  • The south Australia fires - how horrific. I know the hell of wildfires and I really feel for them.

  • I've been fighting off the plague the last few days. But I did manage to make homemade chicken soup. A giant batch, actually, and I've now got enough in the freezer for 8 meals. :D I've recently discovered the joys of homemade chicken soup. I never liked it as a kid when my mom would make it, but she'd do it a very 1970s Betty Crocker-type way - sort of blah flavors and mushy canned vegetables. My version has garlic, ginger, green onions, a dash of soy sauce and carrots as a flavor base. Then all that gets chucked out when it's done (they've already given their all, as Alton Brown would say), and I add fresh carrots and green onions. Oh, I do keep the chicken. /chicken soup rambling

  • I swear radios should be banned in apartments. Unless you live in a detached house, DO NOT play the radio after 10 p.m. or before 8 a.m. I don't care how much of a normal volume you think it is, it's NOT. Sound carries and invades other people's lives. If you will DIE if you can't listen to music during those times, get a damn iPod.

  • Okay, so I was sort of on NyQuil when I watched this, so it's kind of fragmented in my mind.

Did Zarek plan on killing the quorum from the start, and that's why he brought them along? Or did that only happen once things started getting a bit nuts? If he did plan it from the start, why go through the motions of a "trial" for Adama? Why not just execute him straight off? To give some sort of appearance of justice to the soldiers that were following him? But wouldn't that same reason then be a problem when it came to the quorum? That whole thing was a big "wait..." for me. COULD HAVE BEEN THE NYQUIL.

Anyway, it's about time Roslin took a stand. I still say she needs to resign. Well...maybe wait a bit until they assemble a new quorum and gain some stability. But then she really needs to step down. Let her go spend her remaining days with Adama. (Preferably without showing us since I seem to react like a 9-year-old boy with an "ew! *changes channel*" whenever they go at it.)

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. Was it implied there had been some sort of trial? Or did they just execute them?

But anyway there wasn't nearly enough of Kara shooting things. You can never have enough of Kara shooting things.

  • I currently resemble a drowned rat since I had to go to the bank at lunch. At my place it's currently 48 and raining. That's...really close to snowing, right? OMG.

So Say We All! Although her faceplanting that guy into the wall while he was peeing was just SO AWESOME. I love her more than is sane. Srsly.

No, that's... no. That's when snow melts.

GOD YES about the radio in apartments. Actually, any kind of sound system with speakers and a subwoofer. The rumblings of a movie at 2 AM makes me violent.

Zarek tried to convince the Quorum to go along with the trial and letting him take power. He knew it was better to sway them to his side and keep them alive. However, when they made it clear they weren't going to play, he had them killed. He even looked a little regretful at the "necessity" of it. (Just a little.)

Kara shooting things = love.

[identity profile] elismor.livejournal.com 2009-02-09 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure you have to try mutineers in order to execute them.

I would expect courts martial for all of the soldiers who sided with Zarek and Felix, but I don't think you have to do that for the leaders of such a thing.

I seriously do change the channel whenever they're in bed or the like. It's cringe-making for me.

I don't quite remember that. Must have dozed off there. :D

I don't quite remember that. Must have dozed off there. :D

It was an amazing dialogue-less scene of her being violent and vicious, knocking the guy out (maybe killing him?) while he was peeing and not expecting it at all, taking his gun belt, and calmly walking over to hand it to Lee. Who just quirked an eyebrow, stared at her breasts, and walked after her with a smirk.

She = made of awesome.

It's just...GAH. I swear some people come into apartment living with a dorm mentality.

Oh, gotcha. I think I might have drifted off during a bit of it. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-09 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that could be. I think my biggest hangup is the thought that they went around the law. If they followed it, fine. But if it was simply Adama getting his vengeance, that puts me off.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-09 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAH!! That sounds like a great scene. :D

It's just...GAH. I swear some people come into apartment living with a dorm mentality.

Not that it's acceptable behavior in dorms, either, mind you. People just do it anyway. I suspect the guy below me has (or had; he's being better these days) more of a house-dweller mentality -- my theory is that he's recently divorced and neither thought of nor cared about the fact that there are different codes of conduct when you live that close to other people.

Oh, gotcha. I think I might have drifted off during a bit of it. :D

*pats* You should watch it again when you're feeling better!

[identity profile] joyfulfeather.livejournal.com 2009-02-09 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect Lee wouldn't have been standing there if the execution hadn't been within the law. He'd have been screaming his head off about a trial, even after something like that, if the law said that's what you do.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-09 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even remember Lee being there. Wow, I really was fuzzy. :D

THIS. The girl below me started playing her music constantly this semester--it was annoying last semester, but generally only lasted for an hour or so a day around 5 PM--and my banging on the floor, going downstairs to tell her to cut it out, etc., only had minimal effects. The second time she woke me up at 3 in the morning by turning on her stereo, I went down to the manager the next day and complained. Haven't heard a peep since. (I think she's behind on her rent or gas bill or something--around the time they start charging late fees on rent every month, I usually see a note on her door from the management. Perhaps she doesn't want to piss them off even more...)

(Preferably without showing us since I seem to react like a 9-year-old boy with an "ew! *changes channel*" whenever they go at it.)

NOOOOO! MOAR ROSLIN/ADAMA KISSAGE AND CUDDLING PLZ! *clings*

I think he didn't plan it, but knew it was a possibility and so that's why he had Colonial One dragged into one of the hangars on Galactica.

I have the same problem with my upstairs neighbour and his TV. Pretty much every night he turns it up as of 10pm, just as I'm going to bed. At first I thought he might be older (since my building has quite a few older people) and was hard of hearing, but one night during a hockey game I heard a loud cheer coming from upstairs - all guys. I'm guessing it's some idiotic male who doesn't quite get that you don't turn your damn TV volume up at late hours.

Boys = stoopid ;)

BAH. I'm pretty tolerant of noise during the day and even early evening (even though it's still rude as hell to have something super loud, no matter what time of day.) But people SLEEP because they have real lives.

*giggles at the adorable Californian and her rain woes*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
The sidewalk outside was a river for part of the day on Saturday! Eeek!

(Seriously, it was a couple of inches of rushing water out there - no way I would have left my place then. I don't have boots.)

[identity profile] tsukara.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
This is because Californians clearly do not believe in drainage.

You know, it's funny, I've lived in Oregon for all my life, and I just spent the last ten years or so without rain boots. I finally bought myself a pair of galoshes just this winter.

[identity profile] chloris67.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think he went through the motions of a trial for Adama to appease Gaeta. Gaeta is the one who pulled the mutiny together and he had the trust of the marines. One order from Gaeta and Zarek could have been the one with a bullet in him. So Zarek went along.

[identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Why does she need to resign?

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Does it actually rain in Oregon? Because in Seattle they talk a big game about all the rain, but it is really just a constant mist. I laughed and laughed when all of the traffic backed up the day they had what I would consider rain.

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Kara being a bad ass is my favorite thing on Battlestar. My second favorite thing was Baltar trying to hide his conversations with Head!Six, but now that he's Jesus or whatever, we don't get that anymore. So, mostly I am in for Badass Kara. (Although I am pleased that Roslin and Adama are finding their little moments, I also feel a bit awkward watching it.)

[identity profile] tsukara.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
O Seattle, my other Northwest love.

Yes? Here in the valley and out on the coast, at least. We do get days of just drizzly mist, yeah, but that's a mist, not a proper rain. You won't find a local who won't make that distinction.

I dunno what the deal is with rain + Seattle, but here in the valley (Willamette, that is), the ones who can't drive are usually (ironically) the Californians who've migrated here. And a sprinkling of Washington people who, idk, they just don't know how to drve below 60 mph or something.

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
The worst driving I have ever seen was in Colorado, when the worst of Texas and California driving combined. Of course, when I was last there for an extended period was right after everyone started invading Seattle from CA, so maybe that was the difference?

[identity profile] tsukara.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
You know, other than 'omg fast', I've never really been freaked out by Colorado driving. Then again, I've only visited over the years, never lived there for an extended time. Also, I don't drive much in CO.

Could do, could do.

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. I wasn't freaked. I was annoyed. I was surrounded by Texas and California tags, thus I blamed them. In all fairness, Louisiana drivers are no prize either.

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like you're having a mild case of the British-Summertime-Weather. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll clear up soon enough!

And *squish* You're still dying? Should I send grapes?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point. He had nothing if he didn't have Gaeta.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
A number of reasons, a big one being that she's dying and nothing will change that. She's not managing her illness and leadership successfully. Another reason is her recent actions after finding Earth. Could you imagine the president of the U.S. simply throwing up his hands and walking away, but still hanging on to power, after a crisis? He/she would be impeached so fast. While Roslin didn't hold a gun to anyone's head in this coup, it was created in the power vacuum she left.

Also, she and Adama have pretty much created a Totalitarian state.

[identity profile] frenchroast.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll give you something worse than the radio: Rock Band. I love Rock Band, but I do not love it when the people in the flat above me play it past 2am on weeknights. I'm cool with anything until midnight, but after that, it needs to stop.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I sort of miss Head!Six. Baltar's plain boring nowadays.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you ever have moments when you're not cold and soggy? :D

Sometimes. But then we have nothing to talk about. Conversations tend to go:

Person 1: Lovely weather we're having!
Person 2: Yes, quite!
Person 1: ...
Person 2: ...

If it's raining, people can bitch for hours

*Still prefers the rain to the lack-of-rain*

And I seem to have a lingering ear infection, which makes me dizzy and cranky. It's also hard to focus on things.

*Squish* I hate ear infections. I get lots and they never stop sucking.

Why do people do this?? Seriously, were they dropped on their head as a child? Did they inherit the oblivious gene? Or are they simply an ass?

I'll go with the last one. It's like the thought process is, "I want to listen to music at volume level eleventy-four at two in the morning. So I will." No consideration for others who have to listen to it. (And my walls are plaster, because they're 90 years old. She must have it deafening down there for me to hear it.
