Since everyone's posting about the DW S5 filming shots...



First, I'm happy that the emo black we saw Matt Smith in earlier isn't Eleven's actual outfit. He looks sort of...frumpy. Heh. Well, that would actually fit the Doctor. (But the colors really do nothing for MS's hair and complexion. /shallow)

But I realized something when I looked at the pictures. I...just don't care. I'm not excited about it, nor am I cursing the heavens that River Song is back and they're filming at Bad Wolf Bay.

I said I'd give S5 a shot, but now I'm wondering why. It's not like I'd planned on boycotting the show due to The Moff. I was planning on giving it a chance, treating it like a whole new show in my mind, but...it's sort of feeling like an obligation to watch rather than anything I'm looking forward to. Meh.

I think a lot of that is that there's this whole other universe in DW now, and one that I am interested in. Fandom can go on and do battle over who exactly gets to have sex with the Doctor. I'll be happily imagining happyfun adventures of the Doctor and Rose, complete with plentiful (and hysterical) Doctor and Jackie battles.

"Oh, the other Doctor is battling Cybermen again, while women swoon? Eh. I'll be in the altverse."

ETA: I figured out what this is like for me. It's like trying to care about Stargate: Atlantis when all I've ever been into was Stargate: SG-1. Sure the Stargate was there and Sam Carter turned up and the franchise goes on, but... Eh.

Moffat is a decent writer who can create entertaining plots with funny dialogue. I don't think his Doctor Who is going to be bad or tank in the ratings or anything like that - so if I could get past some of my reservations, it would probably be fun to watch.

But I feel connected to RTD's version of the show, and that's definitely coming to an end. Maybe this makes me a bad DW fan or whatever, but all the casting/character changes on the show make it hard for me to keep caring.

Oh my word, Eleven's outfit. It's like something I would be tempted to wear semi-ironically (but only semi-) if I were a guy academic about to give a lecture instead of a girl one. I thought he would have a look drastically different from Ten's though. This way, Ten is better dressed, but they both look pretty academic/geeky. (Bow tie! Hee!)

That is one blue TARDIS, though. Like I said before, I'm going to miss the happy coral TARDIS as much as the Doctor.

It's feeling a bit like a show that should be going off the air, but yet is being hooked up to life support. At least for me. (I know I shouldn't say that about a decades-old show that is supposed to go on forever, but...)

I'm laughing at Moffat but I wrote off S5 off once I found out that Moffat was taking over.


I'm sorry but Eleven/River will never not be creepy to me and add that he'll be traveling with the other companion at the same time and it just becomes laughable and kind of laughable creepy at the same time.

Moffat is trying way too hard. Filming at Bad Wolf Bay proves that.

Yeah, I found the whole River relationship to be very icky. But I suppose that now there will be Eleven/Amy shippers and Eleven/River shippers, and ship wars between the two. And then there will be those that claim that OTP shippers are idiots and the only cool way to do fandom is to have the three of them have sex...

Just thinking about it makes me tired.

I am so excited I can't sit still! I've been bouncing off the ceiling all day long, because I have fallen hard for Matt Smith, and the nerdy science teacher look ticks all my boxes.

But, I do understand the ambivalence some fans are feeling, if certain other actors had been given the role, I'd be feeling that too, and one of them would have made me boycott the show.

I hope everyone does try to give it a chance. I think it'd be a shame to pass it up, because you may find you actually love it. Even if only as a guilty pleasure when you think Ten and Other!Ten aren't looking. :D

I'm not sure what I'll do yet. I might be looking forward to it by next year. Or I might wait until it's finished a whole series and see if people thought it was worth watching and then marathon it on DVD if it was.

Funny, because the new costume feels me with an overwhelming sense of "meh"... but the set pics have renewed my excitement for the show. Maybe because they look adorable and happy and not-angsty? Not that I think I'd ever ship them, but I'm not generally much of a shipper anyhow. D/R is my exception.

ALSO. River Song is clearly Amy Pond's mother. Pond-River... you see the connection, yes? In the grand tradition of mothers having troubled relationships with him, River likes to flirt with/harass him in revenge for taking off with her daughter. TRUFAX.

I am so meh about it all that it's very, very sad. I was okay with Eleven and his companion until I saw his costume. I just can't wrap my head around it. And now River Song is back? Why, why, why? Especially now that Alex Kingston is so much older than Matt Smith. It just makes no sense. I'd feel better about him paired up with his new companion.

My whole reaction, even to River, is a bland sort of 'Who cares' to 'River/Eleven is a tad creepy.' I mean she looks older than my mother and Smith is younger than I am.

When I found out that Moffat was taking over it was outrage. I don't like him, I like some of the dialogue of his eps, but for the most part I don't think he has the writing chops to carry a show with Who's history and or fan base.

I won't watch, simply because for me, the show was Doctor/Rose happily skipping though the universe being cute. So no Rose, no reason for me to watch. Shallow maybe, but my POV.

I'd like to muster up some enthusiasm but I don't know if I can. So I may just let it go. I can do that! Primeval got deep-sixed in short order once it axed my two favorite characters.

I'm sort of surprised she's being brought back. I thought they'd leave that all open-ended. But her character really isn't one that would be a bonus to get me to watch. She was a "meh" back in the library episodes.

Of course, I was too busy raging about the wretched time logic in those episodes to care much about the characters...

Yeah, I just was not wild about her character. SM has written amazing guest characters, but River wasn't one of them. She was very very bland, when I think the the intent was supposed to be "awesomesauce."

Oh, there's been Moffat hate floating around for a while. I think a lot of it started when he'd open his mouth during interviews and at cons. He comes off as a prick with a superiority-inferiorty complex, and doesn't seem to have a very kind view of women in general. Some PTB would be better off staying behind the camera. WAY behind the camera.

(I missed that she was one of the pictures with a lot of people until later.) I hadn't heard she was there, and so I said "SHIT" out loud.
