HMPH.

I need a new car. I'm not really all that attached to my current car (although I *just* got it smogged and paid my registration last week), it's just I reeeeaaally hate dealing with cars. I need to get in them and they need to go. It's a relationship out of necessity.

My dad has been wanting me to get a new car for a couple of years now, and I just dangled a "help me? *cute eyes*" email in front of him. Hope that works. So most likely I'll have a new car in the next several days, one way or another. Maybe one of those Honda Fits. They're cute. And they go.

I recommend getting something with a kick-ass 100,000 mile warranty so that if it doesn't go, you can bring it to the dealer and whine and then they have to fix it and you don't pay anything except maybe a small deductible around $100. My current car's warranty is up at $70,000 miles and I'm already vaguely planning a trade-in, in about a year or something.

May I recommend at least test driving a Hyundai Elantra or...um...the level down from that...Aspire? May not be your kind of thing, but might be worth taking a look at.

I have one, [livejournal.com profile] mtgat and her hubby have one of each, [livejournal.com profile] wiliqueen has the latter...and they are reliable, inexpensive, and HANDLE really beautifully. (Mine has also stood up well to my tendency to drive into things.)

Ooh, I like the sound of that!

Oh, thanks for the rec!! I'll definitely check those out. You said the magic word: inexpensive. :D

(And good to know it's got some crash resistence as well.)

Yeah, I have a Hyundai Accent, it's the same style as the Honda Fit/Toyota Yaris/Ford Focus but it's the cheapest of all of them (the Honda is the most expensive). Which is why I got it, but it's small and cute and does handle really nicely. I've only had mine a year now but so far, no complaints!

Aww, your poor car! I hate dealing with cars, too, which explains why I spent so many years driving a car the same age as me. Heh.

I feel obliged to throw in a rec for Toyotas (either the Yaris or the Corolla). I have a Corolla and love it -- completely headache-free. But would probably have bought a Yaris if they'd had them back when I was shopping for a new car.

Ooh, good to hear!!

Ooh, I'll have to look at those too!

Accent. LOVE IT AS PIE. Also, my CarMax experience was a happy one, and they have a kickass website. They'll transfer a specific car you like between locations, too.

CarMax, eh? Gonna check that out!

My son has a Honda Fit, and he gets about 33 mpg driving between Anaheim and Irvine--half freeway, half surface streets. So there's that to consider.

That sounds great!

Wow. Remember when the words "Hyundai" and "reliable" did not go together in the American mind? But they have stayed and have gotten better. Very interesting... ;-)

[identity profile] amilyn.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
The time I remember when "Hyundai" and "reliable" didn't go together was when they were pretty much brand new to the country and I didn't know anyone with one and was waiting for the first few years' worth to be used and tested and to age to let us know what kind of reliable they were or might be. By the time they'd been around for 5-7 years (which is about what I consider the test run for a new vehicle from any company), it was clear they were good as you were hard-pressed to find one used; people were KEEPING them...and they weren't ending up in junk yards either.

So...I considered that a good sign. :-)

I *just* got it smogged and paid my registration last week

Oh...oh dear...*sporfle*

I have been reading far, far too much Ten/Rose and Ten II/Rose smut.

I read: I *just* got it smogged as: "I just got snogged"

and I thought: "wow, that's some service they provide at the DMV!"

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
HA! You know, maybe it would have helped.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
mmmm.

Sign me up for a snog inspection but only if Chris from Learners is giving them :D

Here ... read how Sci-Fi saves Shakespeare (much thanks to a beloved Doctor and some bald dude), and feel better :)
