I watched the mini of Pride & Prejudice today. What I've learned about England from this:

Everyone has hounds.
Everyone lives in a giant mansion even if they're "poor" (unless they live in London.)
No one has a job (unless they live in London.)
You can go up to any random house (or mansion as it were) and ask to take a tour without anyone batting an eye. (Must keep this one in mind if I ever visit.)
Crying is an odd female condition that men find distressing, but fortunately it can be cured with a glass of wine or a doctor. Sometimes both.

I think #3 always bothered me the most.

It's a great life! Everyone just sits around and reads books! And writes letters. And occasionally shoots a duck, just for something different.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every age. The constant liquoring up and being seen by Doctors or the right to vote. Hmm...

My personal favorite is the world on the brink of disaster at everything. Mr. Bingley coming to town? OMG. Call the press corps. Mr. Bingley is leaving town?? OMG! THE WORLD IS ENDING.

Uh huh! :D You start to think that jobs would actually be good for these people.

I certainly wouldn't mind being seen to by a Doctor.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Austen. Everyone I know just loves her books.

XD YAY SOMEONE ELSE. Actually, my entire family hates them, which makes me happy. And my sister's an English student and my mum's a fan of good quality literature.

You are too slow! And never seen anything?? I'll admit I really can't stand Sense & Sensibility - whatever version. (David Morrissey creeped me the hell out in it, but he redeemed himself to me in The Next Doctor.) But I do like P&P and Emma.

Actually... I don't think I've ever actually read any of her books. Not sure why since I read just about everything else on the planet when in high school.

I just have no interest in what Jane Austen writes about. It just seems so... frivolous. I know it's meant to be satire, but it doesn't seem at all entertaining to me. And the style of writing is just boring.

I've attempted to read Pride and Prejudice and we had to read Persuasion in
English class and DEAR GOD did I ever want to hurt someone by a few chapters in.

Only if you were rich. And when they say they're poor they mean less rich than others.

And 3... they're gentlemen. Jobs are for the lower classes. :D
