I'm sort of at a loss of what to post. 2 hours passed last night. A lot happened but then again they're all sort of in the same place as at the beginning of the 2 hours. Okay, not exactly true, but Lost has mastered the art of running in place so as not to tell the story too quickly. I'm ready for this show to be over. Not because I wasn't entertained, but...this show needs to wrap up. It's got a life.

So the people on the island are skipping around through time. I sort of wondered if Jacob and the mystery whispering people were somehow out of phase with the rest of reality. And now with this time stuff, I'm thinking that they are. But maybe they can control it to some extent. Actually, I wonder if Jacob is actually Lock or someone.

And back on dry land, some drama involving Ben and Sun and...well, all of them. Hurley's going to jail for murders Sayid committed, which I'm sure will just be a small side-step before they all try to get back to the island. The stuff on the mainland is the running-in-place stuff I was talking about. There's all this crafted drama (that really has nothing to do with the overall island mystery) just so that they don't all meet up and 5 minutes later head off in a boat.

Oh, and Desmond remains awesome.

I hadn't seen the show in two or three seasons, except for a few eps here and there.

Confused doesn't even cover it.

I don't watch Lost, but your icon describes how I feel about BSG most of the time.

Someone on DWF described this phenomenon as "plot sudoku".

This is my problem with it. I don't think it needs a season 6. I think they should wrap it with the end of this season.

You what disapponted me the most? The fact that the Sayid/Hurley buddy cop team ended so soon. I'm hoping Sayid's going to break him out of jail just so the band can get back together.

And there was this gem:
"What is it?"
"It's a compass."
"What does it do?"
"It's points north!"

I LOLed at it. And I'm digging mercany (is that the correct word to use?) Sun. That's righ! You avenge your (better not be) dead husband!

And Kate? I'd believe dream!ghost!Claire over Ben any day. So, don't go back to the island.

Yeah, still loving this show.

It did feel all unnessecarily drawn out. Most of the time I was about 5 seconds ahead of the story. Guessed Marvin Candle (then I was sort of spoiled I knew there would be someone surprising so as soon as I saw a Asian woman and they hid him I got it. Same with Daniel, there was a video they showed at ComicCon that's on the net with him videotaping Marvin), guessed the old lady as being connected to Desmond, etc

I just sat back and enjoyed it for the comedy. Loved Hurley's mom "why is there a dead pakistani on my couch!" and her reaction to him telling the truth, aw!

I hated Sun though, I'm not the best Kate fan, but Jack totally was responsible for Kate managing to be on the Helicopter (as much as I hate Jack, I'll give him that) so she's not responsible for not being able to save Jin. and yet Sun was totally emotionally blackmailing her sublimingly to do what she wanted her to!

Oh, and Locke's so not dead!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't even imagine picking it up now if you haven't been watching. It's confusing enough as it is. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I love that term. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be all for that. I still can't believe that there is going to be a S6.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that the Sayid/Hurley buddy cop team ended so soon.

They do make a great duo. :D

I LOLed at it. And I'm digging mercany (is that the correct word to use?) Sun. That's righ! You avenge your (better not be) dead husband!

I think mercenary is only if there's money involved. She is ruthless though.

And Kate? I'd believe dream!ghost!Claire over Ben any day. So, don't go back to the island.

That should be interesting to see how they get Kate on board.

I didn't know Marvin and Daniel were coming. Daniel turning up was intriguing, but now that I know the time thing it's not really a mystery anymore.

I just sat back and enjoyed it for the comedy. Loved Hurley's mom "why is there a dead pakistani on my couch!" and her reaction to him telling the truth, aw!

His parents did bring the comic relief. :D

Sun was totally emotionally manipulating Kate there. I have to wonder to what end? It's not like Kate had been connected to Ben, so not sure how using Kate would help Sun get to Ben.

Oh, and Locke's so not dead!

Nope.

I've read someone thinks it's to get to Jack, who she does blame for Jin's death, and she must blame Ben as well.

I was also a bit put out by the violence in this ep, I didn't like that frogurt guy but he dies very violently and I didn't like that, and that no one seemed to help any of those hit, except Julliet at the last minute. And that bit with her hand seemed overkill for the situation, considering how army like they seemed, you think they would have noticed that neither Sawyer or Julliet was armed...pardon the double pun.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I forgot about Neal. Although the second any time an islander you've never seen before suddenly gets a speaking role, you know they're dead. Heh.

[identity profile] taibhrigh.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't either. I'm tired of being dragged along now. At first it was okay because I thought they would start tying things together and start moving us along faster but that never happened.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still fairly entertained while watching the episodes, even if not much happens. But the second it gets tedious, I'm out of there. I can always get the answers later after it ends.

[identity profile] taibhrigh.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I may just DVR the rest of the season and watch it all at once. No commercials, no wait.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's tempting.

Hell yeah! I was very disappointed with the lack of Desmond in those episodes. But if the previews are anything to go by, it looks like we'll definitely be getting more of him soon. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He seems to be the key to everything, which I like. Just as long as he and Penny don't die! *shakes fist*

Back when I really loved Lost - the first season (and the second as well) - it was less about plot and more about character. And I think that's what the problem has become. They have become soooo obsessively focused on this massive complicated to the point of making no sense plot, and the need to drive it forward with intense action every single episode. And the problem is, you can't maintain that momentum and ALSO have a show that lasts for years. The only answer is to create ridiculous problems that end up making the show into a Rube Goldberg machine. You end up with problems and confrontations that end up having no real long-term impact on the story in constant attempts to stall.

What the show needs to do is go back to its roots - a group of very interesting people, thrown together, and exploring how they interact and survive in these circumstances.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're absolutely right.

In the beginning each episode focused on one person and their story while weaving it through the island story. It was a very interesting way of storytelling. But they've really lost all that now - focusing just on the island mystery plot. Which would be fine if they didn't drag it out.

[identity profile] memento1.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You said it. Running in place is exactly what it's doing. I was entertained by certain lines and scenes and stuff but at the end of the two hours I was just like "...did anything at all of consequence happen?"

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I still can't believe there's going to be another season after this one. Which means we'll probably be seeing a lot of this running in place.

And there was this gem:
"What is it?"
"It's a compass."
"What does it do?"
"It's points north!"

I definitely called that last line before Richard said it. I was surprisingly good at quoting the characters before they said the line last night (for me).

And Kate? I'd believe dream!ghost!Claire over Ben any day.

I'd be a very bad Lostie because I always find myself believing Benry. I'll be telling them not to listen to him while I listen to him myself. Like on going back to the island. But that might just be because I don't want Charlotte to die (and yes, I know, I'm the only person who doesn't want Charlotte to die). Plus it was the lady who I think we've seen before and who might be Dan's mum who told Benry about the 70 hours thing, and I think I trust her.

P.S. Please excuse the formatting if it's looking wonky. I don't know why it is.

I'm not exactly sure who to believe. Dream!ghost!Claire could be something other than Claire after all. But Ben doesn't seem very truthful either.
