I went to Disneyland today.

This year's theme is "celebration," and so the lamp arrangements are upside down party hats. The entrance Mickey was also colorful. I meant to take a picture later, but forgot.

My plan was to do as much as I could, which meant Space Mountain first off! At this point not many people were wearing rain ponchos yet. I was, of course, because I am COOL. It seemed like a good day to go to Disneyland - it was raining so not a lot of people around. The plan was to blaze through the whole park, and nothing could possibly put a damper on that, right?
I didn't count on the fact that the allergy pill I'd taken had made me really susceptible to dizziness. BLERG. And I had to pick SPACE MOUNTAIN first. Double BLERG.

I found shelter and a bottle of water. (Still blerg.) You can't see it from the picture (even on the bigger original size) but it's pouring rain there.

I escaped to the castle where they now have the upstairs open to walk through again. It recently opened after being closed for about 8 years. Inside are dioramas with slight animation. You walk through it - it's not a ride.

Oooooh, wand trails.

They've designed it rather well - the windows look like castle windows instead of just box windows. I kind of remember them being box windows before, but don't quote me on that.

Still inside the castle, walking down. And the castle is leaking. Drip drip drip...

Look out! It's a dude in tights stealing three British children!

Disney nudity! Or the Peter Pan mermaids. (I only could get this shot because the car had stopped.)

In the debate that rages between which is better - Disneyland or Disney World - I've got 2 words for you: Mr. Toad. Pthththththt!

Semper Absurda and Toadi Acceleratio. HEH!

If I ever make it to London, I will fully expect the experience to be like this ride. Which is a bit daunting considering you wind up in hell. (Hopefully the experience won't be with nausea, which I was still having and which isn't fun in the hot sauna of the underworld.)

If I'd realized how blurry this pic was, I'd have taken it again. That is a stained glass toad lamp sitting on the Mr. Toad ride control panel, and is quite possibly one of the most awesome things I've ever seen in the park.

I thought about riding the carousel after Toad, but...those things go round and round. Ick. So I went to the Tiki Room.

And proceeded...

to take...

pictures of...

everything...

in the...

waiting area.

I was sort of hungry and so had something fairly bland and then hopped on the train. Still wet with patchy sun.

From the train looking down on the inside of the Splash Mountain ride. It's a shame I didn't go on it since I had the poncho and everything.

What's that down in the bushes? A moose? Egads!

Small World was closed so they could take down the Christmas stuff, but THAT IS A BEAR, GODDAMIT.

This thing cracked me up. It was HUGE. It's the kind of thing you don't want to meet in a dark alley.

And finally I splurged and got myself this big tea pack. "Wonderland Tea" with 12 different kinds of tea. It's good too - I'm drinking the "Mad Tea Party Blend" right now (a black apricot tea) and it's quite yummy.
So anyway, I finally left the park around 1 p.m., giving up on feeling decent. (When Mr. Toad gets to you, you may as well give up and pack it in.) I'm still glad I went though. :)

The new footage at Soarin' is an improvement, although I imagine the footage meant a bit more to people attending California Adventure.
The best part? The new film in the Canada pavilion at Epcot, featuring Martin Short. AND BEARS.

It's a vastly better Pooh ride than what's over here, from what I've heard. If they replaced Toad with the Pooh that's here, which is sort of a weak ride, I'd be cranky.
And they still haven't rethemed Haunted Mansion, although having just come back from WDW I can verify that they've added new effects.
Really? It's still Christmas? The Haunted Mansion was closed today to take down that stuff, but I have been on it after they've revamped it. The new effects here included a revamp of the attic scene.

I'd love to see that. Soarin' is one of my favorite rides even though I've seen it so many times. But different footage would be interesting.

No, although the Christmas lights are still up inside Toy Story Mania; they were reportedly going to redo the entire Mansion in a Nightmare Before Christmas motif.
But different footage would be interesting.
The new footage at Epcot is footage taken from California Adventure; I don't think it's changed since then.
The car-and-stunts show that originated at Disneyland Paris is pretty fun.
Basically, you need to get out to WDW at least once. Although if negotiations come through, you might want to hold off a few years: Disney's started negotiations with several new countries to finally finish out Epcot. Countries reportedly in talks include Australia, Austria, Russia, Spain, and Brazil.
From a purely what-could-they-do-with-that-country perspective, Spain = tapas restaurant and Brazil = churrascaria. The latter would lend itself particularly well to character meals.

Okay, that would be very cool. Hmmm. I do have a milestone birthday in a few years...

I'm also really excited to see the new Castle dioramas. Sleeping Beauty was my favorite Disney movie when I was a kid and I loved the old castle, so I'm excited that they've reopened it.

I found it in the coffee shop on Main Street. Not the bakery that sells coffee - the store on the opposite side of the street that has kitchen stuff.

It was really neat. I don't remember the old very well, but this was really pretty. The kids that were in there were really liking it too.

The rain reached us today too. *glees* Sorry 'bout the naseua though, hon.

Thanks. I was mostly cranky with myself.

I haven't been to WDW in a criminally long time, and I've never been to Disneyland. I neeeeeed to go.

You do need to go to one of them!

And I didn't know the castle had opened for a walk through thing. I'll totally check that out.
The huge Mickey thing, I have been eyeing that for the longest time, and debating on buying it. I dunno? It's just squishy and adorable.

The walk though is really short, but worth a quick look. Unfortunately you can't see out of the castle, which would have been cool.
And the Mickey thing... Well, I do own a round Eeyore. :D

I REJECT YOUR ASSERTION. THAT IS NOT A BEAR.
This thing cracked me up. It was HUGE. It's the kind of thing you don't want to meet in a dark alley.
WTF. I can't make up my mind whether I like it or want to run away from it.
And now I want to live near there, just so I can go! I've been to the one in Paris, but that was a school trip so I spent one evening over exaggerating a headache to get out of going to the IT seminar the next morning. Was still fun though.
Sucks that you weren't feeling so great though *squishes*

I'd love to visit the Paris one someday.

Thanks. It kinda sucks because that'll probably be the last Disneyland trip for a while.

PEH. If you go to Paris, you also have to come to London. YOU MIGHT AS WELL. And then I can HUNT YOU DOWN.
In a totally non threatening manner, of course.

I've never been to DL, only Disneyworld, but it would still be awesome. Question, in the Tiki Room, did they redo it with that bird from Lion King or is it still the original? Because I miss the original Tiki Room.

Of course, that didn't stop them from redoing the Treehouse or the Submarines.

You mean they didn’t re-extend the Year of a Million Dreams again? Strange. Oh well. Yay Party Hats! Was there cake too?

Oops. :X

YES MAGIC DISNEY RAIN! Do you think it would rain on March 11? Probably not. Oh well.

OMG I’M SO HAPPY! I KNEW I HADN’T IMAGINATED THAT! I swear people didn’t believe me that it didn’t use to be there but I KNEW.
Drip drip drip...
Drip drip drop little April showers…
Look out! It's a dude in tights stealing three British children!
But he’s mythical and totally adorable so it’s okay!
Also I have a really great picture of the rest of that mural. Have I shown you it?

Dude- toadally.
*snerk*
If I ever make it to London, I will fully expect the experience to be like this ride.
Complete agree. That’s London for you. The only way that ride could be any more accurate would be if there was a little blue police box tucked away in the background on a corner.
but THAT IS A BEAR, GODDAMIT.
Of course it is. What idiot is arguing with you about that?
And finally I splurged and got myself this big tea pack. "Wonderland Tea" with 12 different kinds of tea.
I’ve always wanted that too, but never have gotten it yet. I also wanna jump for the little Mickey tea strainer.

Sadly, no cake. Well, you could buy some cake if you want.

I don't remember seeing it.

I would get it, but I don't like those little strainers. They don't really make very good tea.

Plus, there's something extra amusing about riding through "It's A Small World" surrounded by the very peoples' whose national identities are being reduced to stereotypes.
Oh, and their Space Mountain is shiny and golden. Way cooler looking. And there is a giant dragon in the basement of Sleeping Beauty's castle.

And does it have the Tiki Room? It must have the Tiki Room!
