Okay, so on the CiN special (which was probably the first few minutes of the Christmas special?)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s1vpaYbU4Q

My first reaction was to laugh out loud. Crazy!Doctor is CRAZY!

Second reaction was to wonder if he's going for the Douchebag of the Millennium award for continuing to fuck with history (literally) even after the end of WoM.

My third reaction was to really be amused that the non-batshit one is off with Rose where neither of them have to turn up at the Douchebag of the Millennium award ceremony. You know, to show support. :D *tries to make the wall between worlds thicker* *LOTS THICKER*

I have to admit that crazy!Doctor is making me pay attention more than I probably would have. Not saying I particularly like crazy!Doctor, though. He's interesting and all, but in an "how the mighty have fallen" kind of way. This isn't the guy who's inspired so many, including his companions. He's...basically Simm's Master.

It was the first few minutes immediately following the credits of the Christmas special. The precredits sequence was considered so massively spoilery they didn't want to use it.

I have a hunch we shouldn't take what we saw at face value, but it was pretty damn funny.

I doubt they'd be going back into the mists of old-school for such a plot (see: Omega taking over Five), but I suppose the Master could be mapping himself onto Ten for some reason. After all, remember he had the hand for a few years.

Really? You think it might have been a fake?

That would be interesting.

I figured the Doctor in WoM was going to be the Master but no. He's just crazy.

CRAZY!DOUCHE!TEN will eventually get it right, he's just taking the scenic route with a little rebound in the mix.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Crazy!Douche!Ten better stay in his own universe! :D

with a little rebound in the mix.

Jack is going to kill himself when he realizes he missed this.

Omfg I love Crazy Doctor. WHAT WILL HE DO NEXT? SCREW WITH FIXED POINTS IN TIME? SLEEP WITH THE VIRGIN QUEEN? WHO KNOWS!

And somewhere Cloen is having really confusing dreams about Queen Elizabeth I.

I still like the one where he munches on popcorn while Torchwood burns. XD

Skipping ahead and watching this even though haven't felt like watching WoM yet. Meh.

"And let me tell you, her nickname is no longer... anyway."

They actually went there. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY WENT THERE! *falls over*

Other than that... is it just me or did that whole little skit just look kind of ... cheap? Unprofessional? Something like that. I know it's been said that RTD wanted to break all his toys before leaving so the other kids couldn't play with them but... sheesh. Taking a beloved character and making him into someone the whole universe wants to unite in the effort to give one massive slap is definitely an interesting plot device. Especially for a writer who presumably still wants to have a future career.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what to think of that whole thing. I guess after WoM nothing would surprise me about the Doctor. (And yeah, it does feel a bit like RTD breaking all the toys...)

I just realized what I found so off about the whole Bess-thing, it just really looks like something Moffat would do, not RTD, only Moffat always portrayed Ten as a bit of a ladykiller-douche, with RTD he can be douche to anyone because of superiority of his mind but not in that area as this time, I always kinda thought of The Doctor as the gentleman in that case (since I don't consider Moffat's scribbles canon xD) and I don't feel pleasant after I've been thrown that belief in my face...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2009-11-21 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably worth noting that by this point Ten is a little (a lot) cra-zay.

Plus he's an unreliable narrator like, all the time. But especially the crazy.

First I had to watch the clip, which I was entirely unaware existed till now.

Then I had to watch the beginning again and cringe at the douche-ness.

Then I had to look up "Good Queen Bess" (stupid American).

Then about five minutes later I had to gasp in shock and utter horror at the "Her nickname is no longer....anyway..."

I think...I think I might have thrown up a little.

David Tennant doing naughty things? Hot. Ten doing naughty things (besides with Rose and only after years of angst over it)? Oh lord, just...I...ugh. Gag.

I feel bad for the poor little Ood and their bad dreams!

But mostly I'm too busy laughing in confusion. And feeling sympathetic for why Queen Elizabeth tried to kill him earlier. Totally natural reaction.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I was too focused on crazy!douche!Doctor to notice the Ood, really. :D And I'm sure he deserved her urge to kill.

[identity profile] slypiotrek.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I am not sure if I want to see Crazy!Doctor. It was great in Waters. But now? I want see this Doctor who I liked, no the stupid one, who thinks he is the Winner of all the Time Lord, because he survived (yeah, and who is the killer? He is the loser). I am scared, not thrilled.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm interested, but if I'm honest I'm not thrilled that this is the way Ten is going out. Maybe I'll change my mind after seeing the episode, but I really don't like him much at the moment.

He interests me in that I'm curious to see where this is going, but am kind of disappointed that this is the way he's going out. This isn't the Ten we all know and love. I want to see that guy go out, not crazy!douche!Doctor.

okaaaay...where was he crazy? he was babbling as usual, although the lei is a bit odd (or ood lol) what he was babbling about who knows...but showing the master...hrmm..makes me wonder. what was that about the nickname??

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)

Ha, unless it’s RTD’s way to tell the fans who adore “The Moff”: see, I write the doctor as a dumbass and you all hate him, Moffat will write him the same way but you’ll worship the guy because… you are stupid like that, for not seeing that it’s the same writing and characterization. Double standard, you dumbos”.

Of course, I doubt that people at GB will see this double standard. The Moff is God, after all, there.

Thank god there’s still Ten II in the alternate universe. Apparently, he is the sane one and the “real” thing, despite not being the original.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
HEH. I am kind of amused that this is how RTD writes the Doctor who is completely batshit.

And I'm very happy for the altverse as well.

[identity profile] yourebrilliant.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a bit WTF? when I saw this (thanks for the link, missed CiN), but, reading the comments, I wonder if he's trying to emotionally distance us from the doctor before he kicks it. You know, so they won't have to set up special phone lines to console people when he regenerates (*sporfle* tenth doctor regenerating>take that breakup) It's like he's picking a fight with the person he loves so it won't be as hard to say goodbye.

...not that I'm overthinking this AT ALL!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of sad if that's what they're doing. I'd like to remember Ten in a good way, not happy that he's gone.

[identity profile] needlereview.blogspot.com (from livejournal.com) 2009-11-21 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww... it's hysterical and not the Ten that we've come to know and love, but he must be in terrible, terrible pain to do the douche and crazy. The whole gamut of stuff that happened to him (Time War, Rose, Donna, the list of people he lost as enumerated by Davros, etc.) and then telepathic people telling him he's dying, that must be too much to bear and even worse, without anyone to temper him down. He didn't listen to his mother when she told him to not decide on anything big when hurting.

It's actually difficult to see him like that. It's like one of our beloved family member who's essentially good inside but in too much pain that he's lashing out to the world, do we really blame him? I don't think RTD will go the tragic route that Torchwood: CoE went through. I think his ending will be beautiful but a bit sad as well. I just think it's necessary, storytelling-wise, that the Doctor get through the douche to give weight to the part where he realizes and accepts his impending death and his need for a companion.

I've been visiting this blog for awhile and I've read your fics as well. Good job! I'm sorry that it's only now that I commented. And by the way, thanks for talking about Leverage way, way back. I tried watching it and had enjoyed it immensely. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Very good points. He probably is on a journey - and where he needs to go to get back from the bad place he's been. (Better on your own? Not really, Doctor.)

And hello! :) Isn't Leverage fun? I can't wait until it starts up again!

RTD having a go at SM and his interpretation of the Doctor in GitF and SitL/FotD is the only explanation for Ten's behavior that could possibly work for me at this point.

[identity profile] magali29.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought, too, shield wolf. That the doctor got married or had sex ONLY WHEN HE IS CRAZY, so take that, River Song, if he does indeed marry her. That means crazy doctor, ha! Not sane doctor, one that needs to die because even the universe is against him.

Another part of me wonder if it's not a plot to help the viewers to accept easily Matt Smith as the new doctor. God knows that David Tennant is the most popular doctor ever, a fantastic actor and that it's not going to be easy to replace him but this way, by writing him so crazy, it will be easier for the viewers to let him go and to welcome Smith's doctor. A low blow to Ten but his popularity could be playing against him right now and it's the way the BBC has found to salvage the franchise.

Another thing which scares me: that Ten is in fact Ten II, hence his insanity and his fear of dying. Of course, the whole end of JE would be negated and Rose would appear as an idiot for putting her hand on the Doctor's chest and not feeling his HEARTS but who knows, huh?

Maybe he's crazy because he knows that his regeneration energy has gone into Ten II and that now he can't regenerate? If he is careful, he can life for centuries, not aging, but he can't regenerate anymore? And then something will be needed to be done about Ten II, like reuniting the two of them?

I can't believe how much I hate my imagination right now, I sooo love the alternate verse, Ten II, Rose, the Tylers and all the characters I want to live in this universe, like a normal Jack, Donna, Tosh, Ianto, Owen, that if it gets destroyed, I'm not sure I'll be able to still love Doctor Who.
