Game recs?

I am geek! Hear me type!

So I have this love of puzzle-type computer games (but not role-playing games). MYST-style games . I've played all three of those and just finished Neverhood (Shut up! So what if it's for kids!) And I wanna play another puzzle game.

Does anyone have any recommendations for this type of a game?

Oooh, have you played any of the Monkey Island games?? Not exactly like Myst, but sooo funny and clever.

Oh, I forgot to mention those! Yeah - I have them all. *g* And they are incredibly funny! Just kills me whenever someone calls Guybrush by his wife's last name in the 4th one. *snicker*

I haven't played those in a while, but I still know the answers to the puzzles, so it's not as much fun as playing for the first time. I guess that's the downside to these types of games.

Oooh, I only have the forth, and *cough*acoupleIdownloaded*cough*. HAH! They're brilliant. And I always forget the how that thing you use in the forth game to get the directions to the badguy in the swamp works...

And figuring out how to fight monkey style is still so much fun...

Oh right! Where you meet your future self? *g*

MONKEY KOMBAT!!!

Yes!! I always blow up the time/space continuum just for the heck of it... :D

MONKEY KOMBAT!!!

EEK!

Although, I thought the last fight was a bit disappointing... But I guess it would have been too easy just to beat him...

Ha! Me too. In the Neverhood game I just finished, there was this big huge drain with *huge* signs pointed at it saying things like "Don't jump in!" "You will die!" "Don't go here!"

So what do I do? I jump. And of course I died. *g*

Reminds me of at the first part of Monkey 4, if you try to make Guybrush jump off the cliff, he says something like "Goodbye, cruel adventure game!! Eh...forget it." *snicker*

I don't remember then ending whatsoever. Obviously it made a big impression on me.

Oh yeah. That reversed psychology thing works every freaking time.

BWAHAHA! Oh yes... And the Forrest Gump thing... (which has nothing to do with this subject, but whatever...)

Hmm, well, I don't wanna spoil for people who hasn't tried it... *disregards the fact that she cheated and checked how to do it*

*snicker* Yup.

And the Forrest Gump thing...

I don't specifically remember the Forrest Gump thing. I do remember all the Lucas Arts references though. HA!

*disregards the fact that she cheated and checked how to do it*

That's one thing I didn't (but I guess I did) like. The game came with a walkthrough! Too easy to look things up!

Hee!

It's on that island where Guybrush has to prove his innocence of the heinous crime committed before he can leave, and while he's running around doing that there's a bench he can sit on and get Forrest Gump joke(s) from.

The game came with a walkthrough? Or do you mean there were walkthroughs around? Because I ain't got no walkthrough...

And yeah, when you know that the solution is lying around, you don't try as hard to solve a problem...

Holy cow! I never did that! I'm trying to think of where a bench even is. By the fountain?

Well, my box came with a little walkthrough booklet inside. "Prima's Official Hint Book - Quick-Path Walkthrough of Entire Game." *WAY* too easy to cheat. And of course I looked! *g* It even had an insult guide.

And yeah, when you know that the solution is lying around, you don't try as hard to solve a problem...

Yep. I just downloaded the demo of the new MYST game: Uru. I think I love that feeling of being frustrated but then finding the solution just as I'm banging my head against something. *g*

Hmmmm... No, I don't think it's next to the fountain... It's right next to the ship I think, when you go into the frame there, you can walk up a level using a stair and there's a bench there, sorta in the background. Can't recall exactly where myself...

Huh! Mine didn't have that! I mean, that's gotta be pretty hard to miss... No, figured the insults out all on my own (*something* I didn't cheat with...) *looks proudish*

Myst is that game where you play from 1st persons POV, right? Never really got into that, only tried one, as I recall I got seasick because my mouse spun a bit too fast *G*

Hmm. Will have to go look.

Woo!

Yeah, that's one thing they've never been able to do right. And this new game is no exception. The just can't get the POV and the controls right. It really is enough to make you sea sick.

*nods* Yup. Not very nice. Was in the middle of a "what the *hell* am I supposed to be doing here?" moment when I went all "whoa. is the room moving?"

Weird. I could have sworn someone posted something in here about Uru...

And since I love to hear myself type, hated the Uru controls but just love the ambiance/graphics of the game. Like all the MYST games, it gave me the chills. It's slightly on the creepy side but it's this unidentified creepy. Keeps you unbalanced.

You know, I read this post and took it in and everything last week yet somehow completely forgot to say anything.

Grim Fandango. For the love of... of... everyone in the whole wide world including yourself, get Grim Fandango. :) It's by LucasArts so you know it's going to be fantastic and the sense of humour is roughy the same as Monkey Island, but as a story it's much darker and more serious - in a VERY GOOD WAY. I also found it much harder, but possibly I just wasn't thinking. Don't use a walkthrough/hints page if you can possibly avoid it, because that ruins things significantly... sorry, I'm rambling.

Basically it's all to do with the Land of the Dead and people being cheated out of their rightful afterlives and stuff. Can't say much more without spoiling it - part of the genius is the way the story just unfolds in front of you. It's also very involving and kind of spooky - there were a few bits while playing (cutscenes, usually) where I really jumped or got shivers because of the way the story was going and so on.

This is the part where you tell me you've already played it and thought it sucked, right? ;)

I do that *so* much.

NO! I have it and love it! Day of the Dead. Film Noir. What's not to love?

You know, I haven't played it in a couple of years. I probably don't remember all the solutions anymore. That would probably be a good one to reinstall on my computer!

Yes! It was so well done!

Thanks for mentioning it! Like I said, I do have it. But I have so many cds/DVDs laying around I would have never thought of it!
