(no subject)

I watched the mini of Pride & Prejudice today. What I've learned about England from this:
  1. Everyone has hounds.

  2. Everyone lives in a giant mansion even if they're "poor" (unless they live in London.)

  3. No one has a job (unless they live in London.)

  4. You can go up to any random house (or mansion as it were) and ask to take a tour without anyone batting an eye. (Must keep this one in mind if I ever visit.)

  5. Crying is an odd female condition that men find distressing, but fortunately it can be cured with a glass of wine or a doctor. Sometimes both.

I think #3 always bothered me the most.

It's a great life! Everyone just sits around and reads books! And writes letters. And occasionally shoots a duck, just for something different.

I love P&P. =]

I own both the VHS tapes and the DVDs. *coughs* :D

Haha, nice.

You kill me. Also, I wanna watch that again. Thanks!

Please, crying is weird, unless it's me crying. Also, I get distressed at bra talk, uterus talk (kill the inner woman!)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good one to watch every once in a while!

Man, if you lived in P&P times you'd be constantly liquored up and being seen by doctors. :D

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is!

There are advantages and disadvantages to every age. The constant liquoring up and being seen by Doctors or the right to vote. Hmm...

My personal favorite is the world on the brink of disaster at everything. Mr. Bingley coming to town? OMG. Call the press corps. Mr. Bingley is leaving town?? OMG! THE WORLD IS ENDING.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Uh huh! :D You start to think that jobs would actually be good for these people.

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly wouldn't mind being seen to by a Doctor.
*cough*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
*snickers*

[identity profile] frenchroast.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
LOL--this something that really should be done. I mean, I know the Doctor can't visit fictional past, but if he could hang with Agatha Christie, why not Jane Austen?

Everyone has hounds.

Quite right, too.

How about a Doctor with a glass of wine?

And I love this movie. I actually stole it from my best friend. >:D

That could be dangerous - next thing you know he's wearing a tie on his head, not giving a shit about the fact that you're a second away from death by robot.

Ha!

*loves P&P*

And everyone speaks in compound run-on sentences that I would sell my first born to have said that I thought of them :)

Damnit, everyone else has already made the necessary doctor/Doctor jokes. I'm too slow! XD

Also, I have never seen any version of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen makes me want to hit things. Usually myself, but sometimes the book/TV.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Austen. Everyone I know just loves her books.

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
XD YAY SOMEONE ELSE. Actually, my entire family hates them, which makes me happy. And my sister's an English student and my mum's a fan of good quality literature.

You are too slow! And never seen anything?? I'll admit I really can't stand Sense & Sensibility - whatever version. (David Morrissey creeped me the hell out in it, but he redeemed himself to me in The Next Doctor.) But I do like P&P and Emma.

Actually... I don't think I've ever actually read any of her books. Not sure why since I read just about everything else on the planet when in high school.

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I just have no interest in what Jane Austen writes about. It just seems so... frivolous. I know it's meant to be satire, but it doesn't seem at all entertaining to me. And the style of writing is just boring.

I've attempted to read Pride and Prejudice and we had to read Persuasion in
English class and DEAR GOD did I ever want to hurt someone by a few chapters in.

Only if you were rich. And when they say they're poor they mean less rich than others.

And 3... they're gentlemen. Jobs are for the lower classes. :D

Its the best miniseries ever.

[identity profile] roseredathena.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
omg, have you seen the Mormon version of P&P? So adorable!!

And when they say they're poor they mean less rich than others.

Ah, so that's it! :D
