Just so you know...

My inner 13-year-old is giggling at the name "iPad."

::facepalm::

they must have put an ex MS marketing exec in charge of naming it. That's really horrible.

HA! I wonder how long it takes someone to come up with the iTampon joke?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*is amused*

I still am not quite sure why someone would want that. It looks unwieldy.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say it'll probably be on one of the comedy shows tonight. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*snickers*

I await the jokes, upon the first malfunction of one of these devices, about the problem manifesting because it's the iPad's "time of month."

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a ginormous iPhone that neither stores anything more than an iPhone does nor makes phone calls.

Yeah.

Is that really what that tablet is called? I saw someone say iPad on twitter, and I assumed they were being funny. Good lord.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Must. Not. Laugh.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently that's what it's really called. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems like it.

It just seems like something that would be really awkward to carry around. And does it have a stand or do you have to hunch over it if you lay it down?

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
oh but it has a 3G connection , wireless connection and you can buy apps for it in the iTunes store! They're also going to "kill" the Kindle market because you want to, you know, spend that much for an ereader.

And the iTunes store is so cool because no one has ever bought software before and laptops don't ship with preinstalled 3G cards. Oh and ebook readers haven't been available for almost every device/format for free.

I don't even know. At least some tech folks have stopped pretending like Apple invented the tablet with this release.

Also, Amazon is hiring PM, devs and testers for Kindle so I doubt it will remain on their readers only.

Tablets aren't new and they used to have a pretty limited market. There are uses but marketing it as an entertainment device is pretty, well, stupid. Their version appears to be a device designed to serve up content, paid content... that's not exactly a compelling reason to buy. I've already seen articles stating that the Apple tablet might just save print media. Um no.

People will buy it, though, because it's new and it's Apple and for some, that's all it takes.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a dongle joke in there, you know.

Yes, I went there.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Every 28 days the iPad gets really touchy and your wireless charges go up. When the product reaches EOL, it starts to overheat.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think all the tech blogs should offer a prize to whoever the first person was some time back who did a photoshop of the Apple tablet just being a giant iPhone.

It's about as "magical" and "revolutionary" as a bowl of Lucky Charms.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's already a trending topic on Twitter.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I thought that was Sony VAIO laptops.

(There's a persistent belief in Japan that Sony builds their laptops with a kill switch that goes off the day after your warranty expires. No, I'm not kidding.)

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they pretty much just jumped the shark.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hundreds of dollars to buy plus paying to get content through Apple World? No ta. Even if I had money to throw away, it wouldn't be on this.

[identity profile] bittybye2000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they just start throwing random words behind the "I" and when they came to 'Pad' did they say "Bingo! I think we can be made fun of with this one."

And what exactly is the point of it? It's going to start off with a price tag of $499 and it's what? It's too harsh on the eyes to be a eBook reader. It looks the the iPhone only it doesn't make phone calls. Why not buy a lap top or one of the mini notebooks for nearly half the cost?

I love my iPod and my iMac but I think Apple is stretching. Yes they usually have a superior product but this one, as far as I can tell is totally pointless.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
DON'T SAY THAT!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Right - I'm wondering why people wouldn't just buy a netbook. Design alone it just seems easier to manage physically.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAHAHAHAHA, of course I have about as much love for Sony as I have for Apple so I'm amused.

Still, it's not something that's restricted to Sony. HP is also pretty bad about this. They used to average a 2 year expectancy for their consumer grade devices.
