So where's all the Martha/Mickey fic going? I need a place to lurk! Is there even a community for the pairing? I did a search and didn't find anything, but I guess that's to be expected when TPTB were like "Mickey/Martha? LOLYES! WHY NOT? *PASTES*"
I don't need something to read right this second, but ever since EoTII, I've been wanting some fic to fill in the
I've never really had a shallow ship before, but LOOK HOW GORGEOUS THEY ARE. THEY ARE PRETTY AND HAVE MATCHING GUNS. (This really isn't like me.)

And so far all I've seen is this: http://jinxed-wood.livejournal.com/196355.html

and so did the fact that they're totally hot, and I must fic. *cracks knuckles* First thing: I must be very, very mean to Martha.no subject

I'm actually not totally on board with the pairing because it is a) pasted on, b) totally a Pair the Spares :-P, but I like the fic above's take on it. That she really DID love Tom--but the Tom who sacrificed himself to save her, not the one who never had to--makes a lot more sense to me than "Oh, he's just her rebound guy." Martha is way too self-aware, IMO, post-"Last of the Time Lords," to get *engaged* to someone on the rebound.
Oh, just, um...don't read the comments. Much as I cringe to admit it, there are some Martha fans who never pass up an opportunity to Rose-bash, even if it's IRRELEVANT to the topic at hand.

I think I'm pretty open to any interpretation at the moment as long as it's written well. This seriously isn't like me though, because it's TOTALLY pasted on with zero backstory. It's usually not my type!
Randomly - I don't think Martha would have given S1/S2 Mickey the time of day. But S4+ Mickey...
ETA: And eh. I've seen much worse comments. But thanks for the heads up!

I'm pretty much just mentally taking the plot of any one of millions of romcoms where party A is engaged and in the process of epic journey to wedding / planning with uncooperative fiancee / dealing with psycho family / whatever and somehow realizes the person they're REALLY in love with is Party B, not cardboard fiancee. Make the stars M & M, throw in a few aliens, and there you have it.
I'd still watch it, though.

brb stalking this post for fic.

I always thought it was weird that Martha stalked the guy she happened to work with during a period of time he doesn't even remember.
I honestly never gave it a whole lot of thought. Tom seemed like a sweet guy, and I'd throw his name in when I'd fic something that had Martha in it, but it was a *shrug* when it came to the two of them.
Plus Mickey and Martha have a lot in common! They're both intelligent and stubborn and gung-ho and have military training! Sure it was a random, haphazard attempt to pair the spares, but IDC IT MAKES SENSE TO ME.
I think this is part of what's pulling at me. Early!Micky and Martha: NOT A CHANCE IN HELL. Later!Mickey and Martha: HMMMMMMMM.

Plus, despite my moment of "Poor Hot!Tom", I can actually see how they could end up together. Hell, if Martha ended up with Torchwood, dumping the original fiance for Mickey is the least of my concerns for her. :/

Poor Mickey. He deserves someone who would notice that kind of thing.

Yeah, no kidding.

insert cliche here
townuniverse, so he came and slept on her couch. Much awkwardness when they bump into each other in the bathroom in their pjs in the middle of the night. And then there was this alien device that forced everyone to only tell the truth about their feelings and...Seriously, the cliches just write themself.

Oh, and look, I can forgive all the bad guys because Ten died to save a friend! :Dno subject

*sigh* Plus there's the whole "She gets Rose's leavings AGAIN?" thing. :-\ Although if someone were to write me a story where Mickey falls head over heels for her the first time he sees her on the Dalek ship and is suddenly "Rose who?" I might feel better about it. ;-)
(And FWIW, this gives me a great opportunity to say I ADORE your icon. *g*)

I guess I very rarely ever see any of the much rumored Martha-bashing because I try not to hang out where there are any type of bashers. Actually that's why I can't find a Martha com I'm willing to stay a member of, seems like there are just a couple rabid fans who are the bashingest people I've ever seen. When I read fic with Rose or Donna, I rarely see stories and comments talking about how inferior other people are - but seems like that always present when I try to read Martha. You know of any good sources for Martha centric stories where the author relies on how awesome she is, without feeling the need to compare how pathetic others are?
Re: insert cliche here
Oh, right! There has to be an epic road trip in there somewhere. Um, the seamstress doing alterations accidentally sent her dress to Scotland and her car is broken down so Mickey drives her to get it. Only then his car is destroyed (by aliens) and there's only one room at the hotel.

Heh. I once called one of the most popular Martha writers out there on the carpet for her over the top, completely improbable characterization of Rose and I don't even really *like* Rose that much. (Although I liked her much better with Nine than Ten.) But character bashing in any form is such a turn-off for me, even when it's a character I'm not a fan of, that most of the time I won't read it no matter who it's directed towards. :-P
*sigh* I always try to write Martha as stand-on-her-own awesome when I write her (my fic), and I've bookmarked a few fics by others as well...I could try to track those down for you. But as for an actual *community* where that is the norm...*grin* I think you and I might have to create it.

I like them because I do see how they would make sense -- like Sarah Jane angsts about a lot, it's difficult to imagine anyone who would readily accept "oh yeah I totally travelled with this alien guy for a while and once I saved the world but no one remembers LOL!" or "well I lived here but then I lived in a parallel universe for a while but then I came back again", and Martha and Mickey could understand each other that way. Plus they're both bamfs who are too good to work for Torchwood and should therefore freelance. I assume they're like the universe-prime equivalent to Cloen and Rose. Defending the Earth on their own time! Rock on Mr and Dr Smith-Jones.
But I wish the Martha/Tom plotline had not existed if this is the outcome.

There was rejoicing in the land? :D
And I know some would probably cringe to see Mickey and Martha compared to the Doctor and Rose, but I think you're right. They're universe-prime's Earth-defending couple who look damn good while doing it. XD
I could see how RTD needed/wanted Martha to be engaged back in S4, just to make it clear she was over the Doctor. But if Mickey had been his intent all along, it did make things messy with Tom.
I could easily believe she'd get engaged and then later think better of it. I mean, traveling with the Doctor messes with your head. Just look at Sarah Jane, who I think most everyone can agree is a very kick-ass woman. She spent decades in a holding pattern. And it's not just women - Jack spent over a century looking for him. Even by being engaged to Tom - maybe as a rebound (like RTD said) and way to prove to herself she didn't need the Doctor - she's still comes out as more level-headed than Sarah Jane or Jack.
Hmm. I don't really mean to knock Sarah Jane and Jack, but it seems like Martha fans are feeling sensitive right now. To me RTD's ADD doesn't really make Martha out to look bad. It just needs much more explanation that we didn't get.

I need a good M/M icon, now.
