lurk a good deal around here, but if there's one thing I know about it's video games, so. A Wii is an especially good choice if you're not into games in any commonplace manner; many of the games released are marketed toward the casual user, and those made by Nintendo are pretty good, too. I'm more hard-core as such, but currently the system is populated with more average fare that's fun and easy to pick up in terms of controls.

My mom actually played Wii Sports, which is packaged with the Wii, and the last game she played was Pong. She wants to play Wii Fit, too, the yoga instructor and the use of your user-created Mii reeling her in.

It's a great system, though I don't know about its availability, as I had to stake out about six different stores for a week to acquire mine a year-and-a-half ago. I thought it had gotten better by now, but Wii Fit is encouraging the masses to buy again.

Hope you don't mind if I add you :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not really a hard-core gamer by any means. I've got a few casual PC games that I like, and I have done a FPS or two. So the videos I've seen appeal to me - the controls look easy, and better yet, it gets you off your butt. :D

And I didn't realize it had availability problems. But you're probably right about the WiiFit thing. Actually, what made me interested in it at first was a radio piece NPR did on the WiiFit a little bit ago.

And nope, don't mind at all. :)

The consoles are hard to get, but not impossible. I think if you really wanted one and maybe willing to wait a little bit, you would have no trouble.

All in all, I think the Wii will be worth it in the long run. :D
