Awesomesauce.

If you have Firefox, you can get rid of the Facebook/Twitter boxes when you comment on LJ.

First you need to have the Greasemonkey extension installed.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748/

Then you need to install DisConnect.

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/85105

Works great! Hopefully LJ will make this an optional feature, but until then at least I don't have to see the boxes anymore when I comment.

Ooh, sweet, thanks!

Okay, now how do I get rid of it on Chrome. *EYES LJ*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one thing that's kept me away from Chrome: the lack of addons.

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
They have some, but it's not as extensive as Firefox, that's for sure.

I go back and forth, but I find that after using Chrome a lot, I really really prefer the way Chrome does its tabs.

Sorry to comment!jack, but I have Chrome and I just installed DisConnect and it took care of those pesky boxes. :)

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, you wouldn't happen to have a link handy, would you?

[identity profile] astrum-presul.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I do! This is the link I followed, and I just hit "Install" and all seems to be good. No more "Repost To" boxes. :) I hope that helps.

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh cool, that worked beautifully. Thank you kindly. :D

[identity profile] astrum-presul.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You are most welcome. :) Glad I could help!

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Jumping in to add another thanks! :D

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, works perfectly, no GreaseMonkey required thanks to Chrome natively supporting GreaseMonkey scripts. I knew I liked Chrome for a reason. :)

[identity profile] papilio-luna.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet! This is the first time I've ever actually had motivation to install Greasemonkey (LJ-addon and Adblock have always done the heavy lifting for me).

[identity profile] papilio-luna.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Wahey, it works!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never used Greasemonkey before either. Never needed it.

[identity profile] fiona-conn.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I use Greasemonkey for a script I use on Facebook, to hide all the clutter of "such-and-such is using this/that/theother app".

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for decluttering.

[identity profile] fiona-conn.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, thank you.

(Although I should personally like it to be able to block Facebook/Twitter from my LJ at all, not just hiding the options, but nyeh, works for now. There's a reason I'm friends-only'd.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea why they thought connecting would be a good thing. Facebook I can sort of understand, but Twitter? It wouldn't even work for most comments!

[identity profile] chloris67.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the script! I have it on now and it works fine. I do hope that they disable the crossposting feature on flocked posts though! I don't mind links to my public posts -- people link to them already -- but flocked ones are private for a reason!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's very squiffy to be reposting comments in locked posts.

Thank you for this! I was kind of terrified that my LJ shenanigans might end up on Facebook or something.

I love Greasemonkey. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hope they let you automatically disable it. I checked out the news post and didn't spot a single positive comment about it.

I have IE only. :-(

Stupid LJ.

Thank you for this!! It is very much appreciated!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so nice to be rid of it!

[identity profile] lorelaisquared.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU! I use chrome but installing the disabler alone worked PERFECTLY! Now we can relax a bit and start taking bets on how long it will take LJ to get their act together and give us the option to disable.

Right now I kind of picture them all running around like this (see icon) in shock at the negative reaction to this. (Really, they really thought this was a GOOD thing?)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
With the feedback they've been getting on the post page, it probably won't be long before it's turned off. :D

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Damn that made it easy! Thank you!!!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to pass it along!
