I'm taking this Olympics off.

Yeah, fuck you, NBC. Anything possibly live on the Opening Ceremonies is being blocked by NBC. I've tried. Instead I'm supposed to sit around for three hours like a good little mindless consumer and wait for NBC to dole it out in their own sweet time.

Forget it. I'm not watching the Olympics this time around, NBC. YOU'VE PISSED ME OFF THAT MUCH.

*FLOUNCES*

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Does only NBC show it?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. They've got exclusive rights. And not only that, they've arranged it so that US people are blocked from other sites.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I wouldn't even care if they hadn't put the West Coast in a complete blackout right now. The rest of the world: watching the Olympics. The West Coast: getting pissed off.

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
asdfasd this is supposed to be an event for the entire fucking world. one company should not have exclusive rights like this.

[identity profile] natmerc.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's just insane. Here I am in Canada, and I can watch the NBC coverage or (which is more what I'll do) the CBC coverage.

[identity profile] natmerc.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
'scuze my error -- I've been in a workaholic cave the past few months and didn't know CTV got the rights to the coverage, not CBC: Is http://www.ctvolympics.ca/ blocked?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it won't load.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Doesn't for me. :(

[identity profile] rattus-aerius.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
You're better off. Having to listen to Bob Costas makes you want to pull your hair out after awhile. ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's always that. I hate how they feel the need to talk over everything.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Works for me. May be my location. I don't know.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember but didn't they pull the same bullshit when the Olympics were in LA?

And yah, I could TiVo them but I'm just not that interested.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't remember what they did back then. I do remember my dad's company had to go on a work schedule - they did that with a lot of companies in the LA area to manage the traffic. It actually worked.

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
:( I wish you could watch it via CTV. It's not my favourite opening ceremony, but Harper hasn't been pied yet! Ooh, is that a spoiler?

I wonder, does hotspot shield work for just Hulu or network sites?

You've been talking to [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar (and everyone else) lately, haven't you?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen some Canadian politics stuff fly by. PIES! XD

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
lol.

Edited: NBC is making all sorts of fails left, right, and centre. They should be ashamed.

[identity profile] erateini.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
NBC probably stands for and forgive my french: No Brained C****S!

Don't give up on watching the Olympics because of this idiot network! :(

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
If I can find somewhere to watch stuff that doesn't give any ad revenue to NBC whatsoever, then I will.

You know, normally I don't mind in the least watching ads when companies post shows online. I think it's only fair. But the moment they block me from a live global event? PTHTHTHTHTHTHTHT!

[identity profile] erateini.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
It really does make them douchebags when clearly the only reason they are doing this is because of advertising. I can only imagine the editing that the ceremony is going to get for that purpose.

*Kicks NBC*

Do you know anyone that can tape this? I'd offer but I'm on my layover :(

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yup.

And I don't know anyone, but maybe there'll be non US clips on youtube eventually.

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
You are not the first person I've seen who is pissed enough not to watch. It makes me smad. Stupid NBC.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's RIDICULOUS.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I really can't believe they're being this asstastic about it. FAIL, NBC.

ETA: It looks like they did this during the last summer Olympics, too, because I found an article saying that NBC "might" air Michael Phelp's 8th gold medal chance live on both coasts. Might. *eyeroll* Whatever, NBC.

I could understand last time around more though. It was in China after all. BUT I'M IN THE SAME TIME ZONE.

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
BUT I'M IN THE SAME TIME ZONE

I'm only 120 miles. I feel your pain.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

[identity profile] joyfulfeather.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Write them a letter! They deserve to know your ire. 'Cause really, that's just... WTF WHY. Why do that?! How completely nonsensical.

Yeah. Write to them! Convince your friends and neighbors to write to them! Maybe next time they won't fail so much.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I actually might. I normally am not the letter-writing type, but this is just BAD.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
How unbelievably stoopid. Damn thing should be watched as it's broadcast. Especially since you're in the same time zone!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
At least let me have the option of watching a feed online! I'd watch commercials and everything!

God forbid a worldwide event be shown before prime time. Oy.

You might try here: http://www.tvunetworks.com/ or here: http://beelinetv.com/

Turkish state TV (TRT) and Russian state TV (RTR Sport) often have figure skating events live online, when the US networks won't let us watch; they're probably showing lots of the Olympics.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow! Thanks!

[identity profile] selenityshiroi.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
I know it's late, but does http://tv.eurosport.com/olympicgames/opening-ceremony_sto2218404/tvproduct.shtml work?

We have coverage by BBC and Eurosport in the UK. There isn't much of the Olymipics on BBC's scheduled TV, but it's uninterrupted on Digital Interactive, so we just push the red button for multiple streams and lopped highlights. Eurosport is okay, but you're stuck with whatever stream they pick.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The page doesn't have any links for me to click on, so I'm not sure if it's because it's obviously not live anymore, or it doesn't work for me...

[identity profile] soniced-up.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain. I live in BC but I had to work tonight and am right now watching NBC coverage. But according to my husband who watched it live NBC has edited out a large amount of content.

I'm holding out hope that somewhere a d/l of the live show will pop up somewhere.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard NBC was rather failtastic on their coverage. If the Olympics is a chicken, NBC spits out a chicken nugget.

[identity profile] goodtoast.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm now determined to figure out how to watch this online this weekend. I love the Olympics, and I'm not going to let NBC ruin it for me. There's something inherently wrong in this media blackout. If I want to not know who's won an event and watch it on NBC I can't do anything because every website is going to list in big letters what just happened!

And btw, found out this morning that in Salt Lake OL, only the Salt Lake City limits had access to the live coverage in their own city. These could be people 10 minutes outside the city, and they had to wait an hour for results. Bullshit.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole thing is SO FRUSTRATING. I don't think anyone should be given exclusive rights. Let it be a free-for-all. Multiple stations air coverage of things like the Rose Parade, so why not?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
FFFFFFFT!

[identity profile] velvet4269.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Would this or this make you feel better?

Of course, I'd feel better if they had a Rose Tyler doll or a TARDIS doll, but still ...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Ten looks...strange! But yes! They really need Rose and the TARDIS!

[identity profile] bluebell1916.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm watching the BBC live on
http://www.tvunetworks.com/watchTV/index.html#c=11204

They aren't broadcasting the Olympics yet, but I'm amazed to be watching the BBC online! Thank you for this, Selenityshiroi.

As for NBC and the Olympics, they have driven me crazy for years. The coverage is terrible to say the least. Literally, the worlds worst. I'd be willing to put up with the commercials if they would show more events, and that includes events where other countries might win the medals. Also, I wish the announcers would stop talking so much.

Also, that new Ten doll is really odd looking. Honestly, you could put me in a pinstriped suit and I'd look more like David Tennant than the doll does :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to say, I'm really not feeling like I'm missing the Olympics. *shrugs*
