(no subject)

  • New icon by [livejournal.com profile] azarsuerte who made it just for me! HEE!! *PETS THREE AND SARAH JANE*

  • Free tall cup of coffee at Starbucks on Nov. 4 if you vote. I didn't get my sticker since I voted by mail, so I'm damn well going to get a coffee!

  • Speaking of politics, I had lunch with my parents yesterday. I had no idea my Dad was that pissed at Bush. Now these are people who have voted the Republican party line probably all their lives. One of my earliest memories is asking them to whisper who they voted for in my ear. I remember they both said Ford - you know, after Watergate. I'm sure they voted for Nixon prior to that. So long history there.

Yesterday my Dad was MAD. He was talking about Bush raping America and so on. I've never heard him use words like that when it's come to politics before. He's also fairly disgusted by the choice of Sarah Palin for the ticket, saying she's in no way ready for the national stage.

They already voted and it went to Obama. You know, a Democrat. Now I think I've seen everything. :D

  • My Mom turned up with info on this guy (I mentioned a week or so ago) who's running against that woman who stuck her foot in her mouth about Obama having anti-American views. Turns out he's the son of my Mom's 1st cousin. But a strange generational thing going on since this Elwyn person is about the same age as my Mom, so her cousin was her Dad's age... *points arrows all over the place* Long story short (too late), he's my 2nd cousin. :D

Hee, Three and Sarah Jane are full of yay! :D

Also, good on your parents!

And now you're practically famous! XD

They totally are. :D Also I think I prefer her with Three instead of Four. Of course that might be simply because I like Three better than Four. :D

Also, good on your parents!

I'd been getting the feeling they were headed that way, but I had no idea just how angry they are about it all.

And now you're practically famous! XD

Maybe he'll eventually be involved in some sort of scandal! Oooh! It's one thing to say there's a US Congressman in the family, but another to say "you know that Congressman that..." :D

XD That would be kind of oddly awesome.

Now I feel a need or some famous relatives.

*Considers* My dad is giving a Kuwaiti Princess private tuition, does that count as anything good? (Of course, my dad has a long and weird career path, including working with the Bin Laden family and dodgy business ventures that would make Pete Tyler proud.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds interesting! Way more interesting than just someone running for the House! :D

There are offices in my home town that you can hire by the hour and, for a bit extra, you can have women sitting around and typing/carrying files/looking busy. I honestly had no idea this sort of service was available until a couple of years ago.

(Fortunately my dad decided not to bother with the particular venture that required fake offices but the very fact that he got a price quote says enough!)

KINKY! Sorry, couldn't resist.

FREE STARBUCKS? SWEET!

I think your parents are a good indication of how betrayed a lot of people feel. It's taken a long time, but I think we may just be seeing the beginning of the end of the Republican party as we know it. The question is, will people eventually forget about these trespasses onto the core values of the Republican platform or are the Palin-like elements going to become even stronger and drive away the "real" Republicans for good. And does that mean there will be a viable third party in the coming years, or will the GOP fizzle out while a new conservative party is formed.

I think politics is going to get very interesting in the next few years. Well, more interesting than usual, at least.

About your cousin - Hee! I have generational issues in my family as well. Makes for confusing family trees, doesn't it? :D

I keep wondering about this - it should be interesting to see. They were able to successfully reorganize a decade or so ago when they were floundering, but this rift seems bigger for some reason. The problem is that there really are 2 parties in the Republican party (the McCains of the world and the Palins of the world) - but they can't split because then they'd have no chance to win anything.

The Conservatives hate the Moderates for what they see is abandoning their values, while the Moderates cringe every time the Conservatives have a call-to-arms on something the majority of the US doesn't believe in. And both factions feel like the other has a stranglehold on the party.

It really does. :D And my Mom's family is HUGE. Her parents both had tons of siblings, some of whom stayed in Holland. She doesn't even know all her cousins.

It's funny - my parents visited Alaska last year and were at some National Park. They started talking to a Ranger and happened to notice his name tag. Another Tinklenberg! Turned out he and my Mom were first cousins as well. Days like this I swear I'm related to half the country.

You know, we probably are considering we look alike. :D

Sweet icon!

Not surprised your parents feel that way. We'll have to wait and see how it goes on Tuesday (crosses fingers).

Go Elwyn!!

Sweet icon!

It makes me happy. :)

Yeah. If the polls are any indication, seems like they're not the only ones who normally vote down the line but are flopping this year.

Go Elwyn!!

:D

Wait, you get a sticker if you vote at a voting booth? Huh. Sudden;y this whole vote-by-mail thing has a flaw...

Maybe they could just include a little sticker with the ballot when they mail it out....anyways.

Good on your parents! It's nice to see that even those who hold to the party line can see sense. \o/

...man, I always miss your Halloween layout when it goes away. *pout*

You do get a sticker! Googled it... (http://flickr.com/photos/voidmstr/291741554/)

Or something! I miss not getting a sticker. Because I am 5.

They have firmly-held beliefs, but they're also very logical people, willing to look at something from different angles instead of simply sticking in one spot.

Awwww. :D

Well, see, since Oregon is all vote-by-mail, I've never seen these stickers before (well, maybe when I was, what, twelve? But I didn't care about them then)! You have introdued in me a new desire for stickers when I vote by mail! Because I'm five as wel. :D

,i>They have firmly-held beliefs, but they're also very logical people, willing to look at something from different angles instead of simply sticking in one spot.

That's the best! Unlike some people I know...*sigh*

That's really pretty nifty about your parents. I know a lot of people who fill that way.

The Starbucks thing is very nifty though I don't drink coffee so...

It's very sad really.

You really only can be expected to tow the line for so long if things are going bad.

Aww, shame! Too bad you couldn't get tea instead or something.

One of my grandfathers has considered voting for Obama. I don't think he will, but he actually listened to the arguments my stepfather made for Obama vs. McCain and agreed with some of them, which is so much more than I'd have *ever* expected from any of my grandparents, who are all staunchly conservative Republicans. To have him actually consider Obama (especially after hearing him use the "n-word" all his life) is an astounding (and encouraging) leap.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good step forward. :)
