(no subject)

1) When did google maps get all these street views?
2) How in the world did they get all this?
3) Very handy for seeing where something is exactly. A great use would be restaurants.

I've been looking up things. Here's something I'd go to all the time when I lived in Denver.

Free beer tour! (I love the heavy smell of hops in that town.)

Ah, my friend, you have just scratched the surface.

Google this: google maps pictures funny
Lots and lots of 'interesting' pictures have been spotted on Streetview.

[identity profile] jesidres.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
They have this crazy little truck (actually, I think they have several of them) with four fish eye camera attached to them. They've been steadily driving them around across the country and the globe. *HEEH*

YES! It's crazy good for finding out restaurant names.

(Secretly I can see the Doctor in an adventure with one of these vans)...

Ooooh! Fic!

[identity profile] papilio-luna.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Google Earth is my fic-writing BFF.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAH! I could spend hours looking at all that. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I had no idea they were doing this! How funny!

And the Doctor probably would commandeer one of these things during an emergency, and then fail to give it back because it was too much fun.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I never even thought about that!

[identity profile] the-willows.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's how!

:D I'm sort of in love with Google right at this moment.

1, and possibly 2) From what I've heard, the street view pictures were from crews literally driving around neighborhoods and photographing them. Maybe I heard that on NPR? Or my parents did, and then told me? I've also been told that the center of google earth is the town where my parents live. Something about the guys creating it being from there or going to university there. I can't say that I've checked though.

editing, since I don't have edit for my comments...

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, the thing about the center of google earth made the paper in my parent's town. That's where I heard about it.

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently there are people who learn where the van is going to be, and they go stage tableaux, like swordfighting and stuff, to be captured by the cams.

I DON'T SEE ANY TARDIS.

I sort of love Google, really. Although they are making "I couldn't be bothered to research" a harder excuse to use when I'm feeling lazy.

Write a 26-chapter alt!Ten/Rose fleeing-adversaries-all-about-the British-Isles fic and you'll think about it, believe me.

Street view is too much fun, truly. I like how you can move it around and "walk" down a street. If only that counted as exercise...

We stayed in Golden, and still I didn't get to do the free beer tour. Dangit.

[identity profile] tsukara.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
It was actually incredibly creepy when I went on to Google maps and found my house because wtfff who's taking picture of my house?

Ahaha, Golden, I remeber ye well. Everytime I drive past. Or smell hops.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
The whole thing is pretty cool, isn't it?

*SNORTS*

Awww! I'm not seeing the Doctor being a dipshit either. Really aren't any excuses nowadays, are there?

Yeah, no kidding. :D

Awww! It's a pretty decent tour too. And, of course, the free samples at the end.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
It is slightly unsettling, isn't it? :D

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
It was actually incredibly creepy when I went on to Google maps and found my house because wtfff who's taking picture of my house?

THANK YOU. Why are more people not creeped out by this? Google is providing all these things that track people and folks are OMG COOL!!!

NO. NOT COOL!

And this is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever seen: http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/03/exclusive-google-takes-stand-location-privacy-alon

Who, in there right mind, would allow people to track them?

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm kind of fascinated by it. I could tell my parents the address of where I was living when I was in Prague, and they could see my building! Bizarre, but cool.

[identity profile] nicachick007.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I can see my car parked in front of my house on that thing!!!

[identity profile] audrich.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, LOL.

I was all OMG!!! THAT'S MY CAR!!eleventy!!

And then I was.. so, it's my car. I see it most everyday.
Novelty+32seconds=worn off.
Damn.
..then..

LOOK AT MY FRIENDS HOUSES NOW!!

Lol :)

Too wild!
