I've been doing Saturday morning cleaning, but have had some Torchwood thoughts running through my head. And Doctor Who thoughts. And RTD thoughts.

If I'd have sat and thought about it (which I didn't), I probably could have guessed that things wouldn't go well for Jack and his relationships.

RTD has a very dire view of relationships that happen between immortals and mortals. There's a sort of tragic fatalism there with him. In S2 of Doctor Who (and especially episodes like "School Reunion") we saw many of the same elements of Jack and Ianto (and Jack and his daughter). Things just won't end happily in RTD's mind. Ever.

It makes much more sense now that he'd create a part-human Doctor to solve this problem with the Doctor and Rose. In RTD's mind, the original Doctor and Rose couldn't ever work. (Something I don't really agree with.) He said that he always planned on creating a part-human Doctor to go off with Rose, and now I see why. To him, all immortal/mortal relationships are doomed. And now I'm especially glad he came up with the whole Ten II thing, since he could have ended it like he ended Torchwood. Jack and Ianto don't get another universe to run off to.

And here again I get the feeling RTD doesn't like other people playing with his toys after he's gone. He put a "THE END" on Torchwood, a "THE END" on the Doctor and Rose, and it wouldn't surprise me if he put a "THE END" on Donna. Not that I think he'll kill her off, but he'll end her story.

All right. I've avoided cleaning long enough.

And I see what you mean about the mortal/immortal relatioships. Of course...ALL relationships are doomed anyway. Only in very very rare cases do two people live and die together. To deprive the Doctor of the opportunity to have that relationship is to say he's emotionally less than a human being.

At least Jack has had that opportunity.

Obviously RTD has been infected b the evil alien AngstMonster, from the planet Doomandgloom. He already had that tendecncy towards gleeful cackling bringing of pain, but it's been ramped up.

Yeah, pretty sure part of it is that he doesn't like to share his toys, but.... sheesh.

But it ISN'T the end of TW; they're already talking confidently about a S4.

I'm really surprised in how I'm the only one I've seen on my flist who sees no problem with the show carrying on. Jack will come back, Gwen will probably be running TW with Lois, possibly Martha (if Freema is available), maybe Rhys and Andy will be involved. Torchwood's been around since Queen Victoria, it gets knocked down, but gets back up.

Man, if there is a S4 and it's this depressing, I'm not sure I'll want to watch it. Unless there is more Gwen kicking ass and being awesome.

Yeah, it's definitely a running theme. I remember thinking "Ianto is sooo screwed" in episode three when he and Jack had their version of the "wither and die" conversation.

I also wonder if it is part of TPTB thinking that heroes need to be in pain to be compelling. There's probably some truth to that, but eventually I start wondering what the *point* is.

Unless Series 4 comes along because Gwen pokes the rift with a big stick and rewinds time to before the Hub went asplody, I don't think I'll be interested.

As brilliant as this series was storywise, acting and directingwise and formatwise I didn't like what they did to the characters. And it's always the characters that make me want to watch a show.

But I suspose it'll depend on how they do it.

Yeah, this was dark dark dark with an extra side of dark. I think he does need to move to LA, if only to get a little sunshine in his life.

I mentioned to

goldy_dollar that I could be interested in a Gwen-run TW in S4. I think that could be interesting.

This really felt sort of...final though. Or maybe it's just an end to any RTD involvement.

ETA: Oh, and we know that Torchwood will keep going. Those guys in Satan Pit were part of the Torchwood Archive, or something like that.

I think my radar went up already back when Jack and Ianto were joking about each other dying. Practically one of the earliest scenes, if I remember right.

I think...yeah. These days everyone thinks that heroes must be dark and tortured and edgy. Which can be fine if there are elements of that, but I think way too many PTB are getting bogged down in it. They're all going overboard.

I think RTD uses fangirls' tears to stay alive or something.
and I must admit I'm rather happy he's selfish and doesn't wanna share. I wouldn't want Moffat playing with my toys either.

Or not stay alive, probably to get high like the aliens. :D

And I'm happy about him not sharing D & R, although I'm betting the Torchwood fen would have liked some sharing.
