Okay, so on the CiN special (which was probably the first few minutes of the Christmas special?)...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s1vpaYbU4Q
My first reaction was to laugh out loud. Crazy!Doctor is CRAZY!
Second reaction was to wonder if he's going for the Douchebag of the Millennium award for continuing to fuck with history (literally) even after the end of WoM.
My third reaction was to really be amused that the non-batshit one is off with Rose where neither of them have to turn up at the Douchebag of the Millennium award ceremony. You know, to show support. :D *tries to make the wall between worlds thicker* *LOTS THICKER*
I have to admit that crazy!Doctor is making me pay attention more than I probably would have. Not saying I particularly like crazy!Doctor, though. He's interesting and all, but in an "how the mighty have fallen" kind of way. This isn't the guy who's inspired so many, including his companions. He's...basically Simm's Master.

I have a hunch we shouldn't take what we saw at face value, but it was pretty damn funny.
I doubt they'd be going back into the mists of old-school for such a plot (see: Omega taking over Five), but I suppose the Master could be mapping himself onto Ten for some reason. After all, remember he had the hand for a few years.

Really? You think it might have been a fake?

That would be interesting.

I figured the Doctor in WoM was going to be the Master but no. He's just crazy.

Jack is going to kill himself when he realizes he missed this.

And somewhere Cloen is having really confusing dreams about Queen Elizabeth I.

I still like the one where he munches on popcorn while Torchwood burns. XD

"And let me tell you, her nickname is no longer... anyway."
They actually went there. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY WENT THERE! *falls over*
Other than that... is it just me or did that whole little skit just look kind of ... cheap? Unprofessional? Something like that. I know it's been said that RTD wanted to break all his toys before leaving so the other kids couldn't play with them but... sheesh. Taking a beloved character and making him into someone the whole universe wants to unite in the effort to give one massive slap is definitely an interesting plot device. Especially for a writer who presumably still wants to have a future career.

I got that feeling, too. Like RTD was saying, "Oh, whatever, I'm out, I'm gonna screw with EVERYONE and EVERYTHING."

Plus he's an unreliable narrator like, all the time. But especially the crazy.

Then I had to watch the beginning again and cringe at the douche-ness.
Then I had to look up "Good Queen Bess" (stupid American).
Then about five minutes later I had to gasp in shock and utter horror at the "Her nickname is no longer....anyway..."
I think...I think I might have thrown up a little.
David Tennant doing naughty things? Hot. Ten doing naughty things (besides with Rose and only after years of angst over it)? Oh lord, just...I...ugh. Gag.

But mostly I'm too busy laughing in confusion. And feeling sympathetic for why Queen Elizabeth tried to kill him earlier. Totally natural reaction.

Ha, unless it’s RTD’s way to tell the fans who adore “The Moff”: see, I write the doctor as a dumbass and you all hate him, Moffat will write him the same way but you’ll worship the guy because… you are stupid like that, for not seeing that it’s the same writing and characterization. Double standard, you dumbos”.
Of course, I doubt that people at GB will see this double standard. The Moff is God, after all, there.
Thank god there’s still Ten II in the alternate universe. Apparently, he is the sane one and the “real” thing, despite not being the original.

And I'm very happy for the altverse as well.

...not that I'm overthinking this AT ALL!

It's actually difficult to see him like that. It's like one of our beloved family member who's essentially good inside but in too much pain that he's lashing out to the world, do we really blame him? I don't think RTD will go the tragic route that Torchwood: CoE went through. I think his ending will be beautiful but a bit sad as well. I just think it's necessary, storytelling-wise, that the Doctor get through the douche to give weight to the part where he realizes and accepts his impending death and his need for a companion.
I've been visiting this blog for awhile and I've read your fics as well. Good job! I'm sorry that it's only now that I commented. And by the way, thanks for talking about Leverage way, way back. I tried watching it and had enjoyed it immensely. :)

And hello! :) Isn't Leverage fun? I can't wait until it starts up again!

Another part of me wonder if it's not a plot to help the viewers to accept easily Matt Smith as the new doctor. God knows that David Tennant is the most popular doctor ever, a fantastic actor and that it's not going to be easy to replace him but this way, by writing him so crazy, it will be easier for the viewers to let him go and to welcome Smith's doctor. A low blow to Ten but his popularity could be playing against him right now and it's the way the BBC has found to salvage the franchise.
Another thing which scares me: that Ten is in fact Ten II, hence his insanity and his fear of dying. Of course, the whole end of JE would be negated and Rose would appear as an idiot for putting her hand on the Doctor's chest and not feeling his HEARTS but who knows, huh?
Maybe he's crazy because he knows that his regeneration energy has gone into Ten II and that now he can't regenerate? If he is careful, he can life for centuries, not aging, but he can't regenerate anymore? And then something will be needed to be done about Ten II, like reuniting the two of them?
I can't believe how much I hate my imagination right now, I sooo love the alternate verse, Ten II, Rose, the Tylers and all the characters I want to live in this universe, like a normal Jack, Donna, Tosh, Ianto, Owen, that if it gets destroyed, I'm not sure I'll be able to still love Doctor Who.
